Jumping off either feet is really a matter of comfortability. Some people jump higher off of one foot for the reason that it is a lay up motion and they are used to it. Other people like the confront and stability of jumping off 2 (myself included.) I am 6 foot 1, and I dunked one time in a competitive game off 1 foot and finished with 2 hands, which was so stupid b/c i almost killed myself on the way down. In warm ups i like going off of 2. I know we're talking basketball, which is a REAL sport, but the volleyball approach to an attack is the best way to practice two foot jump. not entirely true. squats are a static lift and only work your quads. You need to do power cleans, jerks, and snatches. these are explosive lifts (as opposed to static) and they work the hips and the quads. jump squats and box squats with less weight are better than super heavy slow squats
