  • I'm planning to get a SM57 (cause I've been listening you play :) ) and I have question about it: SM57 is a low impedance mic, so do I have to get some kind of impedance adapter or some other device to use it with a basic (guitar) tube amp (champ 5f1, valve junior combo, etc. ...)? Could you recommend one? Thanks!

  • Great gear, but you know, I reckon that like many of the other greats, it wouldn't matter what gear you used, it would sound fantastic.

  • Nice stuff Jason. My OC-2 finally went TU so I've pulled that out of my chain. I may pick up the Opto (or get one for my B Day). Still running through my DE7>PS5>Sonic Stomp>Tube MP>Board. Sounds sweet (especially with the SS). BTW, no longer in S. Florida. Now in Tulsa. Let me know if you ever get this way. Cains Ballroom (Yes, the Cains Ballroom) would be a great venue for you. Cheers! Mikel Lee

  • This is the greatest amp in the world! I have to give it to you Jason i love your intelligents it takes a bright person to come up with this set up it's the cats ass and I love your positive way you make video's you seem very kind and tough at the same time. Ive heard thousands of harp players and your the best most innovative player ever. I hope you go down in history for your ability! Thanks Paison for all you do! Rusty Bergandine

  • Hi Mr. Jason, if i understand your explanation, the "Sonic Maximizer" is the responsable for this "Deep Bass" on your playing?

A friend of mine is selling one of this, and i'm thinking to get one...

Thanks for your amazing videos too !!!

  • @betorabelo1 If I may, the Sonic Maximizer is not responsible for the deep bass, all the Sonic Maximizer does is bring out the best in the signal, I have one and it makes a difference. Jason use to use a PS5 phase shifter. Not sure if he still does. I do and I when I use it (which is seldom) you can get the underlying bass line. It's a great effect on certain songs but it's not for "every" song. J...if I'm wrong please correct me. Mikel Lee

  • Butter...it's good like butter

  • I got an email from Greg outlining technical issues with mic's and xlr's and stuff.

    Quality stuff. Thanks Jason.

    Woody

  • Thanks Jason, great to know in such detail, your rig.

Reference to a volume control on your SM57 caught my interest. I play guitar and harp in my band, so I have to have an on/off for when I put the mic down.

    Will check that out..

    . Woody

  • Hey woody, yeah I mad Greg make mine so it turns off at 0. Needed for sure for me too!

    J

  • Ricci - you still using that harmoniser ?

  • hell yeah.

  • what can you tell me about playin the lee oskar major diatonic compared to the melody maker?

im new to harps and lookin to buy another and came across these two. what would be a better buy for a beginner?

  • OK, seriously, I am 10-15 per cent gay for you right now. I've been trying to figure out a rig this awesomlicous for years and now you've done it for me. I don't mean to alarm you but I have the beginnings of an erection right now just thinking about it.

    ....

I think what I'm trying to say is "THANK YOU!"

  • Thank you that is very sweet and flattering comment! Funny too. Thank you for watching.

    J

  • Hey, I'm putting a pedal board together. Any suggestions on a power supply and case for the pedals? seeing how you like, a master on the subject. Something that good but relatively cheap haha

  • Totally go with the BBE Supa Charger unles you need a 16 volt unbalanced put or something like that wich the t-rex has. Both those are great. Me and my bros are all using supachargers.

  • Thanks for response Jason, in fact I leaved a message with Brady some time ago saying thanks for your good job helping to make the harmonica a better respected instrument ( at least in Brazil this is not a reality yet). A have another question too: this honk tone when you dont using the pedals yet, I only because the amp setting, the mic or both?

  • Hi Jason, Where the settings for the amp and the pedals that was on the video info???

    Thanks

    G.S. [:::]

  • Sorry! Those were in the same/duplicate videoe that Brian posted...They are here now though. Thanks for the heads up.

    Jason

  • I´m using a custom amp by Serrano Amps, a amp crafted in Brazil for harmonica ( pretty good amp, you can check on you tube for some vid, Rick Estrin used this amps when he came to Brazil some months ago). My model is a 30w, 1x12 jensen.

    thanks a lot of blowing!

    G.S. [:::]

  • A have another question too: this honk tone when you dont using the pedals yet, It´s only because the amp setting, the mic or both? ( Please in the 3rd time I posted this question w/o answer( thanks for attention

    G.S. [:::]

  • Definitly Both. If your turn the TOONE controls down and the volume up yo4'll get closer and closer to that sound then when you got it start fine tuning it by turning the tone controls UP and the volume down a bit.

Sorry it took so much time

    J

  • And about the honking tone, Are you saying first turn all te controls down ( mid, bass, treble) and volume up and adjust from this to find the honking tone? My amp ( 2 6l6 on power and 2 12ax7 on pre amp , 30w) has the same controls than your HG50 : treble, bass, mid and two input for hi or lo gain.

  • And I was just surprised for your distorted sound with shure sm 57 and ev-re 10 cause powerfull amps needs pretty louds volumes to get distortion from power tubes, mainly using sm 57, cos it´s a mic with a cleaner tone. Got it? Can you help me?

    Thanks again!

    G.S. [:::]

  • I just bought a sonic maximizer... i tried it out in the store first, but i couldn't really notice the difference until i used it on my own rig... it really brings it out more. Although still can't help but notice my tone lacks low-end...anything to suggest?

  • got my amp

    split fish camp

how have 3 how can this be

    a man 4 all seasons

    a amp 4 all reasons

    a prez 4 high treasons

  • Do you need an impedance transformer for the SM57 while running through the samson wirless system? If so, how do you make your connections?

  • HEY! No the samson does it for you if you line out of it throught the 1/4" out or "Unbalanced" jack. Witjout that you would need a Low to High transformer plug available anywhere electronics are sold.

    Thanks for watching!

  • May I ask what the BBE Sonic Stomp Sonic Maximizer Pedal does?

  • it enhances frequencies that reach the easier slower than others so that it cleans up the tone taking away the "mud sound" it's brilliant...

    J

  • Well I was about to get that as my first pedal to have a better tone and then the guy at guitarcenter gave me the Boss GE-7 instead, and it actually gave me the tone that I wanted. It's awesome. He also said the BBE was a waste of money, but I'll probably end up buying it anyway much later :)

  • Just wondering if you have a BBE sonic maximizer, is it a good idea to get a EQ pedal?

  • It may be for you...I've never used one but Chris Michalek does and his rig sounds great.

    J

  • Hi Jason, thanks for response, Are you saying Chris uses a Serrano amp too?

  • Alright, thanks a lot. I'll probably end up going with the pedal train junior. There priced pretty damn good for what you get.

  • Hi Jason, great video. Sorry if you already covered this but do you use nay kind of transformer to match your mic to the amp?

I use use a shure 545 which has ben rewired for high impedance, but didn't think tha was so easy to do with the SM57?

    Cheers from the UK..

  • Hello Jason, your friend Charlyharp here. I love this video. I think is so cool. I see that my friend Dan is going into it jajajaja. I will do the same when I play waaaaayyy better than I do now. Big Hug from London Charlyharp.

  • Dude,

I'm copying the whole thing. (but for the chorus and harmonist). Just got an AFB from Rod. It must be an early one. The labels are hand written on cheap stickers. Could be a collector's item. We'll see if I can get some big tone going or what.

  • ..... one more thing ,Jason. your sound is absolutely incredible !!! even through my shitty PC speakers ! I've always been an old school purist with the harp ( don't know why..everything else I do is out there)... you just changed my mind !

  • Thanks for the info,brother !

  • I had the honor to play w/ Jason, And let me tell you folks, this rig is incredible. I hardly had to do any work and it sounded great. Just amazing...

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYY....I'm a dumb ass you've written it already in the info.....I think I'm another victim of the Youtube lazy stuff sorry again....

  • Hi Jason,I've just discovered this video, and I guess what ? I 've the same AKG Snapon system without knowing that you've one too LOL. My english is bad here and I need to know what's the volume control you're using? I'm asking you this because I've issues with my Fireball V, and I'm seriously considering buying this volume control and plug it in a Fireball without potentiometer included...Hope you'll answer this....BTW some people on Harp L says that I'm playing close to you...Nuts they're LOL

  • and oh btw, i love your gear too! haha , i'm gonna get me that bbe sonic maximizer for brutal guitar destruction ^^ hope to see you tour europe, and when you do , play in belgium plz :D

  • steve vai has a rival , and finally a virtuoso that can catch and keep my attention ^^

  • I'm purist what depends my sound. So I'm not common with all this pedal stuff. But when I once tried a few Boss pedals they were totally sucking these really nice low bottom bass frequencies that I love so much. So your camera microphone is not sensible to these frequencies.

Do you feel that there is enough low down punch?

Love your sound although. Great thing. And, of course, great playing.

  • I do obviously feel there is enough low punch...actually with the kinder AFB box combined with the BBE OPt. Compressor I know there is much much more bottom punch and certainly it is more controlled and tight sounding.

  • Got a Kinder antifeedback per your advice. Must say I LOVE it! Question: Kinder says you came up with a dual power supply rather than the batts. Are you happy with this setup? If so, which power supplies did you use? Also, probably a dumb q, how do you determine which side is positive and which is negative? Thanks!

  • Hey Harpstr: Glad you like it! Go to radio shack and pick up two 9 volt power supply's that have the 9volt batter female plugs on them....Or they also sell those adapters for the one spot...which is only one plug and can also power three other 9 volt batteries...I just run the wires outside the box and don't tighten the box so tight you could drill it out all fancy like...I'll probably end up doing that...Good luck! Thanks for watching and congrats on a GREAT and useful purchase!

  • I just shot a load in my pants! I just now picked up a digital delay, came home stoked, saw your video, cryed, then finished with a sad happy sticky load. Thank you!

  • Thank you very much for sharing your gear info. I use a Boss OC3 (Drive Mode) and it's very useful. No low Octave tones audible. And it has a hidden feature: When you go into it with very low level, you can use it's built in noisegate which is a great feedback killer. Actually, I guess the Kinder antifeedback is nothing else than that. Check out my channel, and keep on the good work! M."S."J.

  • Wow thats useful info! I wish i had known that shit two years ago when I was driving all over nor cal checking old music stores for an ols OC2 and bypassing all those OC3's...damn...Anyway Yhank you Memphis Charlie for all the inspiration.

  • This guy is definitely not the real Charlie ;)

Anyway, you do sound HUGE on this vid.

  • i herd the boss oc 2 works as a anti feedback pedal. can you turn your amp& mic right up full wack & not get feedback with your boss oc pedal??

  • As I've said, you can use the OC3 to reduce feedback (don't know about the OC2), BUT you have to lower your volume, even with a standard vocal microphone. It's the same as with noisegates, you have to get below the gate's thershold when not playing. Don't put any overdrive/compressor in front of it, it will reduce the quiet/signal volume difference.

    ---------------

Yeah, sorry for my silly name-choice.

  • if i lower the volume on my mic or amp the feedback goes down anyway. surley you want a high output mic with a amp that can handle it or a pedal that helps you

  • The low output of the mic is compensated by cranking the level and/or drive on the OC3. With noise gates, you as well have to lower the mic level, though not as much as with an OC3. You then compensate the lower volume with the overdrive (and/or booster) pedal or the amp. A gate with send-return makes sense.

  • Jason, Have you tried the Lone Wolf Harp delay pedal? Seen the Ryan Hartt video on it?

  • I have never ran a powered signal to an amp. How do you balance between mixer or wireless mic volume and the amps volume controls?

  • Hi Jason !

It would be interesting to know which settings

you use on Opto stomp and Maximizer. They sound

amazing.I've been looking for good compressor

for a while now,but perhabs you have solved that!

  • The optical compressor settings are :Volume= 5, Compression=2-3, The Sonic Maximizer settings are : Low= 2-3, Processor=5-6, The kinder pedal is 1st knob= 9:00 oclock, 2nd= 5:00 oclock, 3rd= 12:00 oclock the delay is all knobs at 9:00 oclock the chorus and harmonizer change all the time with my moods and purposes the HG 50 is as follows: Volume between 3-8,Treble at 2, mid at 1 3/4, bass at 7 the tubes are a 5751 and a 12 AT two Svetlanna 6l6's and a groove tube 5AR 4.Hope that gets it

    Thanks

    J

  • Hey now . .. that is some awsome stuff Jason. Thanks so much for sharing. Question, which of the inputs & outputs do you use on the boss chorus and harmonist?

  • The main ones...The ones marked A i think? should I try the others???

    J

  • Holy Shit does that set up sound KILLER!!!

  • Jason: this video is a lot darker than the first one you made showing all your gear..it is a lot harder to see the details..maybe you had a stronger light on the camera or shining down on the case? Fwiw...still, it's dynamite info you provide. Great stuff and you're too generous.

    Love, Eliz.

  • Hi Jason, could you do a brief demo of the amp without effects? A couple of people (another amp builder) are saying the amp sounds so amazing because of the pedals!? Not because of the amp your spectacular playing.

  • Hmm...The harp king has the anti feedback pedal built into it and other than that just compression delay etc.I will certainly be happy to demonstrate the amp without the effects but of course I believe the effects sound great, thats why I use them.Funny enough I may have played that "Other Amp Builders" rig with these very same effects and didn't like it! Does his name rhyme with Funny Lunar? I don't know this will be fun I'll make another video hopefully tonight! thanks for watching!

    Love

    j

  • No more EV RE-10, Jason?

  • No ...I still love them but I love the natural bass from the 57 a bit more these days. Thanks for watching!

    J

  • Thanks for sharing your very cool rig Jason. Nice.....

  • Thank you!

    J

  • Oops, forgot to ask a question: When you play really large venues do you run your signal out from the Behringer, mic the amp, or a little of both? Thanks!

  • Just mic the amp only. Thanks!

    J

  • Man, are these videos great. It's like being a guitar player and watching Hendrix demo all the his gear. This is so valuable in helping me experiment with my own sound. AND it saves much misspent $ due to the "wonder what that thing does?" buying impulse. Thanks so much Jason!!!

  • Hey Jason, I've been looking all over for the OC-2, but I can't seem to find anything. Do you know where I could look?

  • Don't get the OC-2! Did you hear what i was saying about it in the video? Get a better/real compression pedal like the BBE in this video! Or something comprable

  • Haha, I'm 16 and very limited on funds. And I love the tone you used to get with that thing.

  • Hey Jason, I've been looking all over for the OC-2, but I can't seem to find anything. Do you know where I could look?

  • Great Stuff Jason. I own a Harp Gear Double Trouble. Nice amp too but this one ROCKS...

I keep in touch with Brian Amundson and he told me about the new set-up...

  • Sounded GREAT... I own a Harp Gear Double Trouble. I heard Brian Purdy just released this bad boy. Great to hear it in action. (and you too!)

Any plans for another Rockers camp? I attended last spring. (I also know and test drive amps with Brian Admunson)

    Dave in Minneapolis

  • Dave call me...You got my number?

  • Very impressive innovation Jason, keep pushing the envelope. The new amp sounds HUGE too.

  • Thanks so so so much Mark!

  • thanks for taking the time out to show us your gear. by the way what make is the smoke detector on the ceiling?( im just

    f!?*ing with ya)

  • Thanks for taking the time yo watch!

    j

  • damn man! i always liked the bassman's sound before, but that's just scary. sweet. and those bbe stomps make a huge difference too

  • thanks for takin the time to show us your gear. by the way what make is the smoke detector on the ceiling?(im just fuckin with ya )

  • I just chubbed up a little.

  • WOW--that sounds incredible

  • Thank you very much for sharing J. Can`t place a value on musicians like You and Adam. To have that kind of ability and be willing to share is just unheard of, just blows my mind. I don`t have the words to express my gratitude.

  • Hi Jason, please help me I just boght Lee Oskar, but could not overblow the hole 5. I really want to play F#. Is Lee Oskar could not overblow hole 5?. I just started 3 weeks ago.

  • I might have something to offer here, simply because I am not a very experienced overblower and I've had similar issues on certain harps. Like my father in law used to say about auto mechanics, you have to hold your mouth right... the six overblow should be easier, you can hit it, then go down to the 5 and you're embochure is already close to where it needs to be for the 5. That might help.

  • Hi Thanks a lot, I almost get the note by this way, but still inconsistent, but Iat leats I got it. I overblow in hole six while a litle bit I slide my mounth to the right side of hole 5. Thanks.

  • Lee Oskars are notorius for acting strange on overblows...try a suzuki fire breath or a Hohner golden melody, special 20 or marine band also check out my overblow videos...Thanks

    J

  • Hi Jason 've check your video it's really help me to get this F# even though still inconsistent. thanks a lot.

  • jason, nice set-up and thanks for sharing. maybe it's my screen but unfortunately, the vid is a little dark and it's difficult to see the gear, especially when you lean over it. But again, thanks for the very informative lesson. Keep 'em coming... I've learned more about the nuances of the harp from you and Adam Gussow in the last year than I have in the past 25 of playing. Your awesome man... :-)
