i tried making this last friday...used chivken breast cut into small pieces...followed the recipe all the way through...but the sauce go really hard, i mean rock hard once it cooled...it stuck to the plate and would not come off until we heated it up in the microwave. what did i do wrong...?
@nogshim oh sorry to hear that. The sauce must have been cooked too long. If it turns out too sticky and hard, add more water and boil it to thin it out.
I just finished making this dish, its like candy chicken. (lol) I ate a couple of pieces right away. I will cut up the pieces that you suggested in the recipe. The sticky sauce did get a brunt taste to it, as I was trying to spoon all sauce on the chicken. (lol)
I just did my second attempt at this recipe and I nailed it! Check it out on my channel, ive also done a video response to this vid. Love this recipe.
I made this and kimchi stew today. The kimchi stew turned out really great, and the fried chicken looked good too. My sauce did not turn out very good though... It hardened so much, stuck to my teeth, I could barely eat one. Oh well. I'll be trying your other chicken wing recipe (Korean fried chicken) next time. ")
This recipe was very good..the only reason I won't make it again is I don't care for the sticky mess the sauce makes. I had some sauce leftover & mixed with bbq sauce and it was very good.
sorry for the silly question but starch powder? As in potato starch or corn starch or would it matter? also soy sauce...japanese style or chinese? both taste so different, and forgive me as I dont know much about korean cooking, only experience has been korean BBQ places, but this looks very good to make
i love how you munches the food after you cook them:D i will try making this dish in our next potluck dinner which is tomorrow night..thank you for sharing your recipe..
Thank you, just made this also. Same fry recipe, salt pepper, flour / corn starch but I used a regular bbq sauce boiled with some vinegar and plenty of ginger. Reminded me of something I had long ago at kfc. With a different sauce this same recipe you can make general tso also. Thanks =) hugs and kisses!
@123Durden wow, awesome! Next time make this again with all the ingredients and compare the taste. I'm glad to hear that you liked the recipe. Happy cooking!

i wish i had many other different type of asian friends so they can make me good food hehe! (i still love my mom's cooking though too!) Watching your videos Maangchi while i have fever, makes me want to recover faster to eat!
This is foodporn! I’ve had similar sweet and spice fried chicken wings from Chinese places, but I’m sure this is far better. Can you suggest sides from your video collection to make a full meal with this? On another of your videos, you used rice syrup and I think it has lower water content (more sugar); it’s so thick. Would you recommend it for this recipe?
Also, save the wing tips for chicken stock and also you can separate the fat and freeze it for anything you fry for chicken dishes.
hi, I tried out the recipe. Instead of using wings i used parts of chicken. I followed everything it came out looking fantastic, but after 15 min it got really hard.. did i do something wrong.. Please do tell..
i really need to go to an asian market soon and find all the ingredients that i cant find in other markets because i need to start cooking soon!!!!!..im so hungry..-_- its torture watching your videos because your food is soooooo yummy looking. thanks for all these vids. ill be looking forward to seeing more ^-^
