  • place and has no balance.

in order to be a good fighter you need to know both stand up and ground fighting. that is why after 4 years of hard core stand up training i went to the ground...

    -blessings

  • bjj vs. kungfu

and you veiwers will see why kung fu is not the best fighting style. The ground is where fights end up. and its tough to get up out of a guard. I do believe that a combination of ground and stand up is the best. Praying mantis is great - i suppose. But i don't know what you will use it with. As you can see here the guy that the 'sensei' is performing these moves on is not trying to escape or anything. if this was a fight he is as useless as a foam person. He moves all over the

First of all, this was a training seminar nitwit, not a fight club. Secondly, most of these concepts at the time had not been seen or taught to any of us atending, so your observation that Mr. Hu's demo partner isn't fighting back is irrelevant. Thirdly, As an attendee of this particular seminar, as well as a third-generation student of Master Hu's, I can tell you that at 200+ plus pounds, this man can toss you around like a rag doll whether you "let" him or not.

  • attempted the arm bar. The arm bar did not work as planned and he tried to stand up. I stayed on the ground for I am comfortable on the ground. He doesn't know ground fighting... kung fu isn't a good teacher of it. He tried to mount me but was surprised when I had him in my guard. from hear i was able to preform the triangle choke. he broke free but i some how got on his back where i did the rear naked choke. the fight was over....

i guess what i am trying to say is type in on youtube...

  • @omgthisisour1year

Fourthly, I agree that the vast majority of chinese fighting arts do have a ground game. This is because for the most part that in feudal China, fighting and rolling around on the ground was seen as distatsteful. However, your assertion that the "ground iis where all fights end up" is only partially correct. I mean, are you seriously going to try to submit someone on the street? What if you're opponent foils you're attempt at shooting for a double-leg takedown

  • @BrianBattaglino In real life situations often you have to deal with few opponents at the same time. In this case ground fighting will decrease you your chances for winning to zero. That's why most of Chinese styles don't pay too much attention to ground fighting.

  • Actually there is ground fighting and grappling, BUT these techniques which look similar to Jujitsu because it was it's orgin are only used to get back off the ground. Most grappling in real life fighting styles without a mat do not focus too much on ground because whoever got the takedown would win. If you pick someone up using Shuai Jiao (Chinese grappling) and slam them on the sidewalk... The fight is over, there's not really any ground fighting, the slam will win the fight lol

  • Im not hear to talk shit about Praying Mantis. My brother takes it and he has been taking it for quiet some time. I'm a fighter as well. I took Full contact Japanese Karate and I take BJJ. my brother and I got into a pretty heavy sparing mach and im not trying to act like the cocky little brother but i beat him. He gave me a kick and I blocked it and pushed his leg to the side so he was off balance. I shot in on him - took him to the ground - and mounted him. I preformed chokes on him.... and

  • @omgthisisour1year

Further, you can't assume that just because someone has had kung fu training that they haven't cross-trained in other styles, including BJJ, as would seem appropriate given its popularity.

As for Praying Mantis Boxing, it might seem quaint and esoteric to you, my friend, but I can assure you that played with skill, it can be formidable and deadly.

The point is, a martial artist should be well-rounded; but to assume that all fights end up in a choke is just childish.

  • Jake! It's good to see you getting thrown around! This is Nick from your Albuquerque days - now living in British Columbia, CA. If you're still in Seattle, maybe I'll drop in sometime! Keep up the good vids!

  • Its always the person who talk the most crap that have nothing to show themselves.Post something of your own (something thats you)

  • Mantis will fuck you up!!!!!!

  • Sloppy crappy shit!

  • That little man would wax you. You're just another internet warrior claiming "I would do this,I could do that, blah, blah".Its always would and could. Why don't you post your "true arts" video.

  • i quite like this, it seems alot less formalised and restrictive and the techniques seem to hold some water i would train with him to improve some aspects of my game, and mix it in with my boxing and wrestling etc

the man could obviously not take down a pro fighter but it could compliment my training quite well i thik

    good vid (y)

  • I went to this man's seminar. Yes he can do this in real life. Yes, it works even if you resist. Yes, I tried to resist. No, resisting did not work. Yes, he is clearly he is teaching a seminar and not fighting for his life. Yes, that should be obvious even to a fighting noob. Yes, he would win the fight. No, I don't expect most mma people to believe that.

  • yes but would he win a fight against an mma guy ?

    probably not

  • In the ring with all the rules or on the street in a real fight? I'm not sure why people think they are the same. MMA is great, but its a sport. Kung fu was used for over 2000 years to fight wars. If you lost, you were dead. There was no ref to stop the fight just b/c you got kicked someplace you didn't like. At the end of 3 minutes, you had hundreds more people to fight, so you better not be tired. In short, quit talking about mma likes its real fighting. They're atheletes. The end.

  • its still more real than what this guuy does

wars were not fought with kung fu they were fought with infantry spears cavalry and generals etc

  • I suppose the only spear technique was to stab and then stand there? These are techniques. Sparring is different, and street fighting is different still. Having more than just a left jab to follow up a right hook is what traditional martial arts is about. No technique will work in every situation, but without technique you're just swinging blindly. Sadly, most martial arts schools rarely focus on physical conditioning and fighting and WHEN to use different techniques.

  • It depends on which wars you were fighting. If you were fighting them in China then your spear techniques WERE kung fu. Dork.

  • yup i took some privates with him, mantis is very viscious, lots of eye jabs, strikes to the throat and nuts plus the throws of Shuai Jiao, learn this plus some ground techniques and you can defend yourself

  • Liuhe does use the hook, just not as much as other systems of mantis

Hu Xi Lin is a student of Pu En Fu, not li Ba Ru.

If you doubt his abilities, we would be happy to show you in person. The reason the "second guy is not resisting" is because it was a seminar, not a street fight.

  • Does 6 Harmonies Mantis use the famous mantis hook?

  • can anyone explain the third cut? i don't see what's going on w/ that wrist lock, it looks like he's locking both wrists of the other guy, 1 w/ each hand, but i could be wrong.

  • LOL his Chi is evident...

  • If this is just a Chin na demo. i would like to see more 6 harmonies striking.

  • Wow, ive never seen Six Harmonies Praying Mantis, not bad video.

  • this is retarded, that small dude wouldn't be able to do that in real life. that 2nd guy didn't even do anything, he let him beat him up.

  • F.Y.I: this is a demonstration held in New Mexico. What persented here is techinques and applications of praying mantis boxing and Chin Na. If this is a real life fighting, the fight will be over in seconds.

  • That's Hu Xi Lin, he's skills with chinna and shuai jiao are very real. He's a student of Ma Han Qing in Six Harmony Mantis, and a student of Pu En Fu in shuai jiao.

  • Comment removed

  • He is 8th generation under Wang Lang, and the student of Master Ma Han Qing and Pu En Fu

  • why don't you go show him he couldn't do it in real life? He probably wouldn't even bother with you until you pushed too far-and you'd never see it coming.

(You can always tell who has never trained in a martial art on these boards...)

  • Comment removed

  • For your information, Master Hu has trained with Pu En Fu and that's the truth. Master Hu is very skillful and he doesn't need to use his teachers' legacies to promote his own image. I hope I can clarify this to you。Only a person with good virtue would understand to respect the masters of older generation, and you certainly do not understand this.

  • thats very impressive
