How to stop the wii from overheating

you can play the wii whenever you want and how much you want but always take a break so the wii will cool down but the way to cool it down is to turn off the wii when you are done using it and pull the plug out of the outlet then it should cool down and also give it good ventilation

AND it doesn't matter if you put it sideways or vertical if you're gonna put it vertical have the vertical stand with the wii and keep the vents clear of dust

I lay my WII down and I made a fan box out of Plexi Glass That I then connect to the wii on the side vent I then installed a computer (HUGE) case fan at the end blowing out the hot air sort of vacuuming all the hot air out. Without this set up My WII shuts down after ten minutes. The fan being 12v i am using a 12v cell phone adapter for power and installed a toggle switch on the case.

Bull regarding the stand. That stand doesn't do jack for cooling unless you have the thing set on carpeting like a retard. Fans are good, but the fan is bull. Also, if you're REALLY worried about overheating, you might wanna keep it in red-light (off) rather than yellow (standby) when you'e not playing it.

I for one have never had problems at all so I don't bother with any of the above, save for keeping it on a hard surface with at least one vent fully exposed.

dont get the fan that is under the wii because if your dop and it breaks then nintendo will not reaplace it. and your dont need 2 buy any fancy fans for it. but the fan that goes under has powerful LED lights that drain power from me wii same witht he fan.

They will overheat just from being plugged in. With your Wii off (even overnight) feel where the power cord plugs into the Wii. It's EXTREMELY HOT & it's not even turned on yet. Wanna know how to begin with a cool system ?? Unplug the dang thing when it's not being used. That alone will greatly prolong it's life. I've got Wii Connect also. You really only need to look for updates once a week. You can do that manually yourself. Just reach around back & unplug it for goodness sake..... : )

Geez guys, my GPU died without overheating or Wiiconnect24. If overheating is the problem, your GPU would've likely died sooner or later anyway.

Don't be surprised if you install a fan but it still dies.

Wii Connect 24 is the equivalent of the E74 for the 360....and if u dont know what that is....it is an error that occurs when the system is overheated and it normally (for both systems) affects the graphics cards or video/audio outputs....and i dont own a PS3 so i dont know what it would be called on that but I remember that on my friend's PS3 that it wouldn't read any discs at all after it overheated.....I dont know what its called though

Mine sadly overheated and it's suffering from artifacting. I don't like the fact that the light stays on when you turn it off, and I like my room dark, so I tilt it on its side against the wall, but I tilted it on the wrong side and such... I should've just unplugged it.

Im kinda surprised wii's dont die very often. Since they get so hot and on standby mode it stays hot forever. When i got mine a few months after it came out i thought it might die because of how hot it got. I didnt know if they were liable to death or not since my xbox has died 3 times. And nobody else knew either because they just came out but i guess they tested them. I guess theyre cheap enough i can just buy a new one if mine breaks. Good job nintendo.

umm listen, if you connect to wiiconnet 24 ur light will turn red when u close it. 1. you either turn wiiconnect24 off or if yu want wii connect to stay on when its yellow just hold on to the power button till it turns red.

the problem occurs in standby mode when the LED light is YELLOW. hav u ever noticed how it can get hot in standby? this is b/c the fan isnt enabled in standby. just as a precautionary measure i unplug mine but my friend keeps his on all the time. his gets hot but it hasn't suffered any damage. also nintendo wifi connectors can get hot to. I unplug my wii and my usb connector to prevent all of my tech from dying.

The wifi usb connector only works when you turn on the computer, so it may not overheat unless you leave the computer on all day.

My system overheated once or twice. I went out and bought a fan that fits in the back of it and it worked for a month or two then started to sputter. So instead of going out and buying another one I just put a small fan in back of it only while i play no biggie.

My stereo receiver gets warm even when its sitting in idle with no music playing and my Home theater receiver gets REALLY warm but it has a cooling fan inside and it still gets hot becaise of all the processing gear and amplifier inside "620 watts" and they still work fine so any elctric device gets warm if it has an internal power supply.
