@300cygnus I wouldn't want to go to the moon with you, not that this song is actually about how you'd want to go to the moon, but hey, what can you expect from someone so stupid.
err this ruins the original for me. I mean its a nice song but aside from the lyrics its not really a cover. He should just write his own lyrics and call this his own song! Am I right?? YUP!
@cloudig A cover was actually originally that artist's take on the song, so no, you're not right. Why a cover as good as this would ruin the original for you is beyond me.
Energy sources without the need for fuel or energy input exist ,But the big oil corporations don't want that technology revealed,Get a motor that works with the power of magnets only at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Let the revolution begin!
ever since i found sun kil moon...whenever im feeling down and all my regrets and loneliness pile up i just listen to there music and im instantly at peace and feel safe
i think this song applies to humans as a whole in the sense that all the things that we are striving towards, be it scientific progress or buying a fancy car, are ultimately pointless and not fulfilling without the fundamentals of the human experience, which involves other humans. she's in her rocket ship all alone going crazy, even though she is supposed to enjoy this free trip to the moon she won herself. i think the message is that life can be very lonely if you don't know how to live it.
@erninioX : I think the original lyrics are: "I'm shot to the moon, I bought a paperback and wanna go real soon"/"I'm shot to the moon, been there a half an hour and want to come home soon"
@erninioX No, because even though those lyrics have been repeated several times, the entire song is about space travel, and how it's lonely and boring.
its close but I like this version better, I feel like it has more gravitas. but its hard to say, the mm version is pretty freakin good too. sun kil moon has some talent.
If you don't like Sun Kil Moon, don't listen to them. This is actually the first time
i have ever heard them, and this version is ok but I'm not going to act like an inbred bigot and say something along the lines of, "Holy fuck I hate this band more than anything in life, They're fucking ruining Modest Mouse songs." By the way I am a Modest Mouse listener, just don't disrespect other music because it is not good on your opinion, just listen to music and chill.
this is one of my most favorite modest mouse songs from 'this is a long drive home for someone with nothing to think about' and i love sun kil moons music as well. i have to say this is excellent.
I love every single one of the MM covers on this album, but this one is my favorite. I read a paperback and I wanna come home soon. Soon, soon, soon. Damn.
Wow. I'm so glad this cover version exists, because without it I never would have realized how devastating Isaac Brock's lyrics for the song are. I had always thought of Modest Mouse's original version of the song as just a quirky little piece to close an album with, and the way he rushes the first three stanzas makes it hard to absorb the lyrics. This cover really opened up the meaning of the song to me.
Also, kudos for using a video that adds a lot to the presentation.
Yeah i feel the same way only i have a hard time understanding what he is saying in this version because of all his damn mumbling,as with all his songs.
For all intense and purposes this song is good both technicaly and lyricaly. But that doesnt exsplain how im just inexplicably addicted to this song. I love it, i dont know why in particular but it makes me happy or happier, every time i hear it. This is my favourite song ever i think.

Yes you are, you can not handle the fact that Isaac has matured as a musician and has acquired new fans. Their new music may not be as "good" as a Long Drive and The Moon and Antartica, (my least favorite album). Their new music has a deep meaning in every song if you look for it, and Sun Kil Moon may be soothing and relaxing, but is very generic. They have no originality unlike MM.
Why don't you stop being an elitist asshole. Are you really so arrogant that you think any one who has likes different music than you are "stupid idots with no musical taste"
Modest Mouse has strong melodies, deep lyrics and raw, powerful emotion.
Sun Kil Moon has tender vocals, deep soulful melody and a mellow mood.
Both are good in their own respects. The real stupid idiots of Youtube are the one's who believe there is such thing as "better" or "best" when it comes to art and music.
@bigmac364 Damn right man!!! THats all people on youtube casre about is better music. All the rap that came made so many people switch to it. Then they forgot about rock like sun kil moon and then they start blasting music where people beat-box and sing when in a rock band you sing, guitar, base guitar, and drums. More musical talent in this then some really ghetto crappy lyrics from rap. :)
@bigmac364 100% completely true. comparing modest mouse with sun kil moon is like comparing a dog and a cat. u cant say that one is better because there both unique in there own way
terrorkitten, I think I've come to the conclusion that you're pretty much the only one who should be making youtube videos to accompany preexisting tunes. Your videos are beautiful and utterly unobtrusive. I'm still in awe of your brilliant take on Kentucky Avenue.
I like both versions of "Space Travel," but for different reasons.
The way the original's written, it's manically fast, then becomes slower. Isaac shouts, the guitars alternate between melodic and quick chords. It's like having a mood split.
For Mark Kozelek's version, it's got a waltzy beat throughout with jangly guitars. This cover's dreamy and (makes me feel) lonely.
((No one's mentioned it, but I like the clips from 'Metropolis'. Very much.))
I love the original, but this is really good too. It's nice to see someone brave enough to take songs that seem almost uncoverable and reinvent them. It's not just rehashed; it's given it's own flavor. Very nice!
This song is amazing. I love Modest Mouse but I'm not an elitist shitbag. I think the original version of this song is crap. Props to Kozelek for arranging this song in a manner that you don't need to be using crystal meth to enjoy.
You obviously don't know the point behind Modest Mouse then, well, the point behind their music years ago. The point was to be against the mainstream, a sound that not many had to them at the time, you also need to listen to the lyrics, it describes going insane or crazy, like the melody of the song... To link musical sounds to the meanings of the lyrics is a very nice thing... To think that it is only good when influenced by crystal meth just shows that you can't appreciate music for what it is
you see, I put these songs up because I like them and for other people who like them. I have listened to Modest Mouse but don't like them - I don't belly ache on their songs about it, I just don't listen to them!
Thanks for trying Sun Kil Moon, I respect your opinion as a fellow music listener but I guess you have to get over you'll never like all music. That's why it's so damn amazing!
It's funny - I was going to say the same about you and your liking of Modest mouse. Wow, are you serious, you really like Modest Mouse? Odd, eh? best move on - I sense this has run its course.
@thomasshohio well, that's great. I just have a problem with people who come here badmouthing what is posted. I can did not liking, but, when it gets abusive they get deleted and blocked. Do not fuck with Red House Painters, or Kozelek for that matter. Modest Mouse is good for a little while, Kozelek's music is good forever. Now fuck off.
@ModestMouse1207 Modest Mouse has a unique off balance feel while this has a relaxed country feel. Most average people would prefer the ladder, but I'm glad to be just the opposite of that. Long live the mouse.

Because it sounds like you're just putting it all down.
Haydn was not a better composer than Albinoni?
Physics, games, and thousands of other things are also considered arts.
Einstein's theories were just as good as yours as a child when you decided the world revolved around you?
It's not totally arguable that the music is any better, I understand that, but that being said, the music of some has many more implications....
