visionaries.back way back in the 80`s.still today i talk to my kid about this ,about the toy and the cartoon on chanel 22 abc saturday morning.damnnnnnnnnnnnnn so much memories.the toys was so cool.men that is wonderful to posted these old cartoon.there is NO CARTOON like this today.ps;CARTOON LIKE HE-MAN,VISIONARIES,GHOSTBUSTER,OLD TRANSFORMERS.SO COOL.
I used to save my allowance to buy MASK and Visionaries toys. Its funny how it was so easy to get up early on Saturday as a kid. Now I cant think of anything but sleeping in. OH, how times change with age, its sad.
the thing with cartoons now is that to sell a cartoon you have to make money off it, i.e trading cards(pokemon), computergames (everything), adult cartoons(familt guy, american dad). but bk when this was out there was none of that, it sold and was liked because it was a good idea and a good cartoon like so many others from the 80s, im now showing my 3yr old son this, thunder cats, tranformers and all the other quality cartoons frm when i was a kid, show all your kids because they need to see them
@daledgend1981 Visionaries was created soley around a toyline like pretty much every cartoon during the 80's, the reason why it was cancelled after one season is because the toys were too expensive to make and not enough people bought them despite it being a good show. So even then profit trumps quality.
Back when magic was on it's last steps and now we have nothing but shows that rely on technology. No more strength, no more cool facial hair, the 90's really was magical.
I miss unique toonns & toys from the toons. I wish Hub, WGN Retro, & Cartoon Network would get blocks of these to air on Weekend Mornings. Imagine the ratings they could get. All the retro fans now have children in their lives. We would watch then the kids in our familywould watch. Networks would make money on shows they don't pay to produce now. Why can't they understand that? Anybody know what I mean? Thumbs this up, & email the idea to the networks repeatedly. Indifference achieves nothing.
This show's got only 13 episodes but it was a great cartoon. What if this can be updated and be turned into a kick-ass role playing game.....or maybe a movie, it's just a matter of finding the right people who could do it.
The theme song to this song got stuck in my head all this week for NO reason. I couldn't remember what show it was from, what the words were...and I havent even seen this show before, but I remembered the tune!
These shows from the 80's were so fresh! But of the recent cartoons not based on Marvel or DC characters, Ben 10 and Kim Possible are dope! Ben 10 has the vibe of the old shows and the characters clearly are fans of these same 80's shows. Kim Possible has Disney animation which is solid, but the writing is fantastic. So freakin funny. Give them a chance.
For more insight on this intro....Visionaries was created at the time when GI Joe and Transformers were the Most popular cartoons on TV and so the people behind Transformers were asked by Hasbro to come up with something different but similar to Transformers..They came up with Visionaries (notice similarities by how the people transform to animals vs robots transforming to vehicles/planes). The Visionary world came to be via Earth exper. an Electro-Magnetic shock and lost all electrical power.
Acturally, there were 13 episodes. In the United Kingdom, the entire 13 episode series was released on DVD in 2004 in Region 2 format by Metrodome Distribution.
Unfortantly. So far, there has not been a Region 1 or Region 4 release.
Same, I would get up at 5am to watch the saturday cartoons, from GI Joe, to Thundercats, to He-man, and everything else in between. If anyone remembers Bionic 6 wicked cartoon. Hell everything from the early 80's and late 70's was sweet shit.
I was almost an adult when they came out and I still loved the shows. I got the complete set on DVD. The thing about todays cartoons is that they have to rely on vulgar humour to be watchable. I bet most kids these days couldn't grasp the Visionaries concept if it didn't have a ton of swearing. I know you like Family Guy but that to me is just more of the same thing that floods the cartoon channels. Nothing is creative anymore.
Just give it time. Another twenty years down the road and even todays cartoons will look pretty tame.
I concur. I too miss those days but that's the great thing about videos and such. We can always relive those days even though the things around us have changed. My friends ask me why I have a collection of Jem cartoons. It didn't seem to matter what gender they were intended for, it was always the concept that kept me fascinated.
agree wit u Snapscape sir. todays cartoons lack 'character'. just crap. wut d hell is ben10 supposed t be? kim possible? the rest? man, i showed these 80's vids t my nephew n he likes em more than his ben10 crap now. wished i kept my m.a.s.k. figures....
i think the adult themes of 80s, early 90s, challenged that concept of just basic gags, crude humour, plot lines. The language, motives and character development was all ahead of the typical "kids cartoon". Such elements pulled me in.
@Snapscape loved it too, was about 10 when it came out. prolly one of my top 3 fave cartoons. tried watching it recently though... sucked monkey balls :-(
oh well... worth watching just for the jizz-in-my-pants intro :-)
@ch00bee It hasn't aged well for some though I still appreciate it for what it is. A modernized version is what I'd like to see or even a live action film. There's a lot of creativity behind the concept and there's some content that even children might not have understood.
Most original idea from Hasbro. Would make a better live action movie too so long as it's not directed by Bay and not written by Orci and Kurtzman. Otherwise you'd just have a full story about Cryotek trying to have sex with Galadria by trying to sell his totem on eBay.
The design of the Visionaries and Centurions were pretty damn similar if you look closely. Someone argued that these cartoons were produced just to sell action figures, which is pretty plausible, it's a time when that kind of toy was really taking off.
Whatever the case; the 80's was definitely the best time for kid's animation. Inspired by films like Star Wars and the booming anime/live-action heroes shows of the time
actually, the show was created based off a toyline by Hasbro. I assume it was made with the purpose of publicizing the toys. which is really a pity, because they had a nice alignment of characters and a very good storyline.
I picked up a DVD from my local pound shop with 2 episodes of this series on. I've now bought the whole series off Ebay so I can watch the rest of it!
i loved this about 20 year ago! can always remember thinkin one of the baddies got ripped off wen of all the things he could turn into merlin made him a beetle ha ha
This is the best cartoon in the 80s! I just love the encantation of Cindarr (The Power of Destruction): "By nature's hand, by craft, by art, What once was one now fly apart!"
yep.. this cartoon's great.. very much liked it back then.. anyone here care to help me where to find and watch this cartoon 'Online'? somehow, I quite miss this show..
It combined all the elements of great cartoons back then. Violence, brilliant animation, compelling story lines and awesome vehicles/technology. All that was lost in the PC fascist 90s, where anything other than a farting blue cat was out of the question. It's even worse now with the shitty Anime rip off garbage, like teen titans, and Anime Transformers.
I still think this show has potential. Either as a feature film or a modern cartoon or comic book. I loved the visionaries far more than transformers.
I have issue #1 of the comic in good condition. I had all of the toys but not anymore, I won't type what happened to them. The cartoon was great, I still have a few episodes on VHS tape.
This cartoon was so dope!!! *87 or 88 or maybe 89...I do not remember for sure...Christmas of one of these years..I got all of the toys. Man that show was the illest...
The cartoon came from the same animation studio that did Transformers and G.I.Joe, if it comes to that. Check out wikipedia for the specific matchups. Voice acting in the U.S.A. is a much, much smaller business than in, say, Japan, where animation is treated with the respect it deserves as an art form every bit as valid as sculpture and literature.
Not sad at all...what's sad is I loved this show but hardly remember anything about other than they turned into animals. If I remembered what you did I would be proud...Visionaries rocks!!!
a great cartoon i used to have the figures as a boy it was popular but not as popular as transformers or thundercats used to be on a saturdays after dungeons and dragons was when they used to play the differnt cartoon sieres
Holy nuts... I finally found an 80's cartoon I have never seen! I didn't think it was possible... What was this one about? Was it as popular as Transformers/He-Man/Voltron?
I dont blame you though as the show doesnt last more than 13 episodes (i think). It was a great cartoon and I had their toy with a hologram on it. I got the lion guy but sadly it was thrown away. :(
I don't know if someone has already answered you. but I want to answer your question.
"Visionaries" is set on Prysmos, a planet with three suns. One day, these suns aligne themself and they cause a planetary disaster.
Some of the survivors are given magical powers; the good one, the Spectral Knights, have the powers of the more noble animals (dolphin, lion, hawk, etc.); the others, the Darkling Lords, can turn in the most vile ones, mollusk, beetles, etc.
True that, I remember I had the lion guy and eagle (or something) guy. I used to watch the cartoon religiously. I still remember the episode where everyone had to run thru an obstical course and each one that did, would receive their respective powers. Good times.
Its been about 20 years sinc ei watched this cartoon, but i remember one of the baddies sayings to summon his power "Oh mist filled pits dark dank unclear, touch all before me with frost fingered fear!"
you are not the only one i know all the magic words still in my native language spanish and the hard thing is i found this the full cartoons DVD QUALITY i have it here too is so awesome not because of the cartoons you understand me perfectly when you watch that you just go back in time 20 years ago and see what you saw those days is like travel in time and space and thats why i collect old GOOD stuff like this

The rhymes aren't perfect, but the song's still an amazing bit of orchestration and lyrics. Thanks again for posting it!

By what creeps, what crawls, by what does not, let all that grow recede and rot!
Power of rot obscure in truth, what once was old, restore to youth! Very badass chant.

I have these on R2 DVD from the U.K. I live in Canada and they work because I reprogrammed the software in my DVD player to be region free!

This show has aged very well animation wise. Especially the intro which still looks fluent.
And is it me or did they just use all the voice actors from Transformers?
LutienentRoastabitch 3 years ago
The cartoon came from the same animation studio that did Transformers and G.I.Joe, if it comes to that. Check out wikipedia for the specific matchups. Voice acting in the U.S.A. is a much, much smaller business than in, say, Japan, where animation is treated with the respect it deserves as an art form every bit as valid as sculpture and literature.

The arrows turn, the swords rebel. May nothing pierce this mortal shell. I think I can remember most of these (sad huh?) Just ask if you want one.
chebcommand 3 years ago
Not sad at all...what's sad is I loved this show but hardly remember anything about other than they turned into animals. If I remembered what you did I would be proud...Visionaries rocks!!!

keitaro82uk 3 years ago
I still remember Witterquick's chant:
"Sheathe these feet in the driving gale, make swift these legs over land I sail!"
I tried saying that during gym class hoping it'd make me run faster.
It didn't.
Damn

Holy nuts... I finally found an 80's cartoon I have never seen! I didn't think it was possible... What was this one about? Was it as popular as Transformers/He-Man/Voltron?
Freakshow0198 4 years ago

Good times.
