their marching is completely sloppy compared to the guards at the tomb of the unknowns in Washington, D.C. You'd think they would have more discipline.

@TheDC08 They do have a lot of discipline. It may be because the soles of their shoes are very slippery on that surface (hence why there are a lot of videos of them falling down). Don't ask why the heck they wear them because I don't have a clue. I think they're mostly there for tradition anyway, like the Queen.

@Kittywhiskers1000 You are correct. The foot guards traditionally wear hobnailed boots, which make it particularly difficult not to slip on certain surfaces when they're wet or frozen over. They do not however patrol merely for tradition. All of the guards are fully trained soldiers (most with active combat experience) that will defend their posts fiercly if forced to do so. It would truly be ill-advised to be on the receiving end of such a demonstration.

Even though it's boring, it's sure as hell is better than in Afghanistan, they get paid just as much and live longer.
