@shwig2 - I had the 40, but sold it when I got the 45. I did measure the grips at the time but have since misplaced the numbers. i don't recall the grips being substantially different in feel though.
Just bought mine today and absolutely dig it. It's very accurate and a real pleasure to shoot. Something to note. My magazines tend to move around and make noise when I conceal carry. Any easy fix is to get some #26 O-rings to slip around the base of the magazines. It will snug them to the pistol and fix that minor issue.
okay guys. so ive just recently got into handguns. and ive been looking at a glock 36 and an xdm 45. both compacts. for my conceal and carry. which do you guys think is a better choice??
@Lwi3D5 - they're both good choices. If you're new to handguns, I recommend finding a range that rents guns so you can try them. Ultimately you are better off carrying the one that feels comfortable to you which will enable you to more accurately hit your target.
@AmendmentNo2 So, how familiar are you with the Heckler&Koch USP or USP Tactical? I've always owned 1911's and for my next pistol I'm interested in the USP Tactical or an XDM
@XcapeArtist357 - thanks for watching. I have no extensive knowledge of H&K's but when I was looking for a tactical .45, I ended up going with the FNP-45 Tactical. It's the lightest recoiling .45 I've shot and with the RMR sight on it, it is laser accurate. I have three videos reviewing it if you care to check it out...
@AmendmentNo2 do u think the RMR would go on the xdm 5.25 bt?if so what one would be best for this gun.. love this gun but not liking the fiber optics.having hard time shooting with these.i hate to say it but do much better one handed with my hi-piont.lol just seems inconsistant.looks like urs shoots good?what are some things that might be going on , that might cause this.
@shagonator2000 - I have not handled the 5.25, so I can't answer that, but I suspect it would take some gunsmithing to mount it. I'm not a big fan of the fiber optic sights either, I find that once you know the sight picture, the bright sight can become a distraction.
@XcapeArtist357 I don't know much about USPs other than theory, but I know the USP series uses a non-standard rail that has problems with a lot of rail-mounted gear. That's really something to take into account if you use a fore-end light and such.
I have had mine for about 5 months now, put 1200 rounds of various bullet weights through the pistol, it has been 100% reliable, it came zeroed out of the box at 25 yards, Love it and my 1911 :)
Bought a 2011 model XDM 45 SS slide 3 days ago for $604 shipped 2 day on GunBroker at Northern Firearms out of MN I cant wait to take her to the range.
Was lucky enough to buy a XDM45 Bi-Tone thru Springfield's pro form program for $481.26, took advantage of their Gear Up promo, which included 3-13 round mags & free mag holder. 5 mags = 65+1 rounds cap. Fired it for the FIRST time in CCW class wearing electronic muffs and overheard a classmate tell my wife.." I see your husband must shoot quite a bit, he does know that there is a whole lot more paper on that target than what he's using" I put 39 rds in a fist sized group out of the box !
@Hank45lc really nice price on that gun! Is that promo still going on? Wont be able to purchase one for another 3 weeks but the lowest ive heard is about $630.
@dbullock113 i think that promo ended at the end of December at least that's what i remember reading on Springfield's website a couple weeks ago sux because im planning on buying an xdm in about a month. and if the prices for the xdm are anything like they are for my XD then im definetly not happy about that
@AmendmentNo2 took it out today. for a .45 it has really low recoil i love it. i was all over the place with it shooting the first target. being the first time i shot a .45 in the corp we had the beretta 9. 2nd target i had nice groupings but kept shooting low. i'll get use to it as i continue with it. i recommend the gun for anyone
I got my hands on the 9mm version for a few days and I loved it. Great features the interchangeable grips are great. It was one of the few pistols Ive shot that actually felt at home in my hand.
nice review, I have a lot of 1911's and some HK's and sigs but no XDm, gonna get a 3.8 compact in 9mm for the cheap ammo, look forward to getting it for carry. I am partial to the 45 and that XDm 45 you reviewed is a very nice looking gun.
@JustinChance1985 - Thanks! The gun didn't shoot low & to the left... I shot low & to the left... the gun is accurate as hell (I was not, lol). It was literally the first time using that gun, and practice makes... permanent. All is well in the XDM's POI/POA world now!
Excellent review, thank you!! Just bought this exact gun except mine has the stainless(bi-tone) slide!! Can't wait to shoot it next week!! Just curious though...do you oil these around the same amout as a Glock...like with a light coating? I was just curious cause based on my research, these babies don't fire dry very well when they are somewhat dry. On the other hand, I've also heard they function flawlessly no matter what. Can you tell me your thoughts?
@damon323 - Congrats on your purchase! I oil the XDm the same as all of my other weapons - with just a drop where there is friction: slide rails, barrel contact points, etc. As for malfunctions... I have yet to experience one with the XDm although I can't say that I have fired it completely dry.
I'm also kind of OCD when it comes to cleaning them after use, it's almost a Zen thing for me. The truth is you can put a LOT of rounds through this bad boy between cleanings though...
very good review I just got my .45 xdm in all black friday and have already put 300 rounds of various ammo thru it with not one hitch.I love this pistol if your thinkn of buying one quit thinkn bout it and buy it.you can watch my videos of me shooting it on my page
Just purchased the xd .45 at my local dealer here in california. You are so lucky to be able to purchase the xd-m model with the upgrades to the model as well as the high capacity mags. California sucks but at the same time cant wait to get my pistol on the 28th . Great review and great firearm cant wait to get mine to the range to sling some lead.
@TheSteinbrenner1 - Thankd for watching and congrats on your purchase!!! Sorry to hear rthat you are restricted by the rules in the PRK (People's Republic of Kalifornia)...
tyvm! i was looking at it today and was seriously thinking bout buying it next week, but my fiancée wasn't so sure. this review sold her. if shes happy im happy!!!
Hey great clip, it was full of useful information. I can't believe how much stuff came with it! I am looking to buy my first pistol soon and I was looking at the glock 31 357 mag. Earlier today I was told to look at the XDM 45ACP and this is first clip I seen. Well what can I say, "SOLD!" hahaha... Yup you just helped me make up my mind... Thanks!
Nice grouping. Next time, try shooting without lifting your trigger finger off of the trigger. I think that may help getting on target a little better.
@Hallowedpointdtp you can call Springfield armory and ask them if they have any LH holsters for the xdm. You just need to give them your guns serial number and you address.
hey man, Great review! I'm actually torn between on two different pistols. The two pistols I'm looking at are the Glock 21 SF and the XD 45. Which would you prefer? thanks.
@ksherrod - there are literally hundreds of guns in that price range and a whole bunch of calibers too. My suggestion would be to go to a gun club/range and see if you can rent some different ones. There's a lot to consider, but comfort is VERY important. If you get a gun that's too big or has too much recoil - you probably won't want to carry it. My first carry weapon was a 1911 because everyone recommended it. I hated it!
This can be potentially expensive hobby without doing reasearch!
Hell, it's an expensive hobby even WITH the research (I have spent a bundle just trying different holsters!!!). Get to a range, talk to people and try different guns/calibers. It's the best way to figure it out.
I could easily just recommend a $1,000 FN Five-seveN (which is what I carry), but you might not like it... there's a grand down the drain...
@ksherrod - I could suggest lots of guns, but what will you use it for (conceal carry, home defense, target shooting, etc...), and what is your budget? You could spend a couple hundred on a 22 or several thousand on a high-end 1911...
Looking into buying my first handgun. I want a great .45 and cost is a big factor. I've always like the XD series. Would this make a good first handgun?
@korndog59 - Thats a tough question to answer because it depends on a) what you will use it for, and b) what you feel comfortable shooting. My first handgun was a 1911 in 45acp but I ended up hating it because it was such a pain to reassemble after cleaning.
The best advice I can give you is to try out different gun makes and calibers - many ranges rent them. If you feel comfortable shooting a particular gun you are more likely to hit your target. That's the most important thing...
I have the same gun. It shot low and to the left out of the box, I sent it back to Springfield and they corrected the problem for free. I had them do some custom work at the same time'; shorter trigger, lighter trigger and trijicon sights. It's a sweet setup now, I can outshoot some modded 1911s.
@rogueboater - it was all me, that was the first time shooting - I have gotten used to the gun although... the poor XDm sees more safe-time since I got the FNP 45 Tactical, now there is a shooter!
@452seattle - I hear ya, I have the same disease! Check out the FNP 45 Tactical. I just got one in FDE, put a Trijicon RMR and a Streamlight TLR-2 on it. I will be reviewing it right after my ATF paperwork is in and I put the Gemtech Blackside suppressor on it!
I will say though that putting a red-dot sight on this gun is almost an unfair advantage!!!
Great review. Another great safety feature is that the gun does not have to be dry fired to be broken down unlike the past generation XD and glock...isn't it great how Springfield has done more to advance there design in ten years than in 40 when glock was still making shower curtains?
Based on the springfield website the XDm .45 hasn't been released. How'd you get a hold of one? Have they already been released and the site just hasn't been updated? When was or is the release date? I'm really excited to get one of these. Great review! Thanks.
@House6409 - Their website says that it "is available now", so I'm not sure what you are looking at. The date on the test-fire round for my XDm 45 is 5-17-10 (I may have given the wrong date in my review) and I bought it about a month later.
All of my local gun stores currently have them in stock. Check it out - I'll bet you can pick one up today!!!
Dang, VERY impressive shooting? Are you sure you weren't five feet from the target just out of camera view? But seriously, that is some impressive shooting. I wouldn't want to be the moron that breaks into your house at night. Cool video and a great review. This is probably my next handgun. Thanks for taking the time.
@Mattsplat1975 - thanks for the comments! 7 yards is not that far, but I typically dont shoot further than 25 yards with handguns, as that is outside of a normal self-defense situation. I can tell you that the groups I get with my five-seven at 15 yards often look just like the XDm at 7 yards. Definitely under 2 inches mostly.
They're both great guns, but once you get used to the light weight of the FsN, it is scary accurate...
@808Arsenal - I have not put a micrometer to it, but it feels to be the same size as my .40. I will measure it when I get a chance and let you know for certain...
Fuck Communist-fornia! I'd just bring hi-cap mags in anyway from neighboring states. The US Supreme Court just ruled that Americans have the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms! So fuck the gun haiting and criminal loving ultra-liberals! Criminals get all the ass and pussy in the world. They just rape un-armed ultra-liberals with ease!
@hotboyz227 - there's a sticker right on the box that says "Not legal for sale in California - high capacity magazine". I have not searched for it, but I am certain there is a 10 round magazine for use in the People's Republic of Kalifornia
@frankgon4 - No, it does not have a magazine safety. I'm not a big fan of them and the only time I can think if that it might be a useful feature would be in a gun retention situation (the bad guy tries to take your weapon away, you drop the mag so he can't shoot it). XD(m)s will fire with mag out.
The only gun I have with a mag safety is the FN Five-seveN, and there is an easy modification to remove it from that weapon.
@spokelse0 - Excellent question! It does not have adjustable sites. Blame user error (me) for shooting low & left, that video was shot after 2 hours at the range (shooting various weapons) in 97 degree heat - I was tired and soaked. I'm dead-on with my XDm .40 and I'm sure that the 45 is just as accurate.
I'll post an update to the video showing better results at some point...
Great review man; I got mine about 2 weeks ago and I love it. Took it out to the range this past weekend and it shot perfectly. After about 250-300 rounds, you can miss anything; it's like the pistol won't let you miss...haha.
Is the grip handle any wider than the .40 version?

I have the same gun. It shot low and to the left out of the box, I sent it back to Springfield and they corrected the problem for free. I had them do some custom work at the same time'; shorter trigger, lighter trigger and trijicon sights. It's a sweet setup now, I can outshoot some modded 1911s.

@rogueboater - it was all me, that was the first time shooting - I have gotten used to the gun although... the poor XDm sees more safe-time since I got the FNP 45 Tactical, now there is a shooter!

@rogueboater it was never the gun...it was you!

I thought this had a double guide rod spring?

@452seattle - I hear ya, I have the same disease! Check out the FNP 45 Tactical. I just got one in FDE, put a Trijicon RMR and a Streamlight TLR-2 on it. I will be reviewing it right after my ATF paperwork is in and I put the Gemtech Blackside suppressor on it!
I will say though that putting a red-dot sight on this gun is almost an unfair advantage!!!

Try not to release the slide on the pistol without a round cambered it will eventually do damage to the sear mechanism, just glide to back down

@DanZr10 i dont think the chambered bullet changes anything

@gtvapsamtik - that's exactly right. They do the European Day-Month-Year format...

Great review. Another great safety feature is that the gun does not have to be dry fired to be broken down unlike the past generation XD and glock...isn't it great how Springfield has done more to advance there design in ten years than in 40 when glock was still making shower curtains?
amberpoovey 1 year ago
Based on the springfield website the XDm .45 hasn't been released. How'd you get a hold of one? Have they already been released and the site just hasn't been updated? When was or is the release date? I'm really excited to get one of these. Great review! Thanks.
House6409 1 year ago

They're both great guns, but once you get used to the light weight of the FsN, it is scary accurate...

is it thicker than the .40/9mm models? Kinda like how the glock 20/21 is thicker than the 17/22? Or same size?
808Arsenal 1 year ago
@808Arsenal - I have not put a micrometer to it, but it feels to be the same size as my .40. I will measure it when I get a chance and let you know for certain...
AmendmentNo2 1 year ago
@808Arsenal Yes it's slightly thicker then the 9/40 S&W. feels great.

Will it fire without the magazine or does it have a magazine safety?
I want an XDM, but can't decide on the caliber.
frankgon4 1 year ago
@frankgon4 - No, it does not have a magazine safety. I'm not a big fan of them and the only time I can think if that it might be a useful feature would be in a gun retention situation (the bad guy tries to take your weapon away, you drop the mag so he can't shoot it). XD(m)s will fire with mag out.
The only gun I have with a mag safety is the FN Five-seveN, and there is an easy modification to remove it from that weapon.
AmendmentNo2 1 year ago
@AmendmentNo2 Thanks, I am also not a fan of a magazine safety. I just got an offer on the full size XDM .40 caliber for $575 walk out price.

raise your left elbow a bit. That should help with the low to the left besides trigger time.
CarlRF99 1 year ago
