  • I love this song! A Fan 4 Life From East St. Louis!!!!!

  • Dancing to this at my wedding with my mommy!

  • As grown as I am..sometimes i wish someone could do all this for me.

  • this was my JAM!!!! AND MAN, did i want that haircut at the time...HA!

  • In ALL my years of growing up. There were a few things that I NEVER realized, understood, or maybe even thought of UNTIL, until Loosing My Mother. Something's she would say or do, I didn't quite grasp the meaning, or even realize the sacrifices she made, the pain she went thru to see me or one of my brothers suffer from pain or disappointment. The TOTAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE that you can only get from a parent. Especially a Mother.

  • where are the lyrics??????

  • wow i haven't heard this song for more then 20 yrs maybe a little more. never saw the video. my 5th grade teacher gave this song to all my classmates and me as well. on the last day of school. i can't remeber what i did with my tape of the song. but i still remeber the song title.i just started to remeber the song. thanks for posting the song. brings alot of memories for me.

  • @fearqueen27 oopps i just notice i put 20 years lol sorry about that . well it's almost... almost... been about that much. i'm guessing about 15 r 16 yrs.

  • thanks for this request ellie!

  • now this is the a soul singer is suppose to sing start real smooth and then belt it out you go girl

  • Wow.This is like a love letter in song to the ghetto children.Shit.why didn't i notice this when this was first popular? I'm so moved.

  • @kaliyuta It'sobviously a song for most anyone. Hard lives and problem are had by not only ghetto children.

  • @kaliyuta well said

  • I used to play this song for my baby daughter when she came in the world. She is 16 now and when she gets home today, I will reintroduce her to it. Thanks for sharing this.

  • for my baby. She is hurting right now!

  • such a beautiful song...OMG!!!!

  • jesus ,:) i love her voice amazing.

  • This is a beautiful song,It makes me think of my son he is 2 now it took us 10 years to have him and he is just so special to us! Andrew was a gift from God.

  • A BEAUTIFUL SONG REGINA BELL AND PHYLLISS HYMAN DID NOT GET THE CREDIT THEY DESERVE

  • LOL Those were the days when kids actually went outside and were active. If they were to make a video like this now in 2010, wouldn't be any kids outside playing basketball, dancing and everything. They'd show regina singin, then when they cut to the kids, they'd just be at home, on facebook or playing PS3.

  • This song makes me cry thinking about my babies especially when she says:

I would try to shield your innocence from time, but the part of life I gave you isn't mine, I'll watch you grow, so I can let you go....beautiful song!

  • ohyeah, 209esperanza let love and let go, and the innocent one is free as a bird, to come and go and think as they please.. freeebirds all.. tears tears~ x(Dc):

  • THE GRATITUDE ISI JUST CAN'T SAY THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR POSTING THIS SONG

  • This song touches the heart!! She's awesome!!

  • Jesus...this song just made me cry yet again...it makes me think of my Grandma...I know that if you could cry my tears, I know you would...May God keep your soul in peace Grandma, I love you!

  • A simply beautiful song, with excellent lyrics that expresses every parent's true feelings and hopes for their kids. God bless you Regina, a beautiful, talented woman with a beautiful voice and there is no one who can sing like you. Many imitators, but never any duplicators.

  • you can forget its not only for the parents!!

  • I had not heard this song in years.

  • Why do you show in parenthesis (with Lyrics) if you do have them?

  • @Lady42LinLoe I have it in parenthesis because it is not the title of the song but only a feature of the video!!!!!

  • happy mother's day again, moms!

  • I remember when this song first came out. My mother use to sing this song to me. I did not understand it back then. I so get it now. Thanks ma for everything and thank you GOD for choosing her to be my mommy.

  • another master piece from Ms Belle. "If I could" and "Make it like it was" just gives me the shivers. So much emotion, you feel every note like a punch in the gut. I refer to her as Ms Belle because she deserves much more attention then she gets. I can't name a vocalist who is better, maybe equal but not better. Regina Belle, you are a shinning star.

  • my mom used to sing this to me and i would cry. lol... love this song. brings back good memories.

  • What an amazing star -- Regina Bell! The first time I heard this was by a little girl named Jessica Wilson on a broadcast celebrating the Apollo theater. I wonder whatever happened to her. She moved my soul! She was copying Regina Bell's version (this one). Both artists stole a piece of my heart with this song.

  • This is beautiful song.

  • so beautiful. this is a real classic (she sounds like natalie cole from time to time in the song)

  • lnikninunhuityhrty

  • The lyrics tell it all. Thank you Regina for your beautiful voice and choosing to give us this tune. I always cry when I hear this song because this is a song that to me is the best of the best for a "Mother's Day" song. My mother passed away a few years ago and I really miss her.

  • beautiful song...

  • Another great RBelle melody!!!!!!!

  • i lov this song it moves soul

  • love this song!!!!

  • my mother wanted this sung at her funeral... we all got mad when she said it....i never even considered she would die one day..i guess it was her way of telling us how it feels to be a mother...i understand now exactly how she must have felt

  • I would love to dedicate this song to my children...if i had any.

  • i think mary j. blidge would make a nice cover to this song

  • For my grandma...dedicated to my late uncle... :.(..

  • My mom used to dedicate this song to us. It is still very hard to listen to it without crying. Regina Belle did this song justice. I love Nancy Wilson's version also.

  • Bitch take a seat you synical whore.

  • Beautiful song. It always gets to me and being a mother...it means even more.

  • My mother sang and dedicated this song to me during her one woman show in NYC. All I could do was sit at the table in the audience and cry...face in hands!

  • classic.

  • I've loved this song for so many years!

  • GORGEOUS !

  • just like "you're the best thing" (gladys knight) I dedicate this song to my daughter and to all the children of single hardworking parents.

  • THIS SONG MAKES ME SO EMOTIONAL

  • i dedicated this song to my oldest daughter. she is suffering now with her own children and i feel very deeply for her.... this songs says it all.. god bless all our children

  • @babbles2be Why is she suffering with children? She shouldn't have had them if she wasn't ready.

  • @bluscorpion- that was not necessary at all keep what u have to say to yourself if it isn't kind! = (

  • For my 3 sons...when I'm long gone. If I Could...if only I could. I love you guys!

  • MJ, If I could, I would have suffered the heartbreak u had that assisted in creating a prescription drug habit. Its too late now. I pray u peace. RIP MJ our King of POP

  • I always loved this song. Listening to this song now, after I've given birth to a beautiful little girl, it resonates with me so much more deeply. A love unable to be fully expressed...

  • My mom always played this in the car when she drove me to my dad for me to spend the summer with my dad. I'd always cry in the back seat while both sang it. Ah memories I still get tears with this song it's so inspirtaional. <3

  • Me too... it's inspirational... it's touching.... it tells everything a mother wants to do for her child... that's why I love my mama soo much

  • This is one of my most fav songs! Deep...so so deep! Got to love the children!

  • I think anyone who sees the beauty in children's innocence could appreciate this song. =]

It's beautiful, and I wish that people didn't have to hurt but we all hurt to some extent at some time in our lives.

  • I dedicated this to my son when he was 3 years old, I don't think there is nothing a mother would not do for her child, this song moves me beyond words. I love you my son.

  • this songs is for you Julia my baby girl. if i could i will teach you all the things i never learned.

mama Loves you so very much you are true gife from god.

  • this song is the best song ever in old skool my mom used to sing it 2 me when i was younger than i sung it at the twitter center for my high school graduation and it still is hottttt

  • Oh my mom used to sing this to me too!

  • i remember the first time i saw her perform this, it was on general hospital in the early 80s at tanias funeral, i balled so much. then when my kids were born i thought of this song and what i want to protect them from. it always brings tears to my eyes.

Geop, King and J.B forever R.O.B

  • she sure did. she has a good voice. its just that something is off. whitney is able to hold longer notes with that punching bag-like vibrato. she was something else. regina was standard. anyway, this song will get you when you go through some things. my wishes goes out to all of those in pain. weve cried together

  • i love this song

  • this past year i had a hard time with my diabetes and my mom played this song for me and we cried and cried.

  • Regine is my all time favorite singer. I have a 14 year old daughter, and i would if i could do anything possible to make her life wonderful, filled with love and happiness.

  • Taken from Regina`s Cd "One Love"

A wonderful selection of soulful tracks on it :D

  • That's so sweet of you to sing that to her. I was at a graduation and a girl sung this song to her mom and I fell in love with this song.

  • My daughter is turning 18 this year. I am going to sing it for her birthday.

  • A love only a mother can give.....This is what is meant by this song

  • Her voice is so beautiful; it is perfect!

  • she is so underrated. her voice is satin beauty. listen to after the love has lost its shine. perfection

  • She got lost in the Whitney Houston era.

WITH MEANING!

  • thank you for this song, its just make you really understand that you have to let your children go at some point ,what a hard reality to accept

  • R.I.P. Faith Clemmon

  • Nice tune, I wonder if u can get hold of (Be in love again) by Regina. Can't find it nwhere. Nice collection u got there.lol

  • Who is Regina? I don't know her! I've asked my friends and chat mates about her; but unfortunately they don't know her either!

  • Ever heard of google?

  • Funny. I feel exactly the opposite. Streisand's not the first voice that comes to my mind when I think of soul or emotion. But to each their own.

  • this is how i feel about my son...

  • It makes me think of the world my children are growing up in. They need lots and lots of love to prepare them.. The song is timeless.

  • Evlin Lebreault,

If you would only open up to me,

place your heart in my hands along with mine and trust me, together we can accomplish everything together.

If you would only let me ....

    M.C.Mays Pulliam 2009

  • It's too bad she wasn't more popular in her day!!

  • Music was still segregated back then.

  • This song is simply beautiful!

  • She looks gorgeous!

  • Im not a mom and i feel the power and love in those words!

  • I agree with everyone here. I saw her sing this at The Apollo. A woman beside me gave me a tissue for my tears. My son was only 15-16 at the time. Very moving, deep lyrics.

  • i love the song but that edward scissors hand outfit has to go..lol...

  • wow this brings back memories my mother would ALWAYS sing this to my brother and me. i cant wait until i have a family and im singing it to my children one day :)

may your noble spirit watch over the younger children of today. we love you darling and we wish you could be with us today

    au revoir darling...au revoir

  • Very nice lady. I met her in Gtown-DC, blues alley

  • I used to always love this song growing up when I was a child but it wasn't until I had my one year old daughter that I understood what it meant,

Thank you regina for encouragement for the future on when to step back and when to step in.

  • Verses like this:If I knew......

I would have tried to change the place I brought you to.

Now there isn't much more that I can do.

But I would if I could...

Is why we should be better people now - so we don't have to say that...

  • 'This song is so poignant and beautiful.

I get chills when I listen to it. It just touches me so, the lyrics and the fabulous Regina Belle

  • Beautiful sentiments. Thinking of my kids and Katie and Kassie with much love.

  • I miss songs like this....I sat looking at the screen at least 2 mins. after the song went off just thinking about it

  • Awesome song!

  • this song is STILL beautiful.

  • Hi Zeniquez,

Thanks for posting this video. I've heard many versions of this Ray Charles song but even his version isn't as good as Regina's and yet Céline Dion, Barbra Streisand have sung it, but none as well as Régina. Gladys Knight's version ain't bad. Still, my heart only beats for Regina's version. So Thank you for this beautiful gift.

    WAKA

  • @wakaleheza

I agree, this is the best of the best. You can tell, she put her heart, soul and mind into singing this tune. Many may record it but I only hear the true meaning when REGINA sings.

  • This sony is truly a classic. I think of my children everytime I hear it.

  • FABULOUS!!!!!!

  • Regina babeeeeeeee......beautiful, senuous, ,mellow and soulful. Thank you and god bless you and your family. And thanks for sharing this Zen. A true CLASSIC!!

  • YES I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!1

  • How have I never heard of Regina before ? Found her from a link from Oleta Adams ! I`ve now just bought her "Best of " CD.

    Fantastic and very moving !

  • I'm very happy that you discovered her. She's amazing

  • Very moving song by such a gifted and beautiful artist. What a gorgeous voice: husky, sensuous, powerful. Great class and pathos! Also, listen to 'Baby come to me': to die for! What a uniquely talented Lady! Thank you! Love from Brussels, Belgium and bless America the Beautiful.

  • thank you for posting this, apparently my mom would play it when I was just born and yet I some how remember it.

  • I danced with my father at my wedding to this song. I did not want the traditional "Daddy's Little Girl" It was a dance with my father I will never forget. I dont think he forgets it either. He was dissapointed at first that I chose something other than Daddy's Little Girl but when he heard this song there was no regrets.

  • I'm still in love with Regina Belle

  • Ofcourse, you can never fall out of love with Regina Belle
