  • how much did your sword cost i mean your katana?

  • subscribed..very nice

  • Do they go in a white room?.... or is that green screen stuff?

  • @Inheritance41Park Actually i don't know but I think it's a white room.

  • One Big No No was he was touching the Blade even on the side you do not Touch a live! blade! Tut Tut Tut

  • @gekiryudojo What do you do if you use a "soete technique" when the left hand is supporting the monouchi? Which classical sword style do you train in?

  • @Taisetsutoo I understand but you should have mention that you should clean a live blade afterwords I did Bujinkan for 28 years

  • @gekiryudojo The importance of cleaning the blade is explained in the DVD series. However, that still does not address your statement that you should never touch the blade. Would you care to elaborate on the techniques presented where the Japanese sword teacher touches the blade during two hand cutting, two hand blocking and particularly while performing the noto where he touches the blade on every waza? Did Hatsumi Sensei teach you these Tut-Tut, No-No's for 28 yrs. or was it someone else?

  • @Taisetsutoo weird, in WMA we grip the sword in half-swording to choke up and perform wrestling tech close in.

  • he got some of his terms wrong.......and in the JSA world, there is no such thing as a black belt.

  • @KagaKiyomitsu Which terminology was incorrect?

  • this sir would survive zombie apocalypse easy lol

  • Katanas are really awesome.Im watching this to know how my opponent will use it since I use staves instead :3.Or duel wield to swords.Idk if you can call it a katana then...

  • right now, i am learning both kendo and judo at home, i'm only practice by myself. i think it little hard for me. but it is fun. this thing is not for fighting on street or at school. it is dangerous if you do it to your friend either your family. i'm newbie ^^

  • omg thk u so much, i was thking of buying the dvd set. after watching ths, IM DEFINITELY BUYING THE SET!!!!!!1

  • Graet Video series I have the book, next i will get the videos. I gues the reason is so little viewers is the video is not label "Iaido" "Katana" etc ,but the Sensei name.

  • interesting

  • My only issue with this video is that a bokuto was not used during the presentation of the basic cutting techniques. A Katana is both a weapon of war and a Samurai's Soul. It should not be drawn without the intention to kill or protect, and only if absolutely necessary. It's also dangerous, no matter how skilled you are, to use a sharp object in a 2 person demonstration.

Do not try this at home Kids. Work with a skilled instructor only.

  • @AngelusBlaze He is using a Iaito or practice sword, this is exactly why they are built for Iaijutsu practice, they are blunt weapons. By the way, Shinken (sharp swords or live blade) are also traditionally drawn to practice Suemongiri (also called tameshigiri), so I have to respectfully disagree with your comment.

  • @AngelusBlaze i would also say that a sword is not a sword only if it is made of steel and sharp, a bokken is by definition a wooden sword.

  • Respect. Exellent video, for everybody who really want to learn about katana.

(Happy to see that ; I've seen too much clowns who talk about katana on youtube)

  • Finally a guy in hakama. I'm tired of seeing all the goons in karate gi thinking they know how the sword works.

  • Great videos!

  • I hear crows cawing at 4:10...

Thanks for the video, very helpful!

  • Starting at 7 minutes, I could never do that demonstration. It wouldn't matter how experienced the guy could be, I would flip out if someone fake slashed at me with a sword

  • Nice watch tan, bro

  • I started researching katanas for like 6 months now just for fun. :D They're so cool!! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I learned most of the names for the parts, but i don't know if I'm pronouncing them properly, so this video helped a lot!!!

  • Great basics! I remember making the mistake of gripping too close to the tsuba. :P

  • No, this is a 3 DVD series by Black Belt Magazine & Shimabukuro/Long in 2008. I heard they are releasing 3 more DVDs and a book in spring 2011.

  • is this a newer updated version of the "Panther videos"?

  • omg wat a great video series

  • Thanks!

  • i have that same sword

  • so glad i took the chance to train with him

  • He's a friendly nice old chap

looking for his DVD near my region

  • carl long is the man

  • This is really good. Now I have some new things to think about my kendo kata. Thanks for up loading this video...

  • i cannot understand why there are only 700 viewings of this clip. These basics are very efficient for understanding kendo kata and iaido as well.

  • very true

  • @38912020

Less than 2 years later, it sits at 10,090.

Good vid, very confident teacher. I don't practice JSA (WMA student here), but its still good.
