you can play the wii whenever you want and how much you want but always take a break so the wii will cool down but the way to cool it down is to turn off the wii when you are done using it and pull the plug out of the outlet then it should cool down and also give it good ventilation
AND it doesn't matter if you put it sideways or vertical if you're gonna put it vertical have the vertical stand with the wii and keep the vents clear of dust
I lay my WII down and I made a fan box out of Plexi Glass That I then connect to the wii on the side vent I then installed a computer (HUGE) case fan at the end blowing out the hot air sort of vacuuming all the hot air out. Without this set up My WII shuts down after ten minutes. The fan being 12v i am using a 12v cell phone adapter for power and installed a toggle switch on the case.
Bull regarding the stand. That stand doesn't do jack for cooling unless you have the thing set on carpeting like a retard. Fans are good, but the fan is bull. Also, if you're REALLY worried about overheating, you might wanna keep it in red-light (off) rather than yellow (standby) when you'e not playing it.
I for one have never had problems at all so I don't bother with any of the above, save for keeping it on a hard surface with at least one vent fully exposed.
dont get the fan that is under the wii because if your dop and it breaks then nintendo will not reaplace it. and your dont need 2 buy any fancy fans for it. but the fan that goes under has powerful LED lights that drain power from me wii same witht he fan.
They will overheat just from being plugged in. With your Wii off (even overnight) feel where the power cord plugs into the Wii. It's EXTREMELY HOT & it's not even turned on yet. Wanna know how to begin with a cool system ?? Unplug the dang thing when it's not being used. That alone will greatly prolong it's life. I've got Wii Connect also. You really only need to look for updates once a week. You can do that manually yourself. Just reach around back & unplug it for goodness sake..... : )
wait wat is wiiconect24 used for? so ur saying if i kept my wiiconect24 disabled so wen i turn my wii off the wii fan wil go off rite an even tho the wiiconect24 is turned off wat if i have a cd in there will the fan still turn on when the wii is off plz reply thnx man!
I'm stress up. My wii is overheat. So when I start it up sometimes I will get the warning, are sometimes only a black screen. NExt time I play with my wii outside for nature cooling: -6 centigrade degrees
idk if my wii is messed by over heating or what but while im playing my wii would just turn off randomly in the middle of a game and the only way to turn it back on is if i unplugg and plugg back in the power cord connecting to the wii. help
@DiabloDak444 actually bout a month ago i found out that my fan stopworking from overheating..i tooka pencil pused the fan alittle bit and now it works perfectly fine.
@dragonstar00 Hmm I'm gonna try that, but if it ever happens again just put a fan pointing at it's side and it keeps it very cool, It's been working for me... I just shut the fan off when I turn the Wii off and it's even working better then the Wii fan :P
Wii Connect 24 is the equivalent of the E74 for the 360....and if u dont know what that is....it is an error that occurs when the system is overheated and it normally (for both systems) affects the graphics cards or video/audio outputs....and i dont own a PS3 so i dont know what it would be called on that but I remember that on my friend's PS3 that it wouldn't read any discs at all after it overheated.....I dont know what its called though
you dont stand it up when its not in the rack. you lay it down flat. are you really that stupid. i dont have to use any of these methods. all you have to do is make sure the vents on the wii are not blocked
can you help me? my wii like will start up and go to the health and saftey thing and then i says press a so i do and it wont go to home screen it just will still show the dumb healtth and saftey thing like blured into the screen.......then i try that unplug thing and it still dosent work...can you help me??
thats actually got to be one of the smartest ways to fprevent a wii from overheating that i've heard in a long time. Mine over heated while i was playing rock band today-- i'll just do what you do lol.
Mine sadly overheated and it's suffering from artifacting. I don't like the fact that the light stays on when you turn it off, and I like my room dark, so I tilt it on its side against the wall, but I tilted it on the wrong side and such... I should've just unplugged it.
Im kinda surprised wii's dont die very often. Since they get so hot and on standby mode it stays hot forever. When i got mine a few months after it came out i thought it might die because of how hot it got. I didnt know if they were liable to death or not since my xbox has died 3 times. And nobody else knew either because they just came out but i guess they tested them. I guess theyre cheap enough i can just buy a new one if mine breaks. Good job nintendo.
this southern america people of course its going to be hot everything over heats eventually so i just bought an intercooler and kept it in a cold room and when ever i turn it on it quickly doesnt overheat so just try to playit more often and you will be fine
umm listen, if you connect to wiiconnet 24 ur light will turn red when u close it. 1. you either turn wiiconnect24 off or if yu want wii connect to stay on when its yellow just hold on to the power button till it turns red.
Nintendo should fix this NOW not the customers. i dont understand why Wii (Xbox) having cooling problems dont they test the consoles before they release them! i had to take my Wii off the stand and turn off 'connect 24" and 'Standby', results not in yet.
the problem occurs in standby mode when the LED light is YELLOW. hav u ever noticed how it can get hot in standby? this is b/c the fan isnt enabled in standby. just as a precautionary measure i unplug mine but my friend keeps his on all the time. his gets hot but it hasn't suffered any damage. also nintendo wifi connectors can get hot to. hey umm if you could reply to this message it would be great. does the wii only overheat when wiiconnect 24 is enabled or can it overheat from playing it to much?
i dont think it overheats, it gets warm. thats it. everyone is just to paranoid nowadays. is there any video on youtube where the wii broke because of overheating?
My stereo receiver gets warm even when its sitting in idle with no music playing and my Home theater receiver gets REALLY warm but it has a cooling fan inside and it still gets hot becaise of all the processing gear and amplifier inside "620 watts" and they still work fine so any elctric device gets warm if it has an internal power supply.
It's basicly when wii has a constant internet connection for automatic updates. I dont really see any point in connect 24. I only use it when I use the vote channel and stuff.
Your "brilliant" idea to keep the machine cooled while WiiConnect24 is enabled is to aim a large house fan on it all the time? Sorry, but that's not a viable "fix" for many.

Geez guys, my GPU died without overheating or Wiiconnect24. If overheating is the problem, your GPU would've likely died sooner or later anyway.
