  • This hymn is available in ancient Byzantine notation in our double CD, Byzantium in Rome. Cappella Romana.

  • Such beauty and wonder in our Orthodox Church

  • The Grotteferrata chants likely are older than the melodies used by the Greek churches of the Orthodox communion because of the schism.

  • @johnross12 The "orthodox" as you said,is not a...communion,it is the the Church!

  • @geokonn The marks of the Church are that is it One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. While the Orthodox Church has holiness apostolicity it lacks unity and Catholicity unlike the Catholic Church, which has all of the above. Eastern Orthodoxy is schismatic.

  • @johnross12 you the "catholic" believe that...I am the orthodox and catholic christian of the one church of the Christ believe that your papal schism is just a religious community and not a church!if you don't want to hear that be more politie!I know history and i know how the greek people and the orthodox suffered by the papist!

  • @johnross12 it is a stupidness to start a dogmatical dialogue here!so is better this holy days of Easter to stop and pray!Happy Ressurection!

  • search for the history of Grottaferrata. she had the greek mode of music, even after the " schism" . international musicology dont agree your argument.

  • beautiful and sad

  • This track is from the double-disc by Cappella Romana, "Byzantium in Rome," and features Ioannis Arvanitis as its principle soloist. It is available through both CD vendors and MP3 download services.

  • I have to buy this CD.....Just beautiful

  • I greatly value your generosity of spirit to share this wealth of music. I did not know of such beauty until I recently "discovered" You Tube and about the same time began a journey of yearning to paint Saints. Now I soar into the deep night on the wings of the Chant as I create beautiful little altars as many who have gone before me...and called forth a smile of Grace. Thank you for enriching my life. I am not Catholic, but deeply blessed by our Lord.

  • Beautiful. I was wondering why the Grottaferratan chant you've been sharing seems to be a bit different from other Orthodox stuff I've heard. Now I know. It is funny you should put their chant on these past two days, since I discovered them just a day or two before you put the first one up. Thank you!

  • Coincidence?... ;-)

  • Exquisite. There are definite differences in texture between these Byzantine pieces and those of the later traditions found in Constantinople and Athos. Thank you for sharing these.

  • Splendid! We were once united....

  • The is beautiful.
