in australia low low is the 7th biggest selling ablum of all time. kiss thebride was a huge hit in oz and new zealand. it's not all about america you know.
it sounded good - but i think he is too a bit too secure when it comes to songs that demand his voice to sound like that. After all, I am sure the memory of how the voice sounded in the 1986 tour still haunts him today.
I don't believe there are any Eltonyoutube videos of him doing falsettos since his surgery in 1987.
I believe he has no falsetto ability anyway these days. Over the last few years his voice has sounded increasingly awful. I think he has a comfortable range of about 6 notes now.
it werent as strong as before maybe thats why he stopped using. have a look at his 1992 peformance of i dont wanna go on with you like that he stil used a bit of his falsetto then
As you may know, his tour was kind of like a revisit to his hits, some obscure stuff (Danny Bailey, Too Low For Zero, Empty Garden, Kiss The Bride, Lucy..), and the new material. During the first part of the show, it consisted mainly the songs he played a few years prior with the symphony in Australia. The middle part was the hits, and towards the end were the new songs.
I don't have a direct answer to you on why he did it. This song was played through the European Tour for RSB and carried on to the Sleeping w/ the Past tour later that year.
He played numberous tracks from the Too Low For Zero album (I Guess, I'm Still, Too Low, Kiss). Too Low probably meant a lot to him at the time due the the rentboys controversy. Its also interesting to note that all shows for the RSB tour ended with I'm Still Standing (with exception to the last few shows of this tour)
Indeed. I have two boots from this tour, the 1988 Poplar Creek show and the 1989 Philadelphia Spectrum show, and this tour was definitely one of his more unique set of shows. The 1989 section for "Sleeping With The Past" got even stranger, as Elton dragged out "Island Girl," "Harmony," "Levon," and, briefly, "Come Down In Time," and he had "Rocket Man" as the closer. Really intriguing time to see Elton live.
there's no way i could get a copy of it is there?! i've had the 'best of Elton' DVD for years and the version of philadelphia freedom on there is from this concert and i've always wanted to see the full thing!! totally amazing!! what a legend!!
well, thats a fashion statement! GO ELTON!!

jaggass 2 years ago
He already came out (this was 1989). I think it was 1988 when he came out.

jaggass 2 years ago

Falsetto gone on the choruses. This is after the surgery that altered his voice in 1987.

he actually did sing the falsettos on this song with in the very early 1989 shows - he obviously stopped right around this time
thelurker25 2 years ago
Wow - thought he stopped after the 87 surgery. Did it still sound good? Are there any videos showing this on here?

not true have a look at the video i dont wanna go on you with you like that tokyo dome he uses his falsetto at 4:05
jaggass 2 years ago
Oh yes!
I'm really suprised at that. I thought the 1987 surgery killed off his falsetto. Why did he stop?

why is he singing this a year after when he came out gay in 1988? its a serious question

the 1988-1989 tour was a very odd one.

and thats what they said about "Your Song" 40 years ago... but the fans and critics proved otherwise.

Yeah, just sit back and listen to the magic of Elton's musical poetry.

That is the most bizarre thing I've heard.
How can I get hold of a copy of the 1989 bootleg? Or can you post it on here?
eltonator 3 years ago
Sad to watch this since he got divorced a year ago before this concert. Great performance though.

I'm amazed how good this concert sounds, considering that within a year he was pretty close to dead with the drug abuse.
