@jomccarty With all due respect, the Caliber FEALS faster when your jolted by slamming into fixed ratios simulating a fixed transmission, BUT if you are scientific about it and actually measure it, you will find 0-60 is faster in normal mode, just stomping it to the floor letting it hit redline. I have measured it with a performance comptuer, and tried mutiple ways, autostick is actually slower. Measure it, youll find out fealings and actual timing is different.
@n9iagalbert well our caliber has 85000 mile and at about 60k is when i noticed the autostick being better insteadd of worse sorry i wasnt more specific
@G3TLOOSHemi 172 hp state of the art VVT DOHC direct injected 2.4L is one of the most powerfull naturally asparated 4's available, AND its about 3200 pounds, so I dont see how the hp is the issue.
Love the car, its great in the snow, it handeles grate with a 4 wheel in dependant suspension like preformance crars have, it has a lot of interior space as I dont need a truck, but this car can hall a lot of stuff when needed, its innexpensive. Its only weakness is its slow, it needs a v6.
@n9iagalbert your are correct i have driven mine in blizzards when the plows had been pulled off the streets this car handels the snow and ice very well . and the room that you get when you put the 60/40 seats down is amazing i do agree it needs abetter 4 or a v6
Do you know why the caliber doesnt shift. All of the 0-60 videos ive seen, it will rev up to 6k and stay there as if it is in first and wont shift, but the speed keeps on going up?
It has a cvt for a transmission. It doesnt have gears, just a steel belt with varriable ratios. It doesnt need to increase rpm to high, shift drop down, then go to high, etc. When you press on the gas, you get the power you ask for, not more not less. This makes the steap power cerv of a 4 cylender feal flat like a V8. NOT power just smothe. Look up CVT its crasy, but nice. Not a performance part, but great for being smothe.
The point of this video was to demonstrate how the Mopar High flow air filter sounds inside a Caliber R/T with the gas in the floor. Some people want more power, but are conserned it will make the car noisy. This test is designed to show how loud it can be at a maximum. Some companies that sell high flow air filters clame it helps gas milage. Personally I dont believe that it does. What it does do is allow more air flow, which helps increase power.
Yeah, learning to drive fast, accelerate quickly, and exploit the torque range of my stock 2007 2.0L SXT w/ CVT took dang near a year!
The highest torque is actually around the 4500-5500 range. You kind of have to learn to 'feather' your foot to coax the CVT into the exactly into a certan spot.
You know you hit it, because the CVT starts behaving like a 'flywheel'...you can feel the whip forward, and you can maintain it for several seconds, if you handle your foot just right :)
I had a K&N CAI on the car and it was very very loud, so I went for the Mopar high flow filter in place of the CAI, plus the CAI got a lot of hot air so it truly was a loud HAI. I prefer the Mopar high flow filter, and cannot see any difference in performance.
so basically it keeps it at the same RPM (around 1000-2000 and/or idle speed) while accelerating until you reach desired speed? because I can see the fuel efficeincy then if that's the case.
Your foot determins rpm, the harder you press the higher the rpm, so if you want 1000-2000rpm and you dont press hard, it will stay there. That is also the way people drive 1.0-2.0L echono boxes to get 35-45 mpg, but if you press down, the rpm will jump. If you want fuel echonomy and are willing to accept 0-60 times of 15-20 seconds, then yes you can keep 1000-2000 rpm. IF you ever need power, it is availbe when needed, and gas milage then suffers.
What it does excel at is making a 4 cylender very very smothe. Many 4's dont have power until 4000-5000rpm, and the CVT makes it feal very smothe accross the entire rpm band. You may not have a lot of power or torque, but what you do have is constant accross the entire engines rpm range. It is silky smoothe.
Personally I think it should have a 5 speed automatic, or manual. But I also believe it should have a v6, as the gas milage of the R/T is that of a V6 anyway.

if you are thinking the cold air intake makes a differance you are rong i get the same 0 to 60 speed with just standered parts. o also so people no take you car in a request it for a recalibration and firmware updrade. i did and cus i was havving a litttle trouble and ifd shaved off 10 sec on the 0 to 60.
A V6 is pretty decent allready (Comparred to a 4 cylendar), and adding a CVT would do the same, but add power and torque, silky smothe like a V12 and the power of a V6, plus modern Ford engine building, must be awesome. Not a race car, but very smothe, and decent power
i take it back man,its an alright car,but i just hate the cvt in it...i used to sell dodges and chryslers and jeeps in the summer...i want the srt4 cailber though
The point to this video was not to brag about the Dodge Caliber, it was to demonstrate the impact of performance parts. When I got the car, I found very few people documented what the car sounds like with different parts added. No it is not a race car; yes it is a 4 cylinder.
why not use autostick. Ive found if you let off the gas when you shift it makes it a ton quicker

Nice car man! :D I kinda like the idea of CVT in a daily driver. Nice and "smooth"
racerxgt1 1 year ago
@racerxgt1 Its definatly not a fast car, but the cvt makes that steep torque cerve a 4 cylender has and makes it flat like a V12, silky smoothe

Thtats about right. The CVT isnt designed for speed, it makes the car smothe not quick.

do you like this car? my mom has one and i love it, its pretty quick for being a four cylinder

So you get exactly what you ask for with your right foot, without the compermise of a few gear ratios that are not allways 100% what you want.

It has a cvt for a transmission. The cvt has one steel belt and 2 pullies for infinate number of rartios, no foxed gears.

10 sec adequate. the power is strongest 0-30. past 60 mph, it struggles. its fine for a compact wagon. the volvo v50 2.4i is the same.
