If you own a ps2 and can still find Yakuza 1 & 2 lying around in stores then most definetly get them.

But in Yakuza 4 there is a option which fills you in on what happened in Yakuza 1 & 2 with cut-scenes.

So there is no real need to get the earlier games.

I used to play Yakuza the first one on ps2 and I really loved it, although its only walking and fighting same ways, just different people and sometimes those i fought with look the same. I stopped playing this and returned the game when I went to a stage that I could not beat. It was when I entered that martial arts school at night, it was owned by an evil boss or something, dont remember.. but damn Yakuza looks really great!!! Yakuza = Kazuya

It's cool because it's yakuza, about a guy who beats the shit out of people with his fists and the environment not all guns. Though guns are there, they are limited. This game isn't good because it's about yakuza, it's the amazing characters that you end up falling in love with.

@hellscreamWC3 the problem probably would have been some minigames that'd be hard to sell to foreign gamers who wouldnt understand it. (who knows mahjong for example..) I would have loved to play it , but I am really happy I can have at least yakuza3, and that they added the stories as clips for beginners is supersweet inmo.
