I really do hope that Zelda does not become completely technology driven though like in this theory. I am fine with a blend of both fantasy type middle aged settings as well as a bit of a mixture of machinery like Skyward but not 100% of the game should be in high tech areas. It is just not Zelda to me and would be a drastic contrast to what I know as a Nintendo fan who likes the series.
I think it might be heading in that direction since Majora's Mask. In Majora's Mask you had more advanced areas like water treatment facility of sorts. In Spirit Tracks you had trains and tanks as well as other machinery. In Skyward Sword there are timeshift stones in the desert region that alters the terrain to make parts of the region look like it did in the past and some of it was pretty advanced like floating mine carts, robots, and even a full fledged factory.
I would NOT want to see a futuristic Zelda game. Period. I thought Skyward Sword was pushing it with the Timeshift Stone stuff. I mean come on, rockets? Robots?
Gotta be honest, though the idea would be unique, I would rather not see a futuristic Zelda game. THe reason being is that the old world charm that I've grown used to gives a magical feel to the series, where as with the future, where everything is all technological, it wouldn't be the same.

This is aweful! The conceptual art is way off. This is supposed to be futuristic Hyrule not New York. I realize this is a prank but this game should and will be made eventually. This is not the way to do it. Hyrule is a completely different cultural with a different set of physical laws from earth on a different planet in another universe. Let the game developer treat it as such.

If it were to change its setting into a futuristic type style, it would still feel like a Zelda game if they kept the core game mechanics. Final Fantasy did that, and it still felt like Final Fantasy. Futuristic could work for Zelda because it's still fantasy, and Zelda has always been a fantasy game.

@chimera5x2 That is the point I am making, yes. Magic cannot exist in a purely cyberpunk world like the one being presented here. Elements from both fantasy and cyberpunk can coexist in a game, but that game would no longer be pure fantasy or pure cyberpunk - it would be something else entirely.

I really hope that Nintendo don't decide to actually do something like this. Personally, I'm hoping for another continuity reboot, as there hasn't been one in the main series in bloody ages. Ocarina of Time has 5 sequels and it's about to get a prequel, so I really think that version of Hyrule has had enough attention.
@transform5656 i don't think it would be a reboot. the Zelda games tend the jump a little forward or backward in the canon tmeline. it's never the same Link, so this wouldn't harm the established canon.

Its fun to look back on this now that we know skyward sword is the next title. Back when I first saw this I thought it was real but people disproved this in the comments. This will most likely never happen. A large part of zelda is its 1400's feel with the castles and villages and stuff. However, Link is the Hero of Time. Each game IS connected in one way or another, with the exception of an elite few, which probably still are but it is and likely will remain a mystery where they "link" in. (PUN).
Anyways, It is theoretically possible for the legend to extend into a futuristic landscape. However, I rather doubt this.
Although this idea is absolutely terrible, does anybody else see how this could end up colliding with the star wars saga? i mean, it's really not that hard to believe. i'm not a huge fan of star wars, but thinking of modernized zelda just leads to star wars for me.

This is probably part of the Valley of the Flood rumor that went off a long time ago. Awesome thoughts, but I don't think so. If you thought this was real, you've got no faith in Nintendo, and I can't blame you, but at least know that Miyamoto would never do this to his favorite character. (Argue all you want. The fact that he's not milking Link for all he's worth is proof Link is one of his favorites, and I believe Link is his number one. You never know. Resembles him as a boy, after all.
It would be cool if they did something like this, like the hero is FROM the future but the sages call apon him to go back to the past to help save them.

I wouldn't have a problem with this as long as they promise another LoZ that is more traditional styled to be released around the same time. maybe Nintendo could allow another company, like square enix, to work on it for a bit, just as an experiment, and if it looks like something not completely half assed and actually looks like alot of fun to play, then they could carry it out.

Its fun to look back on this now that we know skyward sword is the next title. Back when I first saw this I thought it was real but people disproved this in the comments. Although its fake I don't think it would be that bad of an idea as long and all the characters are there and you still use a sword.

This is needed to keep the Zelda franchise to keep going, how much longer can the franchise survive with the Ocarina like skin on the core Zelda gameplay. People sooner or later will get tired of the same basic game, we need something like this to keep the franchise alive

This will most likely never happen. A large part of zelda is its 1400's feel with the castles and villages and stuff. However, Link is the Hero of Time. Each game IS connected in one way or another, with the exception of an elite few, which probably still are but it is and likely will remain a mystery where they "link" in. (PUN).
Anyways, It is theoretically possible for the legend to extend into a futuristic landscape. However, I rather doubt this.

This is probably part of the Valley of the Flood rumor that went off a long time ago. Awesome thoughts, but I don't think so. If you thought this was real, you've got no faith in Nintendo, and I can't blame you, but at least know that Miyamoto would never do this to his favorite character. (Argue all you want. The fact that he's not milking Link for all he's worth is proof Link is one of his favorites, and I believe Link is his number one. You never know. Resembles him as a boy, after all.

I wouldn't have a problem with this as long as they promise another LoZ that is more traditional styled to be released around the same time. maybe Nintendo could allow another company, like square enix, to work on it for a bit, just as an experiment, and if it looks like something not completely half assed and actually looks like alot of fun to play, then they could carry it out.

well to me this would be the ultimate distruction of zelda, why well guns in zelda...... that would not fit, zelda has always been a game with magic the triforce and swords. this would ruïn that, I would NOT accept this as a zelda game. the only thing i'd like is that link get's a light saber
