@Rachella38 Regarding the reference of Bukhari; I have read this also. In the actual arabic the word used for "fight" is "Qatl" and "Qatl" does not only mean to fight a war or to kill, but it also implies "arguing" and "persuasion". Many Muslims even interpret such references wrongly.

6If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah. and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge.
7How can there be a league, before Allah and His Messenger, with the Pagans, except those with whom ye made a treaty near the sacred Mosque? As long as these stand true to you, stand ye true to them: for Allah doth love the righteous.
8How (can there be such a league), seeing that if they get an advantage over you, they respect not in you the ties either of kinship or of covenant? With (fair words from) their mouths they entice you, but their hearts are averse from you; and most of them are rebellious and wicked.
9The Signs of Allah have they sold for a miserable price, and (many) have they hindered from His way: evil indeed are the deeds they have done.
10In a Believer they respect not the ties either of kinship or of covenant! It is they who have transgressed all bounds.
11But (even so), if they repent, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity,- they are your brethren in Faith: (thus) do We explain the Signs in detail, for those who understand.
12But if they violate their oaths after their covenant, and taunt you for your Faith,- fight ye the chiefs of Unfaith: for their oaths are nothing to them: that thus they may be restrained.
13Will ye not fight people who violated their oaths, plotted to expel the Messenger, and took the aggressive by being the first (to assault) you? Do ye fear them? Nay, it is Allah Whom ye should more justly fear, if ye believe!

Sura 9:29 in the Quran says, "Fight those who believe not even if they be People of the book [Christians and Jews] until they have willingly agreed to pay the Jizya tribute in recognition of their submissive state.
@Rachella38 This verse is in the context that the governing state is of the Muslims and in this governing state, the non-Muslims are required to pay Jizya/tax so that they can be under the Muslim's protection and so that the Muslims are not threatened by them. To live in any country requires the inhabitants to pay taxes so that they be protected by the country. This is the same case. If one does not pay, he faces consequences.

In the verse 9: 29, the Qur'an doesn't say that u should convert them to Muslims, but it allows them to practice their religion within the Muslim state. This shows that Islam only wants peace. It states that after u have hit them and overcome them, then tie them up. Then if u want, u can release them as a favor, or take ransom." This means that they are not beheaded because they are still alive and are given back to the enemy. This shows the wonderful teaching of Islam, that u shouldn't just keep the enemy captive, u should release them.
@Rachella38 if what your saying regarding beheading the captives was true, then we wouldn't find from history, that Muhammad (sa) used to release the captives after they paid their due. Sometimes the captives were required to teach 10 Muslims to read and write, and then they were set free. Try to actually understand Islam without being bias.

@Rachella38 Regarding the reference of Bukhari; I have read this also. In the actual arabic the word used for "fight" is "Qatl" and "Qatl" does not only mean to fight a war or to kill, but it also implies "arguing" and "persuasion". Many Muslims even interpret such references wrongly.

@Rachella38 This verse is in the context that the governing state is of the Muslims and in this governing state, the non-Muslims are required to pay Jizya/tax so that they can be under the Muslim's protection and so that the Muslims are not threatened by them. To live in any country requires the inhabitants to pay taxes so that they be protected by the country. This is the same case. If one does not pay, he faces consequences.

It states that after u have hit them and overcome them, then tie them up. Then if u want, u can release them as a favor, or take ransom." This means that they are not beheaded because they are still alive and are given back to the enemy. @Rachella38 if what your saying regarding beheading the captives was true, then we wouldn't find from history, that Muhammad (sa) used to release the captives after they paid their due. Sometimes the captives were required to teach 10 Muslims to read and write, and then they were set free. Try to actually understand Islam without being bias.

This is tactic that God has given to Muhammad (sa) during war, which includes cutting their finger-tips, deeming them useless. If Islam promoted violence, then why would Muhammad (sa) say to the people of Mecca when it was conquered, "there shall be no blame on u this day and u r all forgiven." This was after 13 yrs of murder & persecution.

It will help u understand the Qur'an according to its proper text. There is also a link to the english translation with long commentary. It would also be useful to read.

@Rachella38 Perhaps you can provide us with a comparative analysis with the Christian Crusades. The rules of war established and practiced by the Prophet(saw) included the following:
1. Protection of all non-combatants( predominantly consisting of women, children and elderly at all costs
2. Protection of nature and natural resources e.g. fruit trees, food related plants drinking water
3. No disproportionate response to enemy
4. When enemy seeks peace, then accept this offer immediately

Where do you get the context that this verse is only was during war time? Isn't the Koran complete and in need of no other book? As far as defensive wars, lying in wait and ambush are not defensive tactics. Are Muslims permitted to lie to adavnce the cause of the Doctrine of Satan called Islam?

@TheAmericanRifleman I am not sure your statement is entirely correct. Israel, is a Jewish(religious) theocracy as well. Its was established based on the perceived religious rights of the Jewish people. Needless to say that there are democratic institutions within Israel, however, at times the systematic drivers are theocratic in nature or at least perceived that way.

@Rachella38 What is said in this verse does not relate, like you sound it does, to Muslims being taught to kill non-Muslims. This verse relates to a particular event in early Islamic history when Muslims were beseiged and tortured and Muslims were allowed to retaliate after 13 years of patience and perseverance.
The Islamic teaching relating to Muslim behavior towards non-Muslims is one of kindness and love. "There is no compulsion in religion" (Quran)..
