Me? I love the Droid! It is by far the best smartphone available at this time, and the best Android phone, no questions asked.. although the Nexus One might be better, it's not available yet.
So.. I'm not hating on the Droid, and I am not a dick, although I have one.
@Raamz124 All of the applications I had on the Droid at the time of the video were free. There is a free application for just about everything, and I have still yet to pay for an application. I go through phones relatively quickly, so I rarely pay for applications, but I have found many useful free apps in the Android Market.
You don't need any software. I believe this is a good thing, since iTunes is so bloated and unstable that it's rare that I can load up my iPhone up with music or update the firmware without it crashing a couple times, and this is after installing on a newly formatted machine with a brand new copy of Windows 7. You copy music and stuff to the Droid with drag and drop, so it works on any and all computers and is generally faster than iTunes.
If you are on wifi, you can be on a call and using data at the same time, but it cannot do both over the 3G connection. You can still use apps while in a call. The limitation is through CDMA, not the phone, but considering AT&T (where you can make a call and use data at the same time) constantly drops calls, I'd rather have my calls go through than be able to use data and be on a call while not on wifi.
I don't like touch screen keyboards for good reason, the iPhones' touch screen keyboard makes typing harder than it would be with a physical keyboard. Typing while driving on a touch screen keyboard is incredibly dangerous, as is doing it while doing anything else, while using a normal keyboard it is possible to write this reply without even looking at the keyboard. There is no question that physical keyboards will be around forever in my mind.
Well thats subjective because I can send a message using the phone pretty fast! and due it being software Im not limited when it comes to updates in features.
I had a treo but when a new function comes out and there is no button to support it its a drag where as with software you are able to have what ever you can dream of!
But I also have a touch screen laptop as wel and I am looking into getting a surface!
using the " while driving excuse its mute because you should not be doing anything while driving except driving!
use the voice activated options to make calls and such also the phone should be hooked up to the cars speaker system so you dont hold it in your hand up to your head or use a ear piece! I just dont like the whole buttons and such its so old school! if it works for ya thats fine as for me I like forward thinking and looking into whats possible not only what works now!
I agree, and I do not text while driving, and tell everyone I know not to as well, but the argument is that you do not need to be looking at the screen to text with a physical keyboard, compared to a touch screen keyboard, where you must look at the screen constantly.
well to be honest physical keyboards will be around only due to cost of them but not because of the enovation. I feel that they will not be after 20 years from now they will not but then we may not be here either lol
Yes I hate mobile based sites using the WAP browswer that lacks true website feel and intergation.
They are so basic its not fun to use! every phone has failed in this area the iphone wins hands down the only thing the iphone has to do is get over it and come to an agreement they can live with with using Adobe
( the player and all not just the player only ) thats the only thing thats missing is the ability to download and see flash based sites and playback flash based movies!
Don't get me wrong, the Android browser shows full websites just like the iPhone, in fact it does a better job, since it starts zoomed out, and allows you to double tap to zoom in on what you want. I far prefer the Droid's browser to the iPhone. The Droid's higher resolution screen makes surfing the web much easier and clearer than the pixelated iPhone.
In my first video, I compare the Droid to my iPhone 3G. After using the Droid, you notice that the iPhone's screen is not very high resolution, and looks comparably awful. Also, Nokia had full web browsers many years before Apple ever even thought of releasing a phone.
all the iphone has the same low resolution my friend since the first one to the last one... and the reason you dont see your iphone pixelated is cus you never use a droid... i have them both 3gs and droid and trust me iphone is pixelated compare to droid.... iphone is like mmm analog and droid its just like high def haha
When using it for navigation, I believe it only shows intersections, however just using the maps application you can use it anywhere street view is available, and of course you can use the compass and accelerometer to make it a virtual reality, which is pretty nifty.
I only have an iPhone 3G at my disposal (I dumped AT&T a month ago to try out the Hero for Sprint), but I can try to do a comparison video of those two. It might take me a while to get it up though, I've been completely swamped with work for my senior thesis.. college sucks! Just fyi, the browser on the Droid is nicer in my opinion, although it's slightly slower to load pages than the one on the iPhone. Scrolling around on the Droid seems to be smoother, and the higher resolution shows more.
It has a GPS antenna and it uses cell phone triangulation, so it's the best of both worlds, it starts up navigation fast, and is accurate once it gets a GPS lock on.
It also has an accelerometer, though I'm not sure if they use it for navigation.
Thanks for the quick response. Have you played with the interface to load data like music. I perdominantly use iTunes for my music for my iPod. I am wondering just how hard it is going to be to add my music. Also are the 32gb microsd cards that work in the phone?
There really isn't any interface, you just use drag and drop as if it was a thumbdrive or external hard drive. I prefer this to iTunes since it is MUCH faster, and I can easily just copy over what I want when I want, rather than trying to play with sync settings and waiting hours each time there is new firmware.
In conclusion, it's easy to add music. It does support 32 GB cards, but the 16 GB that is included is quite generous.
browser is a biggie for me

What weather widget are you using?
lothario19 1 year ago
@lothario19 I was using a generic Weather widget, however as the release of Android 2.1, a weather widget is included that is far superior.
Kev50027 1 year ago
You can double tap again to zoom back out in the browser. Just lettin' you know.
SiLenT366 1 year ago
@SiLenT366 As of now, you can use mutitouch to zoom, as it has Android 2.1
