it works really well to use a food processor to grate the potatoes. We also use the spin cycle on the washer to get out the liquid, it works awesome! We just put the potatoes into pillow cases and knot them tight then throw them in the washer.
@teflondon91 - there's really no way around it. You need to grate the potatoes by hand. If you are unable to do this, get a friend to do it for you. If you use a food processor, it comes out too mushy and dehydrated potatoes will give you a terrible result, which will not be anything near a real rappie pie. My folks used to make rappie pie when I was young and they used chicken rather than pork. You don't need to use any pork whatsoever. Tastes delicious, but is pretty time consuming.
I use a juicer (40.00). Just have to peel potatoes, and cut into pieces to drop into juicer. Juice is separated from the potatoes...no straining juice required!!! Potatoes are ready to make pie.... Makes the perfect pie!
I love rappie! Our family isn't from the area, but we've been spent the last twenty summers in Clare. Rappie is the first thing I eat when we arrive there. We usually don't have time to unpack the car first, so we just drive from Digby straight to our favorite rapure place. Thanks for the video!
yeah it makes it taste better the way my grandmere dugas makes it its just deliecious! i cannot make rapure unfortchulnatly im a very bad example for if someone wants to learn about acadians!
