  • Strange thing is it's only some minutes but ....follows your entire life ...

  • Here we go ..the funkist track ever produced ...wah wi wah wah wwii included damn that man was in the groove ...

  • Was living in New Zealand in the mid 70's. J J Cale played the 3 main cities and then did a one off concert in the sports shed in our tiny little beach town (Mt Maunganui). We thought we were the coolest people on earth that night, and when I hear his music, I still do.

  • jammin' and chillin' at the same time :D

  • love this-havent heard in a long time! love JJ Cale! thank you.

  • frist time i heard this song had to find out more about the man! (that was in 73/74 ) still don't no much about him!

  • what a player, cale ,clapton and knopfler the greatest

  • gr8 song! years of listening to jj cale - reminds me of driving around the states headed for some place I've never been before. JJ Cale always made it better. Thx 4 posting. Totally dig the cover of this albumn. Crazy mama is an exceptional piece even with it's simplicity. Awesome! peace

  • jj is one bad ass songster

  • Solid

  • This is the "Coolest" ever recordered.....!!!!! in fact he has a bunch more ....JJ Cale

  • When I say this so is "too short" I don't don't mean that is an insult as I mean I love it so much, I wish it went on forever.

  • was this really recorded Sept '70 with Carl Radle. He was doing the Layla album at the same time. Too cool!

  • super blues

  • I can't lie...I'm dancin' ..and I'm a metal head ;P

  • My crazy mama was a Neapolitan from Oshkosh, for whom I should have gone down on bended knee to beg to marry me.

  • Outstanding artist, album and song! Also reminds me of free-er happier days!

  • best bluesman ever

  • Brilliant voice, brilliant song.

  • Is that Rocky Raccoon on the cover?

  • Amazing song, amazing album, but the songs are kind of short. Does anyone know why all of the songs hover around 2 minutes and 30 seconds?

  • @MrJas1991 JJ Cale has said that he writes them as demos for others to cover, the man is humble beyond words.

  • JJ has athe perfect prescription for the blues........

  • this song leaves you wanting more

    great music

  • reminds me of my first love

miss you after all these years debbie

  • Love this tune and the guitar work on it. Sounds like outright ganja ingesting music LOL. For some reason or other, when I first heard the tune, I had this mental image of rednecks in some kind of redneck scene (a-la- Smokey & the Bandit) madly sucking on their roaches and filling the room with secondhand smoke :). But now I've acclimatized to just thinking of it as a cool tune. Still think of the roach angle every now and then, though lmao.

  • EVER LOVED A CRAZY MAMA OH YEA!

    GarPeteY

    YAHOO .COM

  • @GarPeteY yup

  • Clear and quite Cool, all is Well......Sun goin down soon.

  • A perfect album.

  • crasy

  • 1 2 3.

  • too cool to find this had forgotten

  • Reminiscent, almost nostalgic...love this song.

  • Reminiscent...almost nostalgic!

  • People don't realize the sheer genious J.J had! So many of his songs were covered by Huge stars who made them Huge hits ,but it was J.J who penned the gems!

  • This sounds like he's just been wheeled into an upright position and woken up in front of the mic. Awesome.

  • Isn't that the best album cover ever! Don't know about sittin back with a bong, but I do enjoy his music. My older brother had this album and I loved that cover and his cool music. I found me a copy a few years ago and still enjoy his music. "River runs deep and the water is cold as ice" is one wicked song!!

  • Love this man!♥

  • I see where this is going, for me its a sittin in my recliner chair, with sum good buds/ hash, a smaller bong 16-18" and a nice warm temperature cruising the tv on mute :)

  • @MrGeltabs man you called that!!!

  • @MrGeltabs Back in the dat my girl and I went to the state park on the beach in Beaufort S.C. and shroomed all day and this cd Never left the player!!

  • I want my Christine Lakeland.

  • What a Great song, free as the breeze for any guitar strummin' hack to sing 'roun' the campfire any time at all

  • man this is some put-on-your-boots-calmly-walk-in-the-saloon-and-kick-some-mofos-asses music

  • @TheViolenceMan not really, it's more of a relax-in-your-favourite-chair-by-the-fire-with-a-drink-and-a-joint music......

But to each their own I guess

  • @TokyoCannabal Agree, man -- doing just that right now (no fire though)

a glass of Jack Daniels+Cyder, lighting up a stick of my home grown...

  • I'm falling in love with this man's music! First heard about him on a radio show on public radio here in Oklahoma. Check this page out on facebook. 99171981609

  • this is the song that made me love guitar before I knew what guitars were, that sound he gets is freaking incredible

  • Have the LP at home just AWSOME!

  • total genius! those who do his songs (Clapton, Lynerd Skynerd) butcher them

  • it is the coolest song you have ever heard.

  • great song...my momma showed it to me @ i have been hooked every since

  • If you google 'cool' you'll see J.J.'s picture.

  • Wanna see a cool vid? check out 'Hold On' on my channel.. p

  • fucking smooth as butter

    i love it :D

  • perfection, nothing to add, nothing to take away.

  • This album is the one you have when you only can choose one. Every song a classic in every sense of the word. I can't count how much money I have won over the years wagering that Lynard Skynard didn't write "Call me the breeze". What a great album that never seems to age, just gets better over time.

  • If only this song could go on forever

  • im back again,, that lead tone is just so darn good, what a song..

  • fond and faded memories of my years in san fransisco back in the mid eighties smoking humbold county weed and listening to the master

  • i recall hearing this song on a juke box in New Castle Indiana in 71,maybe 72 recognizing it was way better than the other single,Handbags & Gladrags by Rod Stewart.....that was playing at the time....

  • yo.

  • One of the best.

  • true. truest. well put justaintthatway. nice wording. couldn't even figure out what else to say besides you said it. if it aint the best way to put it, then i haven't ever seen a more perfect way to say anything ever.

  • I right here baby! Come on!!

  • manif that aint the greatest tone i ever heard for some lead, i aint ever it....

cant help but playing air guitar and squeeling... woooowooowowowoooooo...yeah

  • I agree. Coolest song I ever heard. I just wish it was longer.

  • Ma father bought this album as when it was released in 1971. I danced to this song with my mother and sister when I was six years old. (Good memories). To this day the music of JJ Cale ranks in the top five of my most played.

  • Man, JJ Cale is so laid back he's horizontal, love everything he ever did.

  • agree:)

  • very nice indeed!

  • Here it is my song!!!!! Love JJ Cale he wrote alot of really great songs of all time!

  • This is perfect for Mother's Day!

  • Amazin' just amazin' he still rocks!!!

  • J.J. Cale invented layed back

  • This song is so special to me. It was dedicated to me by the man I loved. I feel his presence when I listen to this song. I <3 you Bob.

  • very relaxing

  • great song great album - one of those few albums where EVERY song is great

  • Exactly correct- "Naturally" and "Really" are BOTH in my Top 10 albums....

  • if this aint the coolest song

    i ever heard then

i aint ever heard the coolest song

    i ever heard

  • @JustAintthatWay Word.

  • hahahahahahah

  • @JustAintthatWay that is the most well worded statement I have read in a very long time.

  • @JustAintthatWay Bless yours words brother :D

  • @JustAintthatWay

nuff said. outstanding and that slide is killer. I think it's rigged to a wah wah.....man, how this guy can write this kind of music play this guitar this well and still put together bands with slide guitarists like this....

    well one the greats.

the other one that kill me is Call the Doctor,...on this LP

  • @1Delta - Mac Gayden played the slide part. He got upset when they wouldn't let him do a second take. I think he's ok with it now... ;-) ... it pretty much makes the song.

  • @DougHendrix thanx man, for the info. I originally JJ Cale was playing the lead on slide, but thanx to YouTube I've learned different.

I totally agree, the slide lead and ofcourse Cale's voice and potent lyrics keep me listening to this over and over. Sounds like the slide is running through a wah wah pedal too. Is this right.

I'm not sure anything can sound sweeter than that slide with a wah wah. the phrasing is off the charts.

I've got a good friend who I am dying to play his slide!

  • @JustAintthatWay Ain't dat da truth

  • @JustAintthatWay I like the way u put that....and i'm inclined to agree whitcha.

  • @JustAintthatWay ...Your'e a POET........and you don't even Know It !!!

  • Listening to this is how I Relax from Work! : ) (<~Chillin', Smilin' and wearin shades.)~~~~~

  • Carl Radle plays IN THE POCKET ! !

  • JJ Cale, as always, yes.

  • check out bap kennedy ,they sound alike ,bap comes from belfast ireland, love him singing hey joe on you tube.

  • I remember this well. My mom still has the album. This was played many times through my youth along with Bob Dylan, Moody Blues, Doug Kershaw, Joe Cocker and to many more to mention. I was 7 when this came out. My 5 yr old started calling me crazy mama this past week and this tune popped in my head. I had to youtube it for my 5 and 11 yr old. Thanks for posting it!!

  • This one, this version of After Midnight, and Crying Eyes are all great. But this one is a little more special.

  • The Mother of All Mamas!

Greetings to one and all from Colin in wonderful Western Australia.

  • everybody wishes it were longer :)

  • THE best album of all time. the cover art is great too

  • Knew a little girl back in 1970, she loved J. J. Cale. I said who? Mmmhmmm.

  • one of the greatest mellow blues ballads ever. Eric Clapton try as he might could not touch this. although I love Clapton, this little enigmatic guitar riff Cale does is phenomenal. the words are as good as Dylan etc.

this is the Old Testament man,...

and the beautiful thing about the lyrics is every god damn one of them is true.

  • i could edit an extended mix and make it ten mins, reply if interested

  • Please make it longer!!!! That would be awesome

  • Interested!

  • yeh i agree it is short, wish it went on longer

  • It could just go on forever...

  • he's good

  • All Hail Mac Gayden and his mighty slide!

  • swampy ....love it

  • wow, carl radle took time away from Layla to record this with J.J! the piano coda was recorded only three days after this track was created! the famous electric masterpiece was recorded about two weeks before this.

  • If anybody has JJ Cale Teardrops in my Tequlia please post it is my all time fav Cale toon

    thanks

  • Awesome tune. I remember hearing it on sunny mornings in 1972.

  • The Master. All others fall short.

  • Crazy about JJ's stuff

  • Cale izze Cool

  • Oklahoma slow groove, call it the Tulsa Sound. A heap of blues mix with a splash of country as well as a generous amount of soul and yeah doggies, sounds good to me. BBQ, beer, and some herb on those balmy summer weekends. Man, ya know I think I like it here.
