Regarding the Toyota recall, the defective pedal is made by CTS, an American company. CTS has released a statement saying they do not believe their design is at fault, and adding that none of their pedals are in Toyota vehicles prior to 2005. Oddly enough, the recall is for 2005 and newer vehicles, so I'm not sure what CTS's point is. I think Toyota is playing along with this to avoid trade conflicts but in the end it will hurt them if they do not set things straight.

It's all about competition, control and trying to be the best at things Demcad. If you think about it, that's how American society is. We all try to outdo one another instead of working together. Obama announced this nuclear energy plan after an "infidel" nation like Iran is making strides toward nuclear power..or is at least equipped to do so. Furthermore, I honestly doubt Iran is being mischievous with their strides toward nuclear power. I have no solutions for nuclear waste, but we have nuclear power where I live (just under the snow belt in Ohio). My average bill is 170 a month including heat, set on 77. In the summer its 70. I have lived in other places and paid more for gas than the rent. I'm pretty impressed with it, if only we can find something to do with the byproducts... maybe put it in toothpaste. ;)

Nuclear Waste: There are new processes that are being investigated to neutralize nuclear waste... i.e. speed up the half life by bombarding the waste with neutrons; so that, the irradiated material will fission to inert elements.
I read somewhere that France imports our nuclear waste, and somehow reprocesses a good amount of it back into usable fuel and sends it back to the US.

On Topic of Nuclear Plants in the US, No I do not believe they should be built, they take like 10 years or so to be built, always cost more than estimated, and take decades to even make up for what they cost, to show any profit they have to be subsidized, which means more taxes, and this doesn't even address the problem with nuclear waste. when you crunch the numbers, Nuke plants are a money pit. of course they make some people rich, but we end up paying.

It's not the wages, it's all the regulations, taxes and other costs that come with employment. In today's highly mechanized manufacturing, employee salary just isn't that big of a deal. When a company cites labor costs, they aren't really referring to an hourly salary difference.

oil isn't used for electricity in the US. We have fusion bombs but it takes a fission bomb to set the fusion bomb off. Solar, wind and geothermal are the future. As for nuclear energy, it take a great deal of FF energy to mine and process nuclear fuel and being from PA, I remember all too well the 3 mile island mess (I was around 10YO at the time) and wouldn't want another one. OTOH, more people die from coal every year than the history of nuclear electricity.
I think you underestimate the amount of spent nuclear fuel in the US and that it can't be just stacked in a pile or warehouse. Also, there isn't that much Uranium in the world.
@eurohim not true,most spent rods are stored on site because of shipping regulations.the undergroung storage,i think its in wyoming or someplace out west is massive.the entire operation of disposal and storage is hugly expensive.and will offset any energy savings when the plants come online.
I do not have the numbers in front of me, but I remember a study done, that if we replaced all the energy we get from Oil, with that of nukes, the world supply of Uranium would be depleted in less than 10 years. plus you would need like 10,000 new nuclear plants. each plant cost Billions to make, and when you factor in all the costs, actually lose money, clean energy sources are a lot cheaper per Kilowatt. heck even Geothermal is a better option.

I like geothermal, that technology has advanced a lot, even though the US really hasn't put much research ( Other countries have ) I do not think there will be just 1 solution to energy, some areas can harness ocean currents, other have plenty of Solar, I also like those neat Sterling Solar Generators, we have plenty of empty deserts with lots of free sunlight. the technology exists, but special interest groups lobby for traditional obsolete solutions.

dude try looking into grain storage sometime. That bag is a uv barrier. Not a good place to keep it, but I dont suppose he has much of a choice. If you eat from the bag and buy another constantly cycling would be fine. But rice and grains have been stored from years before freezers were invented.

Regarding the Toyota recall, the defective pedal is made by CTS, an American company. CTS has released a statement saying they do not believe their design is at fault, and adding that none of their pedals are in Toyota vehicles prior to 2005. Oddly enough, the recall is for 2005 and newer vehicles, so I'm not sure what CTS's point is. I think Toyota is playing along with this to avoid trade conflicts but in the end it will hurt them if they do not set things straight.

Israelis have benefited from technological leak to build their nuclear armament (they already have one) and the US have shielded them from nuclear inspections. It is a reality.

Furthermore, I honestly doubt Iran is being mischievous with their strides toward nuclear power. They, like other nations, are realizing that carbon based fuels(oil, natural gas..etc) are not the future anymore and the supply is quickly running out. I applaud their efforts. Dealing with the by radioactive byproducts is a whole different issue though. It's a serious environmental issue. The gamma rays etc emmitted from that stuff will give you cancer in a heartbeat.

This is one side of the issue: Iranians try to secure their energy future when they can. If they dont do it now, while they have still something valuable to bargain, they will be unable to achieve. I cant blame them for not believing that if they dont do it now, when they are out of oil, nuclear energy will be offered to them for having played by the rules.
But I am less convinced that Iranians are not interested in nuclear bombs. Not to bomb around, they will be outpowered fast.

I have no solutions for nuclear waste, but we have nuclear power where I live (just under the snow belt in Ohio). My average bill is 170 a month including heat, set on 77. In the summer its 70. I have lived in other places and paid more for gas than the rent. I'm pretty impressed with it, if only we can find something to do with the byproducts... maybe put it in toothpaste. ;)

Nuclear Waste: There are new processes that are being investigated to neutralize nuclear waste... i.e. speed up the half life by bombarding the waste with neutrons; so that, the irradiated material will fission to inert elements.

Nuclear power is a good idea. It will create home grown jobs, provide clean energy, and probably lower our energy cost. We should have never stopped building nuclear plants but since we did many countries have an edge on us. After the Manhattan project movie (and real abuses) plus the Russian meltdown it gives nuclear power a bad name. All we need now is electric vehicles and we have a much more efficient society that won't have to depend on middle east oil.

On Topic of Nuclear Plants in the US, No I do not believe they should be built, they take like 10 years or so to be built, always cost more than estimated, and take decades to even make up for what they cost, to show any profit they have to be subsidized, which means more taxes, and this doesn't even address the problem with nuclear waste. when you crunch the numbers, Nuke plants are a money pit. of course they make some people rich, but we end up paying.

Don't get me wrong, I do not agree with everything Israel does, but they do have the right to defend themselves, and If Iran develops nuclear weapons, or tries to, I am almost certain they will use preemptive strikes against Iran, I hope that the US stays out of that mess, personally I can't wait till the world runs short on Oil, and we move to self sustained alternatives. its the only way we can get back on our feet again as a nation.

The US will developp other energy games once oil is finished.
Israel leaked the nuclear bomb to South Africa under the apartheid.
Both nations did not go around claiming that they were going to bomb the whole world because they couldnt afford the move.

They have closed some wind generator plants here in Arkansas and sending the work to china-one plant lost over 800 ppl...Even the green jobs go to china..the pay scale is way off--the ppl of china need to demand more money,or something..If all of the industrial jobs go to red china what do we have to farming--how can we compete with communist labor.

It's not the wages, it's all the regulations, taxes and other costs that come with employment. In today's highly mechanized manufacturing, employee salary just isn't that big of a deal. When a company cites labor costs, they aren't really referring to an hourly salary difference.

oil isn't used for electricity in the US. We have fusion bombs but it takes a fission bomb to set the fusion bomb off. Solar, wind and geothermal are the future. As for nuclear energy, it take a great deal of FF energy to mine and process nuclear fuel and being from PA, I remember all too well the 3 mile island mess (I was around 10YO at the time) and wouldn't want another one. OTOH, more people die from coal every year than the history of nuclear electricity.

I think you underestimate the amount of spent nuclear fuel in the US and that it can't be just stacked in a pile or warehouse. Also, there isn't that much Uranium in the world.

@eurohim not true,most spent rods are stored on site because of shipping regulations.the undergroung storage,i think its in wyoming or someplace out west is massive.the entire operation of disposal and storage is hugly expensive.and will offset any energy savings when the plants come online.

I do not have the numbers in front of me, but I remember a study done, that if we replaced all the energy we get from Oil, with that of nukes, the world supply of Uranium would be depleted in less than 10 years. plus you would need like 10,000 new nuclear plants. each plant cost Billions to make, and when you factor in all the costs, actually lose money, clean energy sources are a lot cheaper per Kilowatt. heck even Geothermal is a better option.

I like geothermal, that technology has advanced a lot, even though the US really hasn't put much research ( Other countries have ) I do not think there will be just 1 solution to energy, some areas can harness ocean currents, other have plenty of Solar, I also like those neat Sterling Solar Generators, we have plenty of empty deserts with lots of free sunlight. the technology exists, but special interest groups lobby for traditional obsolete solutions.
