When Mr. Huckabee says he would like to unite the nation, I fear he means he would like to unite it under a state-imposed religion. Perhaps not that we would be forced to adhere to his version of xtianity, but that law-giving and foreign policy would be dictated by xtian dogma.

People forget the GOP consists of a lot more fractions than just the religious right. Small businessmen, libertarians, etc. Do these people want a gov't driven by sectarian religious beliefs? I don't think they do.

And, that the republican candidates are wrong for attacking each other during the campaign (something that he himself has done to Romney and others). He is not implying anything of the sort. Why don't you look at what he actually said rather than looking for the implications. What he said is that the next President needs to unite the polarized country if anything is going to get done. He's right about that. It matters not that in making the point he says "Left fights Right, Liberal fights Conservative, Democrats fight Republicans." The point is the same no matter what order you place it in.

It's not meant to be rude. It's more of a wake up call that we Republicans will lose this election if you don't sadly wake up and look at the facts that our Party needs drastic changes, or we won't get elected. George Bush's approval ratings are lower than Richard Nixon's. Democratic Front Runners are raising over $25 Million, and the Republican Front Runners can barely raise $10 Million. All the writing is on the wall. We're actually trying to help save the Party.

Why does Huckabee avoid the issues? I'm a Barry Goldwater conservative and I don't like half the things Huckabee says. He seems like he's running on a Populist ticket and reminds me more of Bill Clinton than a conservative. Huckaboo is merely reiterating what Ron Paul has been saying, all the other candidates have jumped on the "lets steal Ron Paul's platform" as well. Huckabee is a better orator, but he is also a Teddy Ruxpin and has to have his batteries replaced every few years.

Ron Paul speaks with reason on this and other issues. Ron Paul is for you and me like no other. He refuses to accept the congressional pension plan because it's way too generous, and he knows that it's tax-payers that have to pay those bills. That's the think, I don't think Bush and Huckabee are anything alike. I'm not so worried about Huckabee. I feel I can trust him. He cares, that's all that matters. He totally cares. I believe he'll get done what needs to be done, and that he is the most electable, and able to beat hillary. Complete honesty. Some other candidates are nice, of course, but I just think he's the best prepared, and able for the job.

What actually happened was Huckabee was asking the guy questions about mormonism off the record, the reporter being well versed in comparative religion gave him answers.  Both were surprised to see the comment in the article. Huckabee made sure to apologize in person to Mitt at the debate this afternoon.
