Truly lovely! This is one of the few recordings I have heard that doesn't try to do it as fast as possible. The result is a much more intense and solid piece. Tell me, what orchestra is this and who is the conductor?
Great video! The tempo could have been faster. Even though Mendelssohn was very talented, he was a superhero in some ways. I guess Bach's ghost thanked Mendelssohn's ghost for making him known in history (*_*)
The first few seconds of this piece were used in the first season's "SCTV News" segments on that venerable comedy series; probably a spoof of "The Huntley-Brinkley Report's" use of the Scherzo from Beethoven's Ninth. In any case, I can no longer hear this opening without hearing in my head:
it's so cool; I've heard versions played much, much faster than this that have so much intensity and emotion. And yet, even though this version is a bit slower, it still retains that bright, light feeling and all the energy of the faster recordings. That's very hard for a musician to do; cudos to this orchestra!

This is an interesting recording, though it seems too loud and too slow for my taste. The orchestra is very heavy.

always reminds me of Hannibal Lecter.... in my mind I can hear the wrong note... poor Benjamin Raspel
but I really love that scherzo :)

Scherzo isn't Prestissimo! I think this is a good tempo for the composition

"And I'm Earl Camembert . . . "
" . . . and this is the SCTV News."

In fact, the original "tempo" written on the score would be even a bit slower!
