I have been a Johnny Cash fan since I was 14 years old, decades before he worked with Rick Rubin, and I am prepared to overlook the fact that he kept company with the likes of Billy Graham and other religious looneys, so Johnny making inaccurate and entirely silly remarks about drugs on US television in the early 1970's neither surprises nor disappoints me.
He will always retain a special place in my heart for his artistry
Why admire Neil for this song in this context. He has done dozens of great songs with humanitarian messages and performs them as no one else. He is so unique, so fuckin unique, and only sensitive idiots can like him. He was doing drugs when he wrote this and performed it but hell is paved with good intentions and his song did a hell of a lot more good and finally Neil got off drugs when they were stolen from him
The so called "drugs are creative" generation of musicians, which includes Neil Young, wrote not one song espousing drug use. Neil Young with this song, James Taylor (Fire & Rain), Jefferson Airplane (White Rabbit); there are others. Just for this song, Neil Young was a guest of Johnny Cash.
Everything not man made is natural. Putting everything it in your system is not. This is what the man meant and reduces one's ability to comprehend as it is evident from your comment.
not anymore it isn't. Examples: "white widow", "purple haze" etc..
Back then it was just weed. Now there's a billion different strains, different growing techniques, etc... It's unnaturally high in THC, because we found out that's what makes you high. It's become as processed as the foods we eat. Our generation really fucked things up.

Yeah..Johhny speed and cocaine are soooo natural. I'd rather smoke all natural weed than drink putrid man made alcohol or smoke govt taxed tobacco.
Good performnace by Neil!

@smoke117 i think he slipped- he almost said it is a natural, but he had to change his tune so he wouldn't take heat and ruin his career.
