i find it funny how her live performances of we belong together in 2009 - 2010 are almost completely live whereas when the song was big it was just Mimimg McMime Mime.

Fly Like a Bird's verses are live, but when the belting first begins it's lipped to the studio version. Parts of the Fly Like a Bird belting is live, but only the "easier" belting, all the whistle's and high whispering is lipped.
If you really listen to just the audio, and not watch it, you can tell.

In the 90's she was flawless and delivered vocals that were often better than the studio version, but that was a long time ago. The voice changes with time and use, it goes deeper as you get older, explaining why Mariah has lost some clarity in her upper chest register, and it becomes tired and distended with use (the whistle register takes its toll).
@MrJudube I was watching some kind of vocal program on here where at one point a specialist began talking about the different registers and brought up Mariah, stating that whilst having the whistle register is very rare and beautiful, it is also dangerous to the voice because there is no right way to access it. I think he said something about it being to do with the vocal chords vibrating too fast (which is plausible).

I don't know where i read that Mariah is one of the biggest passive sellers. She doesn't need a lot of promo or radio support to have people buy her records. She would be even bigger if they played her a bit more. Even if people don't hear her much they still know she is one of the greatest. One of my best friends is a huge Madonna fan and he told me the other day "I know Mariah is musically better".

this is 100% live, the nodules only make it difficult for her to sing in the middle range, the other parts are just perfect. Yeah she does lip sync in some performance, but who doesn't for the sake of their voices

this is 100% live, the nodules only make it difficult for her to sing in the middle range, the other parts are just perfect. Yeah she does lip sync in some performance, but who doesn't for the sake of their voices

omg for real people come on lip sing or not its still her singing its her voice she can still really hit them notes in real life how many people u know can do that even still at her age i dont believe she is lip singing cuz u can really see it in the video she is great i love her so much yes mariahs voice will sound lower at times but come on people she tries to belt them songs over n over in the recording studio to get it perfect for us and it pays off cuz we get something great every album

Shes older, she did quite of bit of damage to her voice singing like that for so many years... all them high notes, belting, whispers is NOT good for your voice even WITH having had a 5 octave range. for me its totally live...even at the end u can her the raspness in her voice, that she didnt used to have till 2009, when her voice came back..Live or not, who cares?After seeing her singing ABMB again (and this one was live) my year is done...Keep on going Mariah..i hope hear HATEU on radios soon.

It's live from the beginning until the second chorus, but the last chorus was pre-recorded for sure. I always defend Mariah when haters said it wrong about a real live performance, but for this time, it's obviously lipsynched, darling...

trust me...thats why mariah is such a smart woman when it comes to preserving her voice. many artists do it..but mariah is diffrent..she pre records raw versions of high parts in studio then either lips to it, or sings along to it live..she did that here..the belted ending is not live at all. but she could have did it live if she was up to it...just not the EXACT SAME as the relativity performance or the canadian idol performance.

@gordon051291 and if she sang it differently every time , which would be impossible to do , but still sang it amazingly well se'd be accused of lip singing , it is a lot easier to hold a note and belt a note than is it to sing quietly and controlled , she will always sound amazing belting and holding notes and near perfect i.e sounding like its pre recorded , simply because vocally its the easiest part of a song
