Derek & the Dominos with Duane Allman played the Syracuse NY War Memorial on Dec 4 1970. The opening acts were Toe Fat (?) and Elton John, who was completely unknown at the time. As a thirteen year old, my memories are kind of hazy - but I do remember that Elton absolutely killed that night, and there was an extended delay after his set to let the room cool down. By the time D & T D came out is was almost 11PM on a school night, and half the audience had left. But it was an unbelievable show.
also a shame Eric won't/hasn't played his slide version and let Trucks do it all -- a great player but this is the only track I've ever heard Eric really soar on a sort of rhythm-slide. It's huge. Duane's solo is huge too of course...
If you read Bobby Whitlock's autobiography you'll find that Duane did a handful of live performances w/the Dominos. Doesn't sound like more than 1 guitar on this performance though.
Features Eric Clapton on Slide guitar and Duane Allman on lead guitar, I can tell by the different tones. Eric as a more fuzzy "attack" tone while Duane's is more "rounded" or fatter tone. Also featured Eric Clapton and Bobby Whitlock on lead vocals.
@CacheSeaker Just Eric on this one. Duane didn't tour with them, although he did join them for a show in Tampa. I have uploaded a couple of tracks from that show - enjoy!
my all time favourite band and so short lived as the best ones sometimes were. this is a gem, thanks so much. im always looking out for new Dominos stuff.
@email4barrytheb Yep, although Duane was never going to be more than a guest - EC wanted him in (along with Neil Schon, although Santana didn't like it!) but Duane already had a band with another 'brother'.

Shows this was a great band, even without Duane. Pity the drugs & mental illness finished them off so quickly.
