This is not the real first sleeper kill. Check your facts. 3 guilds. Ascending Dawn, Magus Imperialis Magicus, and Wudan took it down first on Rallos Zek server. The first attempt was the notorious SOE intervention.
i still think its insane that this happened,considering that it was NEVER SUPPOSED TO DIE but sort of did being that when this happened what i heard was that the programmers de-spawned it to avoid its death. but in the end of the day hat off to those who managed to more than hold their own against him. and i agree with talthan i miss the laughs i had with my old guild (i was also on rallos zek server).good times
@c1oudstr1fe1888 your about half correct. they didn't design him to be killed but back in those days NPC's wern't programmed with the invul code. also they didn't despawn the sleeper unless the people who woke him could not take him down. but everquest will always remain my favorite game ever!

I guess most people forget that the first real attempt to kill the dragon failed even though it included 3 of the most powerful clans in the game and when they got them down to 22%, the dragon de-spawned, literally disappearing?
@Spocky730 I guess that you forgot that the only reason why they failed is because Sony stepped in, blamed the fact that they were actually close to defeating it on a bug involving an NPC, and then reset the encounter. They would likely have succeeded had Sony not sabotaged the effort. ;)

if I recall years ago, Kerafyrm was there but originally never suppose to be defeated, when he was killed the one time by exploits, he supposely dropped nothing which was an indication he was never to be defeated as they never put a loot table on him.

well done i qiut the game after 9 years after game end on this expansion but its still fun to rember.i must say i do like there tactics better than the way we fought it we did him right out in the arena

We Killed the sleeper Kerafyrm on Marr Server November 4th 2003 took 97people raid to take this sob down about half the raid wiped (58) out of (39) survived I was on em,Barely lived through it 5 min into the fight about 2 full groups completely wiped out from his AOE double damage rampage spell not counting his harsh Damage over time spells he used, took us 38 min to kill him

I remember a guild on the Rathe being the first to ever wake the sleeper in 2001 ish. They the sleeper went from zone to zone killing everyone until a GM despawned him. I remember getting death touched from across the zone and took a screenie. Good times.

original sleeper was intentionally unkill able. programmed that way on purpose. When Sony bought out EQ, they didn't understand what they had on their hands and focused on equipment based content. they focused too much on the "final quest" being some almost unattainable with the current game status. they had to rush something out to compete with other games. gm's were known to despawn the sleeper so guilds couldn't fight it.

But the Sleeper isn't the real Sleeper though. Due to unkown reasons, it's dmg and HPs are lower then normal Sleeper.
I am one of the player on that server, and I knew some of their guildies too. In fact, they didn't put any hope to kill this guy, but found out they can chain rez and zerg him later.

Brotherhood of the Spider on The Rathe server was the first guild to awaken the sleeper. I know this cuz that's the server I played on. I later joined BotS and was with them thru PoP- till a bit after OoW came out.
Some of the best raiding experiences I ever did were in EQ. WoW can't even compare.
I was online when he died , we had 28 extra chat channels full going on our server listening in on the combat,, Talk about chills watching this now. And of all the servers to take him down it was the PVP server lol ,, you guys rocked him ,, good job. Loved EQ , 80 monk Jexy Fearsome /wave Conviction

Yea it was such a big deal when Kerafym died first on RALLOS Zek not Zek, that it was in a major gaming magazine. Ascending Dawn, Wuhan, one other major guild and a several misc guilds guilds where the ones who got her done. Ahh the good ol days.

Chinese Server did get the first Kera kill, whether weaker or stronger, they did down it before the North American Server.
The real Kerafyrm was killed in North America first, and it does matter the stats of the creature. If it was not for GM's kicking out Afterlife, they would of had the first kill.
There were emu servers where people killed Kerafyrm in one hit because they made him weaker or them super powerful... would you count that as the first kill then? According to your logic, the emu servers would have the first kill...
A kill is a kill, no matter its stats. Sony's Chinese server did down it before the NA Sony server. If you go by emu servers, I am sure there were some out there that downed Kera prior to the live servers, but show me where its identified that they did.

Druzzil Ro didn't kill the sleeper. You Only Got One Shot To Kill Him, then he despawned. Forever. One of the Zek servers killed him, using crazily-coordinated organization. The battle was long, and many people lost many levels, but pressed on.
As for this video - It's from a very old private server. China didn't do shit. This server ras running EQEmu because EQEmu was the only emulator capable of running a classic server, provided you had a very very early version from the EQTrilogy era.
Ok can anyone explain how the warder even spawns? If this footage is legit and all, that means this fight lasted a week and they took Sleeper down 13% with warders on them. Unless they somehow managed to wait 6 days and like 20 hours without Sleeper tearing apart the whole world, it's BS.
if you look, you can see the last warders corpse in the wall, the one that would have been killed to make sleeper spawn, from the looks of it they left one up for an entire spawn cycle, then did the fight, mid way through the fight the other warders start to spawn.
you can play classic eq for free now.. you just need titanium edition. ($20 if you wanted to actually pay for it)... pwnedemudotcom. i played it for 3 weeks and had to uninstall because it was taking over my life again.
Especially notable is the miraculous respawn during the fight. All 4 dragons have to be dead at the same time. And they had a week long respawn timer, right? Eh, doesn't matter now.
Didnt really matter tho..once all 4 were dead that was it, they never repoped ever again...When guilds where farming primals they would only kill 3 out of the 4 and wait a week..thats why there are no new Mask of Tinkerings..they no longer drop since none of the 4 org dragons repop...I have Screen shots of Sleeper ripping threw Skyshrine on TP when Interpid woke him up...was funny as hell!
EQ > than WoW... unfortunately that's not what the history.. FAQs... will say.
EQ has so much content it's overwhelming if you haven't been playing 10 years. It looks better and has better environments, story, and character. EQ is actually memorable, but still classic.
the ONLY thing WoW has going for it is a better tuned UI and a more action-oriented setup.
I think I'd still hold asheron's call over both... just because it had a fully open world... it was a bit lonely though.

AFAIK - sleeper,that was on chinese server was hiting for only 2k ,instead of 7k like it used to be on others servers. To make it clear: November 17, 2003, 9 pm pacific ,Rallos Zek server - Sleeper was killed by : Ascending Dawn, Wudan and Magus Imperialis Magicus. No loot, 30 sec corpse despawn timer. Faction: Sleeper- Claws of Veeshan+ Ring of Scale+.
I was online for that doing LDoN raids. The serverwide emote is proof enough to me to congrats Rallos Zek. Even if it's a few years late. =] I've also heard that on some asian server they exploited somehow and GM's spawned the warders manually. Go fig.
For those arguing about which is better between WoW and EQ.I played EQ from launch to 2005 and played WoW for 3 years. I loved both games, met people that I DO care about even though I no longer play either. (Just recently had to quit wow)but I have to say I find myself feeling more nostalgic about classic eq(hence the reason i come to youtube to watch old raids)I had a bard 65,monk 65, and shaman 60 on Quellious server. I had a 70 hunter on Blackrock. Just sorry, i no longer have the time 2play
I'm from Quellious as well! I ended up transferring to be on Karana with friends. But I played a monk, paladin, druid, and mage. Yarhar (yes worst name ever for a guy with an eyepatch lol), Logfrok (the froglok), Juggjuggs (a GM forced me to change it to Duggduggs later), and Geaux.
I really wish any game could be that much fun again. WoW is a good MMO, but did it do what this game did? Not even close. WoW is good, but I miss playing a game like this but know i can't go back to those times.
They didnt even show him dieing. First kill wasn't a chinese server anyways. it was intereped, thoulxe palles server. And thier guild got disbanded for it.
Combine & sleeper server is not 100% back to what it once was, tryed it myself as the good ol days was the best, but got alittle mad when i discovered some stuffs that was *new* there.
i have a 75 ranger and 70 cleric on the combine, but it's not the same. When the cazic thule server started it was INCREDIBLY fun.. when the combine was 3 months in progression, we already had what took cazic thule server 1-2 years
i still play everquest, and i dont get that same feeling as i did back then.. everquest has changed a lot, and i wish they changed all the servers and refreshed them back to normal :) then everbody can start back from scratch again instead of buying plat n shit from farmers

This actually happened bro, back then kerafym caused so much DPS that it was impossible for any single guild to take him down without some serious zerg tactics. I know one Asian guild did it. The LoS with the help of one other guild on The Nameless and FoH on the Veeshan server with the help of a smaller guild did it as well.
It wasn't much of an accomplishment, no loot, no corpse, a lot of bodies.
the Rallos zek server had 300+ people on the kill, this sleeper never died, and it was 1/3 the strength of the normal sleeper cause it was dumbed down for the Asian server.

First of all, WoW isn't even the #1 game in the world if we're talking worldwide population; there are far more successful games in Asia. Secondly, the only reason WoW is so popular in the U.S. market, is because it's easy mode. Everyone get's their hands held and bottles refilled whenever needed. Most americans don't seem to like a challenge, or to actually have to do anything themselves. THAT's why WoW is "#1" *laugh*.
If we're talking depth, EQ wins hands-down vs. most current mmo's.
Even though I may not agree with this Ordithius WoW is currently the most populated MMORPG on the market worldwide. with over 10 million subscribers. It's closest competitor has 7 million in Asia.(eve)
You'd be correct if we were talking merely monthly fee based games here. Look around for free-to-play mmorpgs, and you'll realize many of them dwarf WoW in numbers. Maple story, while it's not the best example in terms of actual gameplay, has many, many more subscribers (I've read that it's close to 50 million or something). And although they're free, they often use the cash shop method so, all in all, they make an even bigger profit.

I'm not too sure about a tracking website for them, to be honest. I'm just going by what I've read (I spend a decent amount of time on gaming forums hehe). I do know that Online gaming is HUGE in Asia, so they tend to have the majority of gamers over there. Coincidentally, the most popular online games in most parts of Asia are f2p, grind-fest types of games :P. I never understood that, myself lol.
Asian cultures tend to be progression oriented; work hard to move forward in life. It seems logical that grind fest games would be more popular there for that reason. That's why RPG's tend to be overwhelmingly more popular in Asia than in North America.

As cool as it would have been for this to have been real, it wasn't. It's on a private server and was not the first killing of the sleeper. Sony AND former owner of Everquest, Verant, all confirmed the 3 guild raid on an North American server was the first.
Don't believe me? Go look at the facts. The Gm's stopped the first attempted killing and success on that server purely because they had no clue how to react. Why? Because it never happened.

You are totally right, eq is far more epic. I've been playing the game since 99 and have reached level 80 and theres still alot of content that is extremely challenging. Including a fight where you have to duck, run around the room, run under the mobs legs and other things to avoid getting yourself and others killed. One fight where only 24 people can be on the mobs agro list, if another joins, a person gets booted while others have to keep turning statues every few minutes. it still a neat game
The thing that always freaked me out about EQ dragons was their run. It was truly frightening watching them charge towards your raid's general direction with that weird kind of snakey/alien/crocodile run.
WoW and EQ are both awesome games, and while WoW for me is, on the whole, generally more fun, it doesn't leave me with a real and genuine sense of nostalgia and EPICNESS that EQ did.
No 40 man raiding in WoW compares to the sometimes 90+ man raiding I did in EQ.

Rallos Zek (the server) had him down to like 35% on Nov. 15th 2003 when SoE devs Despawned the mob. The next day he was back in sleeping state. The day after that RZ again went after him and after 3 hours of constent rezzing and attacking killed him.

We Killed the sleeper Kerafyrm on Marr Server November 4th 2003 took 97people raid to take this sob down about half the raid wiped (58) out of (39) survived I was on em,Barely lived through it 5 min into the fight about 2 full groups completely wiped out from his AOE double damage rampage spell not counting his harsh Damage over time spells he used, took us 38 min to kill him

I remember a guild on the Rathe being the first to ever wake the sleeper in 2001 ish. They the sleeper went from zone to zone killing everyone until a GM despawned him. I remember getting death touched from across the zone and took a screenie. Good times.

the sleeper was killed the old on that is and it took 8 hours and 3 ful riads but it did happen and i do agree that it wasent ment to happen becuse it droped nothing like killing an mpg but when it did the game changed in a bad way the fun content went off the wall to hard i was game end till a year ago but i had enough was a fun game whiel i played for 9 years

original sleeper was intentionally unkill able. programmed that way on purpose. When Sony bought out EQ, they didn't understand what they had on their hands and focused on equipment based content. they focused too much on the "final quest" being some almost unattainable with the current game status. they had to rush something out to compete with other games. gm's were known to despawn the sleeper so guilds couldn't fight it.

It's real, it's the Traditional Chinese version in Taiwan hosting by Gamania, an online game company later known for coperating with SOE as SOGA, which did the SOGA model for SOE.
But the Sleeper isn't the real Sleeper though. Due to unkown reasons, it's dmg and HPs are lower then normal Sleeper.
I am one of the player on that server, and I knew some of their guildies too. In fact, they didn't put any hope to kill this guy, but found out they can chain rez and zerg him later.

Brotherhood of the Spider on The Rathe server was the first guild to awaken the sleeper. I know this cuz that's the server I played on. I later joined BotS and was with them thru PoP- till a bit after OoW came out.
Some of the best raiding experiences I ever did were in EQ. WoW can't even compare.

there was one pally dont remeber his name but was maxed aa's was the only char to take a full round of attack from Him. first fight sleeper poofed at 31% next weekend GM's respawned and we killed him for Sure. only loots was a bat wing someoen gave him during fight 8) hope this helps to clear up the R.W.O. @carak25 This is correct. Fight took almost 2 hrs if I recall. There waas over 30 channels of people being updated and multiple GMs on hand.

Yea it was such a big deal when Kerafym died first on RALLOS Zek not Zek, that it was in a major gaming magazine. Ascending Dawn, Wuhan, one other major guild and a several misc guilds guilds where the ones who got her done. Ahh the good ol days.

The real Kerafyrm was killed in North America first, and it does matter the stats of the creature. If it was not for GM's kicking out Afterlife, they would of had the first kill.
There were emu servers where people killed Kerafyrm in one hit because they made him weaker or them super powerful... would you count that as the first kill then? According to your logic, the emu servers would have the first kill...

A kill is a kill, no matter its stats. Sony's Chinese server did down it before the NA Sony server. If you go by emu servers, I am sure there were some out there that downed Kera prior to the live servers, but show me where its identified that they did.

Druzzil Ro didn't kill the sleeper. You Only Got One Shot To Kill Him, then he despawned. Forever. One of the Zek servers killed him, using crazily-coordinated organization. The battle was long, and many people lost many levels, but pressed on.
As for this video - It's from a very old private server. China didn't do shit. This server ras running EQEmu because EQEmu was the only emulator capable of running a classic server, provided you had a very very early version from the EQTrilogy era.

Ok can anyone explain how the warder even spawns? If this footage is legit and all, that means this fight lasted a week and they took Sleeper down 13% with warders on them. Unless they somehow managed to wait 6 days and like 20 hours without Sleeper tearing apart the whole world, it's BS.

if you look, you can see the last warders corpse in the wall, the one that would have been killed to make sleeper spawn, from the looks of it they left one up for an entire spawn cycle, then did the fight, mid way through the fight the other warders start to spawn.

It's titanium client with new items and zone updates. and it uses EQEmu server code, which is buggy as hell. Thats why it's not classic.

Especially notable is the miraculous respawn during the fight. All 4 dragons have to be dead at the same time. And they had a week long respawn timer, right? Eh, doesn't matter now.

Didnt really matter tho..once all 4 were dead that was it, they never repoped ever again...When guilds where farming primals they would only kill 3 out of the 4 and wait a week..thats why there are no new Mask of Tinkerings..they no longer drop since none of the 4 org dragons repop...I have Screen shots of Sleeper ripping threw Skyshrine on TP when Interpid woke him up...was funny as hell!

EQ > than WoW... unfortunately that's not what the history.. FAQs... will say.
EQ has so much content it's overwhelming if you haven't been playing 10 years. It looks better and has better environments, story, and character. EQ is actually memorable, but still classic.
the ONLY thing WoW has going for it is a better tuned UI and a more action-oriented setup.
I think I'd still hold asheron's call over both... just because it had a fully open world... it was a bit lonely though.

highly debatable, i play bolth and find EQ to be much harder.
and pre PoP it was much much harder than WoW.
it has about 3-4 times more content as well.
in WoW , any class can solo to atleast 70 and the 5 or 6 races to chose from are all inbred with talent points.
WoW runs smoother, therefor the PC specs are not as high of that in EQ.
so in conclusion all wow really has on EQ is that all it takes is an outdated PC and a newb to hook up and play.

For those arguing about which is better between WoW and EQ.I played EQ from launch to 2005 and played WoW for 3 years. I loved both games, met people that I DO care about even though I no longer play either. (Just recently had to quit wow)but I have to say I find myself feeling more nostalgic about classic eq(hence the reason i come to youtube to watch old raids)I had a bard 65,monk 65, and shaman 60 on Quellious server. I had a 70 hunter on Blackrock. Just sorry, i no longer have the time 2play

I'm from Quellious as well! I ended up transferring to be on Karana with friends. But I played a monk, paladin, druid, and mage. Yarhar (yes worst name ever for a guy with an eyepatch lol), Logfrok (the froglok), Juggjuggs (a GM forced me to change it to Duggduggs later), and Geaux.
I really wish any game could be that much fun again. WoW is a good MMO, but did it do what this game did? Not even close. WoW is good, but I miss playing a game like this but know i can't go back to those times.

i have a 75 ranger and 70 cleric on the combine, but it's not the same. When the cazic thule server started it was INCREDIBLY fun.. when the combine was 3 months in progression, we already had what took cazic thule server 1-2 years

This actually happened bro, back then kerafym caused so much DPS that it was impossible for any single guild to take him down without some serious zerg tactics. I know one Asian guild did it. The LoS with the help of one other guild on The Nameless and FoH on the Veeshan server with the help of a smaller guild did it as well.
It wasn't much of an accomplishment, no loot, no corpse, a lot of bodies.

First of all, WoW isn't even the #1 game in the world if we're talking worldwide population; there are far more successful games in Asia. Secondly, the only reason WoW is so popular in the U.S. market, is because it's easy mode. Everyone get's their hands held and bottles refilled whenever needed. Most americans don't seem to like a challenge, or to actually have to do anything themselves. THAT's why WoW is "#1" *laugh*.
If we're talking depth, EQ wins hands-down vs. most current mmo's.

Even though I may not agree with this Ordithius WoW is currently the most populated MMORPG on the market worldwide. with over 10 million subscribers. It's closest competitor has 7 million in Asia.(eve)

You'd be correct if we were talking merely monthly fee based games here. Look around for free-to-play mmorpgs, and you'll realize many of them dwarf WoW in numbers. Maple story, while it's not the best example in terms of actual gameplay, has many, many more subscribers (I've read that it's close to 50 million or something). And although they're free, they often use the cash shop method so, all in all, they make an even bigger profit.

I'm not too sure about a tracking website for them, to be honest. I'm just going by what I've read (I spend a decent amount of time on gaming forums hehe). I do know that Online gaming is HUGE in Asia, so they tend to have the majority of gamers over there. Coincidentally, the most popular online games in most parts of Asia are f2p, grind-fest types of games :P. I never understood that, myself lol.

Asian cultures tend to be progression oriented; work hard to move forward in life. It seems logical that grind fest games would be more popular there for that reason. That's why RPG's tend to be overwhelmingly more popular in Asia than in North America.

As cool as it would have been for this to have been real, it wasn't. It's on a private server and was not the first killing of the sleeper. Sony AND former owner of Everquest, Verant, all confirmed the 3 guild raid on an North American server was the first.
Don't believe me? Go look at the facts. The Gm's stopped the first attempted killing and success on that server purely because they had no clue how to react. Why? Because it never happened.

You are totally right, eq is far more epic. I've been playing the game since 99 and have reached level 80 and theres still alot of content that is extremely challenging. Including a fight where you have to duck, run around the room, run under the mobs legs and other things to avoid getting yourself and others killed. One fight where only 24 people can be on the mobs agro list, if another joins, a person gets booted while others have to keep turning statues every few minutes. it still a neat game

The thing that always freaked me out about EQ dragons was their run. It was truly frightening watching them charge towards your raid's general direction with that weird kind of snakey/alien/crocodile run.

WoW and EQ are both awesome games, and while WoW for me is, on the whole, generally more fun, it doesn't leave me with a real and genuine sense of nostalgia and EPICNESS that EQ did.
No 40 man raiding in WoW compares to the sometimes 90+ man raiding I did in EQ.

Rallos Zek (the server) had him down to like 35% on Nov. 15th 2003 when SoE devs Despawned the mob. The next day he was back in sleeping state. The day after that RZ again went after him and after 3 hours of constent rezzing and attacking killed him.
