UN PANEL: PRETEXT & BAISED TOWARDS LTTE: 2weeks afterGOSL appointed a commission "Lessons Learned" The American nominee Steven Ratner has authored a book titled Accountability for Human Rights: Atrocities in International Law-Beyond the Nuremberg Legacy. In that book, on page 123 it states that there is systematic discrimination by the GOSL towards the Tamils. Obviously this shows his partiality. Without giving any consideration to the atrocities committed by the LTTE during the past 30 years.
UN Resident Coordinator for Sri Lanka, Neil Buhne, will return to Colombo with a message to the Sri Lankan government from UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon. UN Associate spokesman Farhan Haq said that Buhne will convey the SG’s strong expectations for a better treatment of the UN family in Sri Lanka, as well as for progress on the range of commitments covered in the Joint Statement of May 2009 including resettlement of internally displaced persons, political reconciliation and accountability.
NFF claims Weerawansa gave up death fast after reaching agreement with president
July 11 (LB) The NFF claimed that Minister Weerawansa gave up the death fast after the NFF politburo and President Mahinda Rajapaksa agreed to a set of conditions. “The government assured us that soldiers who fought terrorism will not be allowed to be tried in war crimes tribunals through this UN panel. Sri Lanka will not provide any facilities or support for this panel, no matter what aid we lose
Ban ki moon has become Monkey Boon of LTTE terrorists.
If this man need to find the human right violations there are lot of wars on going in the word. Eg: Israel-Palestine Iraq-USA, Afganstan-USA and they are international wars too. Not an internal problem in one county.
So how this people help to wipeout terrorism from the world? Funny Monkey :D
UN Goal: "To creat a world system of financial control in private hands, able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole" - Caroll Quigley (1966) "Tragedy and Hope, A history of the world in our time". Today it is very true for Sri Lanka.
DM(July 8)Minister Wimal Weerawansa started a fast unto death in front of the UN office in Colombo a short while ago demanding the abolition of the war crime panel appointed by the UN
Minister Weerawansa took part in a pirith ceremony afterwhich he told reporters in the area that he would even sacrifice his life to safeguard the soliders who had fought the war against the LTTE. Minister Weerawansa also urged the public to come in thousands and take part in protests and demonstrations all over the island in order to preassurize UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to dissolve the panel. .
The three other MPs who were staging a fast in front of the UN office broke their fast just minutes before Minister Weerawansa began his sathyagraha. Weerawansa is currently taking part in the fast alone.
Meanwhile speaking at a media briefing in Colombo a short while ago, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya said that Minister Weerawansa's fast was invain as Sri Lanka could not be brought before the International War Crimes Tribunal as the country had not ratified the Rome statute.
MP Jayasuriya said that since the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe who was the then Prime Minister refrained from signing the Roman statute in 2002, Sri Lanka has not ratified to abide by its regulations
Minister Weerawansa: The UN’s Ban ki Moon has taken a decision which he has no power to do. Sri Lanka is a member of the UN. If they are taking action against a member country, what Ban needs to do is to take a proposal to the UN Security Council or the Human Rights Council. Without doing that, he doesn’t have any power to appoint a panel to advise himself. That panel is appointed to take president, military chiefs and soldiers to a war crimes tribunal
Minister Wimal to BBC:This panel is the start of a whole process on war crimes charges at ICC. Patriotic Sri Lankan people will not allow that. Those Ban Ki-Moons thought that we can’t defeat terrorism in this country, but the people of this country proved all of them wrong. So, until Ban Ki-Moon withdraws his three-member panel against Sri Lanka, we will not stop our fight. I say this as the leader of the National Freedom Front, not as a government minister.
BBC Q: Aren’t you embarrassing the government? Isn’t this instigation of terrorism?
Minister Wimal: I will do this whether or not I am a government member. Minister or not, I will do this. I am a citizen who loves this country. We have the responsibility to safeguard our leaders, soldiers who brought peace to this country, and not to allow them to be taken to a war crimes tribunal. I am doing this not because I am a minister or party leader but as a citizen who loves the country.
Minister wimal: We all have to get together, even the honourable monks, for this purpose. This is not a terrorist activity. Terrorist activities are commmitted by America in Iraq and Afghanistan.
BBC Q: What will you do now?
Minister: We are requesting Mr Ban Ki-Moon to withdraw his three-member panel. Until he withdraws it, we will stage continuous demonstrations and this hunger strike in front of the UN office in Colombo. If he doesn’t do that, we will make our protest more serious.
Minister Wimal: As long as he doesn’t abolish it, we will take more serious action in this way. Also we have invited all the Sri Lankans in the world to stage strikes in front of UN offices around the world. Then this will be a worldwide protest against the UN appointing this panel.
ICP(July 8, 2010): "Before Inner City Press could ask if the UN had yet spoke with any of the three Rajapaksa brothers who run the country, UN Associate Spokesman Farhan Haq specified the “high level” meeting: it was between the “chef de cabinet” of Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Vijay Nambiar, and Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative at the UN, Palitha Kohona. To some, this is more than a little ironic." LTTE pimp has no other business than Sri Lanka at UN media briefing, well paid by LTTE
“While respecting the right of citizens to demonstrate peacefully, preventing access to UN offices hinders the vital work being carried out by the United Nations each day to help the people of Sri Lanka,” “The Government has provided assurances for the safety and security of our staff and for their full access to their offices,” he added. “We will be closely monitoring developments and trust these commitments will be honoured.”
Mr. Ban appointed a panel of experts to advise him on accountability issues relating to alleged violations of international human rights and humanitarian law during the final stages of the conflict that ended last year between the Government & LTTE.The three-member panel – comprising Marzuki Darusman of Indonesia, Yasmin Sooka of South Africa and Steven Ratner of the United States – is expected to wrap up its responsibilities within four months of starting work.
