  • GREAT VIDEO :)

  • Its almost the same

  • would love to stay there and see what its like

  • Very interesting! I always knew the film was done on a set but I always thought the design was just thought up from scratch and closely based on the styles of the early 80s. It's kind of creepy to see that they are based on real interiors. I also must say the original Gold Room is much more interesting than the one in the film. Comparing everything to the book, the exterior seems to fit the veg description in the novel but the interior in the film seems a little to modern. :)

  • messed up video! scary as hell

  • Jesus, they practically REBUILT the damn Ahwahnee in England. I'm amazed the Timberline gets all the recognition when the Overlook is practically a clone of the other one!

I seriously hope they never remodel...they probably get SO much attendance because of the decor.

  • Stayed at the Timberline a couple years ago. Very cool!

  • I'M JOHN BACHELOR, GOOD NIGHT

  • Stupid me. I missed my chance to visit the Alwahnee when I was at Yosemite. It's only now that I'm back home that I've found out it was the inspiration for the Overlook.

  • @robagg88 off the topic what's the connection between Kubrick using his actors to chew gum ? Dr strangelove , clockwork orange , full metal jacket have you spot that? Is there a meaning or just concidence?

  • i wonder if john bachelor is a fan of this movie or just the song. It's his theme radio song.

  • thanks for the upload AGAIN.. I'm a big BIG fan of yours and turned a lot of people on to you.. Can't wait to see your movie. The parts I've seen were done really well.

  • the music makes this creepier.

  • Thumbs up if it takes you less than 15 seconds to read two paragraphs

  • so cool of you to share these excellent pictures! thanks!

  • I noticed the ceilings were much taller in the movie.

The elevator doors @ 2:11 are kind of creepy too.

  • I would never be able to stay in those hotels. It would be WAYY too surreal. And... kinda creepy.

  • It would be so cool to stay there. I'd wake up really early so that I could walk around the hotel while it's almost completely empty.

Also, are you planning on doing a "There will be blood" analysis? What have you planned for your next analysis?

  • @milesmungo I'll have a new video about The Shining posted this coming week. Dr Strangelove analysis is well under way + new trailer for my feature and a load of other stuff. I've also just posted last week my new DVD set on ebay, which has a one hour video about Scorsese's Taxi Driver.

  • @robag88 AWESOME! I can't wait! It's like CHRISTMAS!

  • Don't tell me the elite don't dress up in bear costumes, drink Jack Daniels spiked with DMT, and chase children around with axes up there in the off-season- just kidding, but only slightly.

  • Great music, amazing pictures!

  • OMG I love that music

  • Wow! I'd love to stay at Ahwahnee for a few months. I'd bring a typewriter and a burgundy jacket.

  • @Fistwagon Yeah, write a story about the Ahwahnee turning into the Overlook from the film.

  • @robag88 I dont know, that sounds like all work and no play. I'd just write The Chiming - The complete history of wind chymes. xP

  • I was expecting to see blood pouring from the elevator :)

  • That's amazing, I read the description but I can see why so many ask if these are the sets. Even the lighting of the actual hotel interiors looks like the lighting of the sets based on them which only goes to show how impeccable the production design was.

  • Wow, they really captured the look and feel of the place!

  • @MeebleMeeble

They captured and re-modeled that capture of look and feel even better, removing all those little things that added fullness and warmth...

  • oh, when I only remember how many nights I spent reading your Shining analysis...since then I wear glasses.... anyway it was lovely, so thank you once again

  • I recently saw Eyes Wide Shut. Was Kubrick demonically possessed? That was the creepiest music chant at the masked ball.

Kubrick was really doing things no other film maker was doing. The multi-dimensional nature of his films, all the hidden meanings and clues.

A bit twisted, too. The opening shot was Tom Cruise' then wife naked for no reason. The movie was already had plenty of nudity.

    Disturbing.

  • @highwind8124

Respectfully, If a person finds nudity disturbing, that person probably suffers from demonic possession.

  • @highwind8124 The music from the masked ball is a Romanian (I think Romanian) chant played backwards. If you do an internet search, there's videos for it (both forwards and backwards). The score is by Jocelyn Pook and there's YouTube clips of his work if you're interested.

  • Stanley Kubrick originally wanted to use the Skytop Lodge in Pennsylvania as the Overlook, but was turned down by the resort. It’s funny because I live thirty minutes from Skytop and when I went there a few weeks ago, I couldn’t help but think of “The Shining” and how similar its appearance was to the Overlook. I was amazed when I found out they turned down Kubrick. Hadn’t anyone there seen “2001” or “Dr. Strangelove”?

  • Have just altered the video title to make the content more clear. These are NOT pictures of the sets used in The Shining. They are pictures of the hotel that inspired some of the set designs we see in The Shining - hence they are slightly different in design :)

  • Do a Shutter island review!!

  • so..this is the real hotel? or setup scenario?

  • @memokk See video description :)

  • I'd recommend watching THE SHINING (filming video location) video here on Youtube. It's actually displayed to the right of this video.

  • It must be spockey, if your the only person all alone, I AM SURE THE MIND WELL PLAY TRICKS.

  • man i was thinking just the same and picturing myself in the situation and im sure i wouldnt be the same person when i leave.

By the way, i strongly recommend to watch the making of the shining here in youtube, just search for "the shining making of", a great document.

    Thanks Rob.

  • nice hotel

  • Wow. Sorry, but kept wondering if there's been a mix-up, and these pics are actually from the movie set!

  • @Andybaby see video description :)
