yeah there is alot of american ignorance in holywood. very little is mentioned about the british units that landed on omaha beach on d day and the resistance the british and canadians encountered
I know that the suffering of russian people was really big and that they sometimes were left with no way to escape but I really admire them because they were able to defeat a very strong and organize army, they were no crybabies as the americans, they were even able to keep standing after being shot... that is not easy and some of them did survive. HONOT TO THE FALLEN!!
OK, all this guy is doing is saying "these portrayals are unrealistic". Yet he offers no proof. French Director Jean Jacque Annaud dramatized the duel between Konig and Zaitsev, which any say did not happen as it was portrayed. However, many depictions were drawn from research done with WWII Soviet documents and Stalingrad veterans. The Red Army's discipline was brutal at the start by Stalin's directive. As far as tactics, well you can blame that on Stalin's purge of the officer Corps.
acutally deserting russians where shot belevie it or not....well i wouldn't call them deserters and "yes" charges in the movie acutally did happen because idiot soviet generals didn't understand how to fight. the nazis had one big advantage when the war began and that is hitler fought in trench warfare, he experienced first hand the waste of troops and equipment caused by trench warfare, thats why france was capture so fast, the had old generals who ONLY understood trench warfare.
@Crazyman1212 there were no soviet generals left, only improvised officers (stalin gase the commanding men of the army so that he could get full control)
Hollywood is only interested in dramatic effect not historical fact. I think your taking great offence to something they do with every historical film. For example in the film braveheart they filmed the battle of stirling bridge between the english and the scots without an actual bridge. The bridge was the main reason the scots won the battle but it wasn't hollywood enough. The idea of brave peasants fighting an armoured army and winning was more appealing. Its hollywood get over it.
Movie filled with inaccurat portrayal of many things. A lot of work were put into making the Russians look even more horrible then the germans in all ways.
@anvarvanzwol Conquest of paradise is name of song in presentations and the song on the end is Священная война in latin Svyashchennaya Voyna and in english: Sacred War
I agree with you on the american propaganda, but most of these things showed in the movie was base on real facts and sometimes even worse. btw the soviets freed the world from nazism? the nazis are the ones that halted the invasion of communists from the east.
The movie had a good story and fight scenes, but the historicl inaccuracies and offensive depictions of Soviet soldiers was terrible. What's worse, people actually take this movie and CoD too seriously. History books by Americans or political refugees from the USSR are going to be bias, as are ones written by Soviets or political refugees from America, so all it comes down to is believing whichever side you want.
Maybe not everything in this movie is a true, but some of things You try to fight with, are pretty sure and documented. Russian leaders and commanders didn't have respect to the single soldier life. There are many of German memories, of Russians attacking with a mass of soldiers on well prepared defences, gaining huge losses. Sometimes even without proper equipement like it's shown in "Enemy..." And NKVD executed many soldiers accused of retreat or other "crime" (Only in Stalingrad about 20.000)
The American capitalists would have been much happier had the first workers state on earth been vanquished. After all, they invested so heavily in the German Reich at that time and the very idea of communism is a threat to capital.
'The longest day' is one of the most famous movies of all time and it shows the D-Day landings from both sides. Successful Australian movies about vietnam have been made (The Odd Angry Shot).
Shitty and hollywood as the movie is, People should be thankful for movies like enemy at the gates, because the Russian film industry still makes ridiculous propaganda movies that dont show the brutality of the Soviet system . You dont want Hollywood? 'Come and See', 'Stalingrad', 'Cross of Iron', Downfall
