God, I can't believe they even tried replicating Glenn Close's "a single tear" moment from the infinitely better Dangerous Liaisons, based on the same book. They just forgot to add the...I don't know, actual conveying of emotion? Replacing Glenn Close with Sarah Michelle Gellar is like substituting filet mignon with a can of spam.

He wanted revenge on mrs caldwell so he played with Cecile it just so happened that it played in favor with kathryn. Also Kathryn only cause problems for those who have hurt her sebastian fell in love with Annette therefore leaving Kathryn all alone. in the scene where she says "you don't love me anymore" the love they shar

Kathren stayed mean, she was ovely confident and only did the things that she did because sabastian wouldnt have sex with her. Point is, Kathren was a mean jealous b*tch, and didnt give a f*ck if sabastian had died or not. thats why we hate her.

You could argue that this is either a bittersweet ending or a downer ending, if you consider that Annette and especially Cecile has been made corrupt after the experiences their characters go through. Sure, Kathryn has been soundly delivered some justice, but the damage is still done.

His journal was about both of their cruel intentions, and thus both of them were outed for what they really were in the end. Sort of a redemption after death. That's why in the story he dies. And Katheryn was the mastermind, so she had to pay the bigger cost. If you See the Dangerous Liasons, you see they are both bad, but at least one truly loved another person. In the story, Katheryn was just evil and kind of used Sebastian as the puppet to play her games. Justice always prevails. That's how I see it.
