  • Goldsmith's guts to say no is pretty admirable. Hawkins better fit though....

  • Damn, didn't know they had skinnies that skinny back in the 90's..

  • 1:34 LOL

  • 0:23 auch!!

  • I know the story-but he still quit.

  • i like the original drummer way more than hawkins

  • Actually he begged Goldsmith to stay in the band-the guy quit.

  • @mozzer920 no man, he re-recorded all the drums on the second album himself, and didn't tell goldsmith, he told him he could stay in the band and play with them live and that dave himself would record the drums for the albums, obviously goldsmith said no to that offer, anyone with dignity would.

  • David has a "hipster" out fit on hahaha

  • @SKY101ful no.. just no.

  • I recall I had this song the start of my "music VHS" tape......

  • this is before they adjusted to stages bigger than the back of a pick up truck

  • this is the performance that led the foo´s to be one of lettermans favourite bands, since then they have played on his show like 11 times or so!!! and Letterman has said that they actually are one of the best bands!!!

  • The people said: WTF, he was the nirvana drummer!

  • Goldsmith was ermm different

  • It wasn't too cool how dave screwed william goldsmith over. He wasn't a shabby drummer.

  • LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • 3:31 JESUS !!

  • and so it all began...

  • william goldsmith is the man

  • I love dave's dance move at 1:17

  • the sunny day boys backing dave up.

  • @777jackpot0 Not mine, haha

  • Ladies and Gentleman This is a Call : Foo Fighters

  • Man o man do I dig Dave. Perhaps he was sick.....but I think it might just be early in his singing career.

It takes a LONG time to develop a mega powerful voice......like he has NOW. He really has the ultimate rock voice...........

  • ya, they had a different feel in their music back then. it was louder and faster, and it had that underground feel. watch them perform "enough space" live. the energy in the concerts was the best. real heavy go crazy rock

  • slapadeBASS!

  • 1:32 and thats why im not in the band anymore.

  • @phish1085 OMFG... true that

  • Revenge for...Axl Rose!Axl Rose is the missing part!

  • I love how stoked Dave has always been about Foo, since the beginning.

  • Nate Mendell always looks like he's playing something totally different, he moves so out of time :')

  • @jonnd272 Unfortunately, his accents are all out of time, as well.... Guy keeps good tempo, but listen to the snare accents going into the chorus..... Obviously, there's a lot of pressure being the drummer for Dave Grohl's band (who happens to be one of the best), but Nate just wasn't cutting it... This video is pretty solid proof.

  • @badluckhoppy I was just saying Nate jumps and headbangs out of time to the music? D:

  • @badluckhoppy I was just saying Nate jumps and headbangs out of time to the music? D:

  • @badluckhoppy He was talking about the bassist, Nate Mendel. The drummer in this video was William Goldsmith, and he didn't play bad at all. You're dumb.

  • Hell yeah! Oh man, their debut album's surely a lo-fi masterpiece.

  • Nate is the best part of this performance in my Opinion

  • what is the significance the dave's shirt?

  • You can definitely see a big improvement in his singing from that performance to now. The music rocks no matter what! Three guitars= awesomeness.

  • You gotta love how Dave picked himself up and carried on after such a shitty thing happened. He has an indomitable will.

  • i'm glad foo fighters have taylor this time.

  • pat is a badass

  • best band in the world keeps getting better with age..

  • man, dave grohl really took the reins from kurt....thats how u keep rock alive!!!

  • Best Band in the world!

  • Best band in the world!

  • If only Dave could play every instrument at the same time. That would be the perfect concert.

  • @ET11495 -- he probably can... but keeps it a secret from the creepy government so he isnt captured and studied ;)

  • @ET11495 No... I like it a lot better with the entire band.

  • Haha Dave's epic rocking at 1:16

  • Nate's stance is awkward, lol

  • Lol watch Nate. He's such a geek. (In the best possible way!)

  • DAVE SHOULD SHAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FreakinKoolMedia so hed look like he does in this video

  • They never sounded this good!

  • Man, '95 was such a long time ago.

  • 2:29 again!

  • @grUngEroX1991 I really like sound of a bass in this passage!

  • @grUngEroX1991 1:31 is epicer!

  • I think the Foo's were still 1/2 Sunny Day when this was recorded.

  • @Megas9X LMFAO!!!!

  • @Megas9X laugh it up. william goldsmith still played the songs from the 1995 album better than taylor. he's just a better punk drummer overall.

  • The men of the bass guitar rules!

  • Dave's favorite bands are Green Day and Foo Fighters

  • @RealTime88 Lmao hell nah man, Green Day killed the music is loves.

  • @manhuntruler2 I'm not kidding those are two of his favorite bands. He has them on anytime they have new music. Green day made their national TV debut on this show as well.

  • @Megas9X It's like "Flea drumming style"

  • Haven't seen this video in years. I almost forgot about poor Pat and his sleeve from hell.

  • @ericmeloman85 Check out Wasting Light. They haven't rocked this hard in years.

  • there is nothing like seeing the Foo Fighters live, it is seriously amazing, they play al there songs so well, with so much energy,

  • does nate have red hair or is that just the lighting?

  • @marokokisetter Back then it was dyed red-ish.

  • im glad they got taylor instead of keeping william. william looks like hes REALLY struggling to keep a steady beat and his drumming looks wierd and awkward.

  • @RyanGuitar3 these years taylor was busy touring with alanis morrisette. i met him in kuala lumpur, malaysia back in 1997! the unforgettable year! however, dave and bunch rock! as always!

  • @lanhalamy youre pretty luck that you got to meet taylor! one of my favorite drummers :)

  • @RyanGuitar3 yeah the band practiced at a place where i always hung out, i met alanis and jesse tobias too! they were great!

  • @RyanGuitar3 You really shouldn't judge William by just one performance of one song. He's a brilliant drummer, he's just pulling a couple of goofy faces and moves here, thats all.

If he was so bad, Dave wouldn't have asked him to join the band in the first place and then tried to convince him to stay when he quit.

  • @historymoans Hey, I understand where you're coming from. I've seen some of the work William has done with Sunny Day Real Estate and he is a good drummer. But Dave didn't like some of the drumming William did on The Colour and the Shape album so he rerecorded them himself, so William was offended and left. What I'm getting at is that he's not a bad drummer, in fact he's pretty good, but he just wasn't a right fit to be in the Foo Fighters.

  • @RyanGuitar3 William never had a chance to create his own arrangments though, everything he played from the first album was devised by Dave and when he played it live he got it spot on. When recording TCATS Dave arranged the drums (to william's frustration), and when William didn't make the sounds that Dave wanted (e.g Sounding like DG playing the drums) DG played the drums himself. Taylor wouldn't have been able to get the sound Dave wanted on TCATS and in fact only played on half of TNLTL.

  • @historymoans Yeah, I can agree woth you on this one. I bet that if it was Taylor who was the original drummer he would have left too, probably because near the beginning of the Foo Fighters it was pretty much Dave's band and the other members didn't really get a say in how they wanted their music to sound.

  • @RyanGuitar3 dude it's their first national tv appearance , you would freak out too

  • @emitremmus15 NO I WOULD'NT! I would probably just piss my pants, have a nervous breakdown, and run away from the studio! Oh wait a minute.....

  • @RyanGuitar3 i see what you did there

  • rofl he is moving JUST like kurt did. thats awesome

  • he is moving like kkurt cobain

  • I wonder if Dave gets embarassed watching this? Not that he should, he's just changed a lot, and the his vocals are... Well... They're better, ha.

  • Lost*. Fuck autocorrect.

  • I like the Brian Wilson style melodies on this and other Grohl songs. He just sings too damn loud. His melodies sometimes get list in hoarseness because he belts it so loud.

  • @rezdout you need a lobotomy

  • it is i Justin Bieber. your welcome ladys, and yes i voted twice. thumbs down of course and i just wanted to say to you little buttheads. its my world and yall just live in it. im out, one

  • Is it possible to Justin Bieber vote twice??

  • is that taylor?? LOL he looks like a fuckin dweeb :P

  • @guilleg4 Taylor wasn't in the band yet. That's William Goldsmith.

  • that was awesome

  • people say late 90's but from what i read it seems dave already had the ball rolling so id say mid 90's

  • Holy shit this is funny to watch. I mean their performance is great, but Dave really hasn't learned how to sing yet :D Completely out of pitch. Great song, nevertheless!

  • Dave Grohl killed Kurt Cobain so he could start Foo Fighters.

  • @lasoogneypubes STUPID FUCK U R

  • @SetMusicFree

    Lmao I'm joking dumbass.

  • @lasoogneypubes ahhahahahhhhaaaa hhoooohoooo how funny.....go back to school kid

  • @SetMusicFree

You were too stupid to pick up on an obvious joke, and I need to back to school? Lol.

  • @lasoogneypubes JJAJJAJAJAJJAJAJ TOO FUNNY

  • thankfully they have taylor!

  • 2 Idiotas

  • kurt style!

  • Something is telling me he is doing this for kurt

  • i wish kurt has revived from the grave and take the drummer position

  • THIS IS A CALL to all you apathtic, angry, lonely, sad ,pissed, obnoxious, insecure lost, 30+and 20 somethings, 40 and restless reply to me lets create a community that is unstoppable to change the foundations of our society cmon we can fuckin do it , spread the word IT IS THE HOUR OF THE TIME AND THE TIME HAS COME

  • I LOVE!! BRASIL

  • @fininho10 AND I LOVE YOUR MOM!!!!!

  • Wish the foos would go back to this style. Loved there first two albums!! The other ones are pretty good. but the first two are by far the best!

  • @ericmeloman85 dave said their next album is gonna be their hardest hitting one yet, so the chances are good!!!

  • @ericmeloman85

True, now they are just like the other new bands

  • @ericmeloman85 Pretty sure their new album is gonna be closer to this style, can't wait!

  • @ericmeloman85

they pretty much did go back to this style in their new album, they won't get any radio playtime, but who gives a shit? the music industry sucks now anyway.

  • @ericmeloman85 It was great music, but even if they recreated it, itd never be the first 2 albums. They have a scheme like the Beatles did. They do 2 albums alike and then they switch their format. DG isnt a hot shot out of Virginia anymore. Hes a grown man in LA. Not that he's lost any of his authenticity, just a different man. Id say Wasting Light will be the closest youll get since 1997. CHEERS!

  • @ericmeloman85 Listen to the new album, it comes out April 12th but it's up on their website now.

  • @ericmeloman85 New album bro.

  • @ericmeloman85 Wasting Light Bitch!!

  • @ericmeloman85 not anymore..there new one Wasting Light is the best now :P

  • @000Z9A I've heard wasting light and I like it but I wish it had this guitar sound. and maybe more melodic songs.

  • @ericmeloman85 In my opinion is was the first 3, There is Nothing Left To loose is my favorite foo album

  • @ericmeloman85 Agreed 100%

  • @ericmeloman85 i think that theres is nothing left to lose is their best, its so amazing and experimental!

  • Dave's little...dance....sway...whatever he's doing through most of this is so funny/cute. It's totally something I would do and then look back at the video and go like SHIT was I seriously doing that the whole time?! How annoying must I've been to have to watch! hahah

  • I love the Foo Fighters. I love everything about them. Old Foo Fighters and the new stuff too! However, their old drummer, William Goldsmith bugs me. It's just the way that he plays the drums bugs the shit out of me. Like his movements and everything.

  • @hootieman92 he was ok

  • Pat Smear!

  • Pat Smear!

  • punk rock band............but now there a ballad factory what happend dave grohl

  • what happend to the foo fighters this song is kewl there new stuff not so much

  • the drummer looks like Timmy off of southpark. TIMMY!!!!

  • The drummer ls really intense, but he rocks out big time. His playing reminds me of Keith Moon because he is so fast and he fits in extra drum beats

  • 1:18 epic moves by dave XD

  • 1:32 wat a retard hqahahaha

  • At 1:33 i see why they got taylor hawkins.

  • @777jackpot1 Haha! That was a pretty sick fill!

  • even Nate had a little energy...

    nice

  • Simply my favourite band ever..

  • You feel bad that Kurt couldn't see Dave play in Foo Fighters. But if Kurt didn't die, there would be no foo fighters

  • @blackhamster1009 Kurt talked a lot about wanting to play with other people because he felt kind of limited even though Krist and Dave were great musicians. Nirvana, by the accounts I've read, were really kind of dissolving at the time off Kurt's death. I think Kurt would have been really proud to see Dave play with the Foo Fighters.

  • 1:33 "DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP UNGH"

  • Josh Homme on drums!?

  • @YaMoBeThereAbout No,this is William Goldsmith,he got kicked out during Colour And Shape,Dave took over, then Taylor came in after the CD was done

  • lol dave grohl in the first part

  • you can tell they really werent worried about playing evey single note perfectly during this performance. they were more concerned about rocking out and having a good time.

  • Dave is giving himself a sore throat and struggling with the high notes but still an awesome live song :) David Letterman seems to always have such good bands on :)

  • this crowd just got rocked the fuck out. this is a lawl

  • Comment removed

  • nice pat is playing a trini lopez !

  • @KutaniCrane nope. i think its a gibson johnny a guitar. but not a trini lopez

  • they use to suck

  • Don't you love Dave's crazy side-humping move?:)

  • @5hane5hane5hane fuck right

  • yeah back when foo was foo....

  • Dave Letterman may be a lot of things, but you can't argue with his taste in music.

  • @BojanglesUdon I think Paul Shaffer also has something to do with who gets on the show. If you watch the show, you will hear him playing some mighty good tunes during commercials. Just the other day i heard some Frank Zappa coming from the CBS orchestra!

  • @juicehea i head Cream last night

  • Dave was accutally nervous for this, he always says that the only thing he doesnt like about letterman is the one song thing. He's always nervous for the first song and on lettermen they usually play only one song and he doesnt have the time to get all the nerves out, but either way I fucking love this band with all my heart.

  • 1:32 sounds a little bit like Radio Friendly Unit Shifter(Nirvana), in my opinion. Good both songs.

  • BEST BAND OF LATE 90s AND STILL TODAY

  • @ablack492 U mean late 90's

  • Pat Smear, William Goldsmith, Nate Mendel and Dave Grohl! This is Foo Fighters.

  • dave and pat are the only two (in my opinion) who look comfortable on this stage, and is that taylor on drums? doesnt look much like him

  • No, It's william goldsmith. Taylor was still with Alanis Morisette at the time.

  • @imissthe90s1 no, it's William Goldsmith

  • Damn, The start of the Reign Of Foo. They just keep goin and goin.

    F**king Awesome
