If you like this sound, check out another cat named Tab Smith from the same time period. Similar type of feel, especially a number called Red, Hot, and Blue.
The funny thing about the photo of the first cover in the slideshow... it's NOT Earl Bostic! It Bull Moose Jackson, another King recording artist who did some rather "risque" songs, including Big 10 Inch Record, Who Threw the Whiskey in the Well, and others. Look up Bull Moose Jackson and you'll see a slew of photos of him... it definetly isn't Bostic in this photo. Someone messed up!

This used to get a lot of plays on the BBC Two Way Family Favourites record request show at midday on Sundays back in the early fifties. Been a favourite ever since.
First time I heard this was on an Artist's Choice CD The Rolling Stones listed some of their faves and this was one of Keith Richard's picks. It became a fave of mine.
As far as I´m concerned this is as good as music gets but my old dad assures me that Earl´s best ever was Indian Summer. We can´t find this anywhere, can anyone help please ? Does it even exist ?
Oh my, how this takes me back - gotta be at least 1956 when we wore this record out at the Friday night dances after school. Almost brings tears to my eyes to hear it again. Thanks so much.
You're not going to believe this, but I was just sitting here, and about a second before the cut ended, I looked down only to find out that I'd removed all my clothes... how the heck did that happen???
Does anyone know if bostic's copyright has ran out? interested in using a comp for a short film however I'd want to enter it into film festivals and their policies of copyright blah blah blah. Get back to me!
Dang, I love this! I always heard the name Earl Bostic before but never put two and two together to realize he's that guy with the liquid-hot sax sound that melts the speakers when it plays on all the Carolina Beach Music stations.
No doubt about it. Earl Bostic was one of the greatest sax players around. His beefy full sound was unique to him. My other favorite sax players include Steve Douglas (who played with Duane Eddy & did the Peter Gunn theme in 1959), Red Prysock, Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins amoung others.
This was the first record i actually bought, i was 15 at the time and they usd to play it regular on the radio, it certainly brings back the memories of my youth.
I'll never ever forget!! I played this song on the Wurlitzer bubbler jukebox at my Grandpa's restaurant in San Fernando. The 78 record was very warped and wiggled on the turntable. When it was over and descending back to the tray to go back in the stack, it didn't go back in squarely and was sticking out of the stack. Amazing it didn't break. I have an old 45 of it but I'll never forget that moment.
@redrocksjfc Coltrane is a sideman on a number of his recordings. I have an album with him and Richard Groove Holmes in which he's blowing his butt off and gives credibility to the rumors that before he hit paydirt with this song he was giving Charlie Parker a good run for his money at Mintons !
@NickJohan There's a great album of him playing straight Jazz called JAZZ AS I FEEL IT... He's really blowing like mad on that one. I wonder if any of the clowns that ridiculed him for playing for the people ever got cut by him or if he just laughed it off.
I am in heaven listening to this sax....It really is the best instrument .....Listen to that awesome sound......and the beat of the drummer keeping everything up to par.....oh yeah, this is my kind of music. I am lovin' it. Nothing like a well-played sax.....just like this one......WTG!!!!
GREAT......this 78 must have been the one played the most times during the intervals at WOOD GREEN JAZZ CLUB in the early 50s. it was probably the number that took my interest, thankfully, away from the limitations of "Trad" jazz..
I listen to jazz music every day,I keep finding something new for me,on U TUBE thanks!
Thanks grandad35. Best sax man ever. Wish someone would put Bostic's Getting Sentimental Over You on here. Best slow dance number ever. Saw him once in Maryland. Memorable
