Epee is a heavier weapon, so unlike foil, you can't really just go in for a quick shot to the chest. Also in Epee, anywhere on the body can be hit, so it's more based on strategy. I've fenced with both Epee and Foil, Foil is more twitch reflex and speed, while Epee is more defense and strategy
@putdownthreads I'm fully aware of all of this. I also know that the goal in epee, moreso than the other two weapons, is to fake out your opponent. I personally prefer sabre because you can attack your opponent ninja style.
@MacDragard It looks like they are just bouncing around, but each fencer is playing out multiple scenarios with each move they make. It's all calculated
oh my god a leftie like me!!! so happy now... glad i dont fence epee... i know someone in my league whi used to. hes realllyyyy jumpy about his feet..
@TheMrParky Try searching for Zawrotniak, he's a pistolgrip leftie and one of my personal favorite fencers. You could also look for Joerg Fiedler. French grip users I know include Grumier and I thought Lucenay as well.
If you don't care about them being well known, try searching Stephane Ganeff. There isn't much of him but there is an old bout of him facing Fiedler, and a recent one.
since these blades are blunted, why use all this padding? ...........besides, a few bruises makes one sharper!! i say wear those puffy shirts they used to wear! go for that 18th century theme!
The padding is for protection, it's not just the point of the blade that can sometimes make the weapon dangerous. Accidents can happen, and are less likely with the padding. Not to mention in the Sabre style, where you can also score points from slashing, the blade can leave one nasty and painful mark. Even if it doesn't draw any blood, it can still hurt like a bitch to be slapped with one of those blades.
@njhomie23 wires used to judge hits. when the epee makes contact, it closes a circuit and turns on a light to let the judges know a hit has been scored.
Did you win? I fence him all the time but I only win when he's not serious, which was like, twice. Or at least, I think he isn't. (To clarify, I fence at the same club he does, that's why I fence him so often:P)
I'm doing epee its kinda fun! challenging but fun

Lefties in Foil is the worst combo ever... But its best to fence them all the time to build up great counter attacks

The biggest problem I have with epee is that, as evidenced in this video, there just seems to be way too much foreplay in the fencing.

@ExitLeftband I understand that. I just think it's slow, so that's why epee isn't for me.

@acerb45666555 Believe Me Even with padding you bruise , When I just started Epee , I came home as a dalmatian XD

@acerb45666555 We actually hit very hard and if the blade breaks at an angle it will kill you.
