Actually, I would contend that those "atheists" he discusses in his video are NOT atheists at all. If they came to him and said, "I believe your book is true" then guess what? They're NOT atheists. Yes, I was talking about how it is easy to attribute 'creation' and design to something and be wrong. While all of nature is amazing, in context the eye, and our eyes in particular are not that amazing. Eyes spring up in nature all the time, which is why you see so many variations of eyes in all types of evlutionary lineages. From eye spots, to compound eyes they arise because they are useful. Our eyes are not that impressive in comparison to so many others, it is not all that amazing.

Natural selection drives this. Things that are useful for survival tend to get put in the gene pool. Being able to detect motion is very useful for finding food, thus eyes are selected for very often. If eyes are not useful, such as in the deep ocean or underground animals tend not to have eyes, or have very underveloped essentially useless eyes. This is exactly what you would expect to find according to evolutionary theory, and is in fact what you find.

Try not to think that way, nothing has human conciousness except human conciousness. Why is usually the wrong question, how it came to be is more useful. Have you ever heard the term 'blind watchmaker,' it is used to show how natural selection while completely uninterested in what gets selected for, will tend to select for the same kinds of things. From individual to individual its kind of trial and error, but on a species level it is a process.

1st. Just because there seems to be a mind doesn't make it so. 2nd. Natural Selection doesn't seem to have a mind of its own to me, and when properly understood its easy to see that it doesn not. Don't use words like 'allow' because they imply intention. Genetic replication is not perfect, as such individual organisms have different genes. Animals survive at different rates so gene frequency (of every gene) changes over time. It is a driving force, it is the driving force behind evolution.
