@mozzer920 no man, he re-recorded all the drums on the second album himself, and didn't tell goldsmith, he told him he could stay in the band and play with them live and that dave himself would record the drums for the albums, obviously goldsmith said no to that offer, anyone with dignity would.
this is the performance that led the foo´s to be one of lettermans favourite bands, since then they have played on his show like 11 times or so!!! and Letterman has said that they actually are one of the best bands!!!
ya, they had a different feel in their music back then. it was louder and faster, and it had that underground feel. watch them perform "enough space" live. the energy in the concerts was the best. real heavy go crazy rock
@jonnd272 Unfortunately, his accents are all out of time, as well.... Guy keeps good tempo, but listen to the snare accents going into the chorus..... Obviously, there's a lot of pressure being the drummer for Dave Grohl's band (who happens to be one of the best), but Nate just wasn't cutting it... This video is pretty solid proof.
@badluckhoppy He was talking about the bassist, Nate Mendel. The drummer in this video was William Goldsmith, and he didn't play bad at all. You're dumb.
@manhuntruler2 I'm not kidding those are two of his favorite bands. He has them on anytime they have new music. Green day made their national TV debut on this show as well.
I remember seeing them on tour in 95. Dave was still finding his voice as you can tell from this early performance. He really came a long way vocally - no doubt.
im glad they got taylor instead of keeping william. william looks like hes REALLY struggling to keep a steady beat and his drumming looks wierd and awkward.
@RyanGuitar3 these years taylor was busy touring with alanis morrisette. i met him in kuala lumpur, malaysia back in 1997! the unforgettable year! however, dave and bunch rock! as always!
@RyanGuitar3 You really shouldn't judge William by just one performance of one song. He's a brilliant drummer, he's just pulling a couple of goofy faces and moves here, thats all.
If he was so bad, Dave wouldn't have asked him to join the band in the first place and then tried to convince him to stay when he quit.
@historymoans Hey, I understand where you're coming from. I've seen some of the work William has done with Sunny Day Real Estate and he is a good drummer. But Dave didn't like some of the drumming William did on The Colour and the Shape album so he rerecorded them himself, so William was offended and left. What I'm getting at is that he's not a bad drummer, in fact he's pretty good, but he just wasn't a right fit to be in the Foo Fighters.
@RyanGuitar3 William never had a chance to create his own arrangments though, everything he played from the first album was devised by Dave and when he played it live he got it spot on. When recording TCATS Dave arranged the drums (to william's frustration), and when William didn't make the sounds that Dave wanted (e.g Sounding like DG playing the drums) DG played the drums himself. Taylor wouldn't have been able to get the sound Dave wanted on TCATS and in fact only played on half of TNLTL.
@historymoans Yeah, I can agree woth you on this one. I bet that if it was Taylor who was the original drummer he would have left too, probably because near the beginning of the Foo Fighters it was pretty much Dave's band and the other members didn't really get a say in how they wanted their music to sound.
I like the Brian Wilson style melodies on this and other Grohl songs. He just sings too damn loud. His melodies sometimes get list in hoarseness because he belts it so loud.
it is i Justin Bieber. your welcome ladys, and yes i voted twice. thumbs down of course and i just wanted to say to you little buttheads. its my world and yall just live in it. im out, one

they pretty much did go back to this style in their new album, they won't get any radio playtime, but who gives a shit? the music industry sucks now anyway.
@ericmeloman85 It was great music, but even if they recreated it, itd never be the first 2 albums. They have a scheme like the Beatles did. They do 2 albums alike and then they switch their format. DG isnt a hot shot out of Virginia anymore. Hes a grown man in LA. Not that he's lost any of his authenticity, just a different man. Id say Wasting Light will be the closest youll get since 1997. CHEERS!
Dave's little...dance....sway...whatever he's doing through most of this is so funny/cute. It's totally something I would do and then look back at the video and go like SHIT was I seriously doing that the whole time?! How annoying must I've been to have to watch! hahah
I love the Foo Fighters. I love everything about them. Old Foo Fighters and the new stuff too! However, their old drummer, William Goldsmith bugs me. It's just the way that he plays the drums bugs the shit out of me. Like his movements and everything.
@blackhamster1009 Kurt talked a lot about wanting to play with other people because he felt kind of limited even though Krist and Dave were great musicians. Nirvana, by the accounts I've read, were really kind of dissolving at the time off Kurt's death. I think Kurt would have been really proud to see Dave play with the Foo Fighters.
you can tell they really werent worried about playing evey single note perfectly during this performance. they were more concerned about rocking out and having a good time.
Dave is giving himself a sore throat and struggling with the high notes but still an awesome live song :) David Letterman seems to always have such good bands on :)
