Yeah they were gifted the world title in 2001 jamie had a mistake in the short but they were held up to third to give them a chance to win. Anton and Elena skated clean at that championship and the chaplin program was a masterpiece they should have won easily.
Don't be in denial; the same thing happened to Bourne and Kraatz in ice dance at Nagano. They had a revolutionary, technically difficult and flawlessly executed rendition of "Riverdance", but got 4th. G&P posed for 4 minutes and got gold, despite even having been penalized in their compulsory for using lyrics in their rock and roll routine. Crooked judging has been happening for years, and it shamefully takes away from the talent of couples like B&S who DO deserve accolade.

As much as my patriotism will always root for these guys, I always liked B&S as well, so the fact that people are bickering as to who robbed who is completely irrelevant. The crooked judging just served to taint both performances, despite them being equally good in their own right.
Say what you want, but the fact that people think it's right to slag athletes on either side who CLEARLY possess talent is pathetic. You cannot deny how damn good this program was. It was 8 years ago.. get over it
According to ISU rules, the results of the competition cann't be changed after the medal ceremony, no matter what . So if anybody cheated there, it was ISU, acting agains it's own rules.
i remember yelling at the tv cause being canadian everyone felt ripped off. that was canadas medal!!!! but alas they were sooooo good about it!! this years team really bites though
I love that US audience booing those corrupt pig judges! This moment was stolen from these skaters, even though it was rectified in the end...still pisses me off.
Oh, and for what it's worth, I liked the B&S routine better on paper, but the performance was flawed, and definitely was the second best in this competition.
No there was a magic in this program that was not their in the Russian pairs, their artistry was amazing and their technique was also impressive. They deserved this win and no "bitching" was needed because everyone in that arean knew it as well. It doesn't matter if the French judge recanted her statement, she probably knew what it meant she'd get it from every angle and was trying to cover her own ass.
I thought this program was wonderful. B&S made a glaring error on the axels, and their throws were shaky and of poor quality compared to S&P. As well, Elena's hands are atrocious. That doesn't matter though, it is simply personal preference. The music being cheesy is also personal preference. S&P delivered the cleaner program and deserved the gold. They were solid, fluid and executed their elements with ease.
it is a borderline criminal act that Canadian and US judges or officials conspired to hand a shameful gold to this Canadian pair of Sele and Pelletier. As you all know, the French judge later recanted the original statement of an alleged deal involving Russians.
My vote goes to Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze (B/S), and there wouldn't have been any discussion regarding the outcome of this had it not been for a slight step-out. Still B/S is much more profound in their program and deliverance. The artistry and projection of it on the ice is much more profound and rather haunting and lasting than what Sale and Pelletier has to offer in its rendition of love story. Also the ice coverage by B/S is another aspect to note, which I believe is much more spacious.
ATTN: for anyone watching Sale/Pelletier and Berez/Sikhar videos, you will notice someone with the name of "liberalady1010" and "russie77". These persons are spammer posting nothing but unnecessary and biased rantings repeatedly with ignorance and lack of research borderlining hate. These two seem to have nothing better to do. For examples of these kinds of characters on youtube, simply look for all of the posts signed by "liberalady1010" and "russie77". Good samples of spam.
No one hates S&P, but lots of people were turned off by their behaviour at the Olympics and their undeserved wins, such as WC 2001. If you open your eyes a bit more and watch again their programmes, you'll agree with my comments.

Corrupt era in skating went from 70s-2002. Russians and former soviets were protected. In the late 90s, there was a filmed and witnessed "foot tapping" incident between judges, and then at the same time of this Olympics, the French judge broke down and cried and ADMITTED to there being a deal. Fans saw who performed and won, so they reacted to this and for all the many years. If you don't like it, then don't visit this video. Instead, go watch a Baiul video instead. S&P define pairs skating.
S&P define pairs skating? Just for you perhaps as you're Canadian but not for anyone else. If would be really sad if this pair with their bland choreography and easy technical elements defined figure skating. As for foot tapping - what happened at the WC 2001 in your opinion?
It was absolutely pathetic. S&P was the best of the "western-bloc" pairs, and for once it seemed like that could end the Russian domination in the pairs skating. But they failed to live up to the expectation. So their decision was - we don't have the abilities to edge the Russians off the podium so let's try any trick that'll work. Surely they should've had some respect for themselves...?

I think respect went right out the window when Scott Hamilton wailed, ' what HAPPENED?! They won that program!" he and Bezic became PR spokespersons instead of impartial. Sandra Bezic is NEVER impartial. She's been making controversial and partial remarks since CBS Worlds in 1990.The really galling thing?-the Canadian Federation bullying the IOC & the ISU into giving these 2 whiny idiots "a 2nd gold medal."Scotty won under the old system. I never went to a show w/these 2 in it.They retired.Good!
A few facts you omitted here. Once the turmoil was over, the French judge rescinded her statement and said she'd been forced into "admitting there had been a deal" by the western-block judges and media. Her final words hold it that B&S were the deserved winners.
Canadians were mediocre and already totally forgotten. B&S will always stay in the golden fund of figure skating. Their influence on figure skating was huge and still it is.
There's no sense to compare these two pairs - they competed in two different leagues.
Try 40 years of cheating by Russians behind the scenes & everyone in the free freaking world KNEW the Canadians won the 2002 Olympics & everyone in that arena saw who the better team was & that was why we got the gold we rightfully deserved!
Russians never will admit cheating & corruptions & I would not expect it too change since the Ice dancers this year that won Worlds SUCKED badly too! LMAO it's such a well known thing but only Russians are clueless I guess!
haha Zelina! do you really believe the things you write?)) 40 years of cheating! wow! I'll give you an advice - just go and study figure skating history, watch champions video, compare to not champions' video and etc. And then come back and we'll talk about.
Now there's no sense to discuss things with you - you just seem to be an uber-fan of S/P and don't know anything what was happening before they appeared in figure skating.

The reality is there WAS a judging scandal, and we'll never know what would have been. I agree with the decision to award both pairs the gold medal. Let's not hold Sale & Pelletier OR Bereshnay and Sikhardulidze responsible. Under the new system, B&S may have won. But the old system awarded perfection and S&P deserved to win, too. S&P would have definitely upped their levels to compete with B&S.
Why bring up it being an "old" program when Mishkutunik/Dmitriv used the 91 for 92 and Petrenko used the same short 3 years in a row? They still had to skate it!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It was a mediocre program that's why. It didn't have any of the extensions of Elena and Anton's. An illegal hand-hold on Sale's leg by pelletier. The lean, the stretch were non-existent. To say it's " cheesy" music is an understatement. And they fell in a heap near the end of their OP.
These two ruined skating w/their whining-the end result being a CoP that makes no sense and has even LESS accountability.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes... it was a fluke. But it was still a MISTAKE and certainly did not rate 1st place ordinals from the Canadian or German judges. This was the Original Program and there's no room for error in the OP. Look at Elena and Anton's OP. There's no comparison as they were spot on. Better still LISTEN to it on Eurosport w/out the VERY biased commentaters from NBC.
I admit that it was a perfect program, but it was an old one inthose days of Figure Skating it was imprtant to bring some new things it was a 3 year old program!!
And I liked the program of Bereshnaya sikharulidze more than this one, i was ok with the judges decision!
The soviet bloc countries really had the advantage by stacking the deck in their favor. More countries on the judging panel. Libralady1010, there was corruption with the french judge. Who corrupted her? The bully former soviet judges.
Imagine B&S skating to Love Story? That would be something out of this world. S&P gave a very shallow interpretation and failed to live up to the reputation of the music. The first time I watched their performance I liked it, but the more I watch it and pay attention the more disappointing I find it, both technically and artistically.
Shallow interpretation, no quality of skating, fairly easy programme. A very over-rated performance. If there was an corrupt judging, it was on the part of the western judges awarding such high marks to S&P.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i watched that performance on tv i remember...it really moved me..they were perfect! no question about it! but now with the new judging system they've still wouldn't won the gold medal...the russians who i really like were very good except for the little mistake...anyway it's good that the whole scandal had finished by awarding the canadians!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nobody except for the North American commentators and North American media said that S&P absolutely deserved the gold. They skated a simpler programme cleanly. B&S skated a more difficult and sophisticated programme with a minor error. Either could've won, and it would've been by a small margin.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
How is it possible that a second gold medal be printed? There was no re-marking exercise. The marks had been awarded, that's the end. In figure skating there're so many controversial decisions, this was no special one.
It was the anti-Russian hysteria that drove ICU to make the decision.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Once the turmoil was over, the French judge rescinded her statement and said she'd given B&S the gold in all honesty. But the West European and North American media forgot to publish that...
Yes. B&S were superior in their interpretation and technique. Can gaurantee, if these Olympics had been in Europe or Asia w/someone else beside Sandra Bezic-and Scott Hamilton shrieking his ill-timed remarks-there wouldn't have been the idiocy of a "2nd Gold medal".That the ISU and IOC fell for it continues to astound. All because S&P never met a camera they didn't like-constantly repeating a variation of "we wuz robbed." Guess NM & Artur Dmitriev should've demanded a Gold medal in 1994 as well.
I know, I still can't get over the fact that ISU fell for this hysteria. There are examples of much more questionable judging all around, yet no other team whined into getting a second gold medal printed. How can you award a gold medal with no re-marking? The marks had been out, and no one changed them - on what basis was the second gold awarded? It all seems very fishy to me.
id be demanding my gold too if i knew i deserved it obviously they deserved it not because they were americans but because they did an excellent job the uy on the the russian team messed up so ya whateva done and over with
simplemente los mejores...todavia me pregunto por que le dieron la de oro a los otros imbesiles... si existe la perfeccion y entrega, ellos lograron hacerlo

I couldn't understand why these two pair skaters demanded the gold when they must have known in their heart that their program and their skating were inferior to B&S in term of techniques and content. These two performed more with their faces than with their blades.
I am sorry, but your comment is completely out of line. To start with, this program was significantly better than that skated by B&S - perhaps not quite as hard on paper, but B&S made errors that S&P did not.
Second of all, it was the IOC that demanded the second gold medal when it was revealed that the French and Russian federations had agreed to vote swap. Get your facts straight. All these two did was skate the best free program in the competition.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I disagree. The above comment is fair. Artistically, B&S are far superior to S&P. Their program is filled with tricks and connecting steps and moves. S&P are just skating from element to element making faces and aimless gestures.
I remember watching it with my mother (former pro ballerina). I was convinced that S&P had won. But my Mom told me that B&S's artistic marks would be higher. And she was right.
The French judge should have been forced to take a polygraph test. I am sure she was lying.
It wasn't the Canadian pair that was demanding the gold medal. They took their silver medals just fine. It was the media and public outcry. The IOC disqualified the French judge and nulified her score therefore creating a tie between B&S and S&P. Please don't bash the skaters.
Thank you ... this Gold for Gold in the Ice Dancing and yes it was Marina Annisina... that was the cattlist to start all this ... and it had been going on for some time....
Basically, The Russians controlled the Salt Lake results. Simple as that really. They sacrificed Lobecheva and Averbuch in the Dance (who should have won IMHO) making a deal with the French that They'd give the Dance gold to France if France gave they pairs gold to Russia. The Chinese Judge put them second because he was hoping S&Z would come out, land the quad and then he'd be able to give them gold. Ukraine were probably bought with a lot of Euros as were Poland.
It was so pathetic and ruined the sport, but at least everyone got to see that the Judges had been scamming the competitions for YEARS way back when Oksana Baiul was able to win the world and Olympic title with 5.5 worth of technical merit.
You are retarded. Lobacheva and Averbuch sacrificed, LOL! L & A were a team who their whole careers only had one bronze at worlds, that which they barely won even, and the win Olympic silver and nearly gold and they were sacrificed!?! Their compulsories were crap and they were lucky to be in contention for any medal after those and they were 2nd even in those. Your whole arguments are full of shit.
Forgive me if I haven't mastered every saying in the English. The fact that I only started to learn the lanaguge some 6 years ago is at fault. Although sometimes I wonder why I bother since English speakers don't seem to be the brightest bunch of people on the planet and are often not worth the conversation.
Whatever, the fact is your argument is your overall argument is silly since L&A are in fact an overscored team that benefited from politics. There is no way they were sacrificed. They should never have been so close to the gold medal as they were, and the Lithunians who only came 5th probably deserved the silver over them. So regardless what the pairs results should have been, L&A were in no way sacrificed, they were in fact overmarked and overrated as usual.
That is complete injustice! Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze were so overrated. I did not enjoy watching their skating half as much as I liked watching Sale and Pelletier. This program was flawless, technically and artistically. So much passion and intricate steps within. I do believe a judging block had to do with the results of this competition. Absolutely ridiculous.
Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze "had as many as six flaws in their program, notably Sikharulidze's stumble on the side-by-side double Axel." By comparison, Sale and Pelletier were "a miracle of unity." Then, wrote Lacayo, "came the astonishing scores". While the Canadians posted high technical scores, the Russians beat them in the presentation category, and were placed first by five of the nine judges. "The crowd of some 16,000 at the Salt Lake Ice Center exploded in boos."
Richard Lacayo doesn't know much about figure skating, as well as many other journalists. Berezhnaya&Sikharulidze had only three minor flaws- step out on 2 axel,a throw landed forward and bad catch on twist. Sale&Pelletier had four mistakes: bad catch on twist, salchow throw landed forward, lost the unison on 2axels and spins. In addition Canadians had an illegal lift which they should have been deducted for, but they weren't. And Russians were rightfully given higher presentation scores.
The whole pairs field is so weak nowdays, that it's hard to tell who are the best. Probably only Savchenko& Sholkowy stand out, the rest are equally lackluster.
Yeah I agree, they all suck. Very sad. This is probably the worst pairs field ever. The Zhangs are far overscored though. The Germans are not that amazing, and I wish they would skate clean programs finally, but they are clearly the best of the current field.
In Fairness...this would score bugger all in COP. The new system is so demanding. Hell, the only do a 5 revolution sit spin for the side by side spin here. The lifts are all level ones and they don't have the pressure of the one handed entry and super difficult dismount. They didn't have to think about changes of edges/positions in the spins, or change of hand in the death spiral. the sport is different now. Well never see beautiful prgrams like these again because COP doesn't allow it. :(

I think I totally agree. They don't compare to any of the Russian greats. I don't think The commentators should not have acted like they had it in the bag just because they skated cleanly. B&S were clearly better even with the minor flaw. There was nothing brilliant about this performance. I think the standards have dropped considerably if this is considered brilliant????
Why people are even debating the scandal is ridiculous since the French judge admitting that they made a deal with the Russian's prior to the program. I feel bad for both the Canadian and Russian skaters as they were not treated with respect, instead used as political pawns.
The story about the deal was told by journalists, the French judge never said anything like this. She told she was pressured by the head of french skating federation. Only two days later she admitted that she was misunderstood and the pressure came from CANADIAN Federation to vote for Canadians and it started already before 2001 Worlds .I beleive North American media didn't scream about that.
they could not have skated any better. regardless of the outcome and the media frenzy and the continued backlash from those that won't let it go on either side, they should be proud of what they were able to accomplish in such a short time. Both teams were caught up in the middle of NBC's tirade and both suffered from it at least at first. Both teams have gone on to bigger and better things now, all four are huge champs in my book!
Celestial a falta de otra palabra, es lo mejor que eh visto en toda mi vida,, inspiran , enamoran, hacen sentir al maximo felicidades sale y pelletier :D
The only thing uglier than those sweat stains under Sale's arms was that silly snowball fight choreography and her incessant whining and infantile tears about having come in second. No sportsmanship or grace whatsoever! She fell flat on her ass in the short program, did she forget about that?
Can...anyone tell me what the other song is that's mixed in there at 2:15?? I've listened to the entire soundtrack from the movie and can't find it...though I heard a hint of that theme in some of it.
They are both great pairs, different styles each. They were also both at the top during this time. But it was about what was on the ice that night. Sale/Pelletier did not only the "requirements" and content, but they performed. They showed us something more, and perhaps it was the program and their comfort with it, but it was no doubt the love between the two. This translated onto the ice and with the height of the occasion. We rarely get to see something like this happen. They really won.
You've clearly never worn a figure skating outfit. Those outfits are death when it comes to sweat. Some now get them made with underarmour material 'cause they were just horrendous.
En el programa largo canada supero los grandes errores de los rusos, hay que saber de patinaje para poder opinar los de canada la merecian, ya basta de la corrupción dentro del patinaje otros paises lo merecen . La verdad q

The most overrated team in history. Jamie cant do singles jumps for shit, they have dinky baby throws compared to the Chinese and Russian pairs, they dont have anywhere near the beautiful lines and positions of the Russians, and their nauseating one-theme programs made me want to puke. Thank god they are gone, pairs skating is much better with them doing diaper duty, although I feel for Americans and Canadians who have to digest their lame excuse of TV commentary.

Do you know why G&G are considered to be the greatest?
Because of their perfect unison combined with high speed and gorgeous body lines. Unison, speed and lines of Berezhnaya&Sikharulidze are superior to those of G&G, speed especially. Russian pair dominated the sport from 1998 to 2002 being head and shoulders above any other team in presentation. Sale&Pelletier just had one mistake less but very simple program.
Sale/Pelletier are not even the 2nd best pair ever from Canada, let alone the world. Gordeeva and Grinkov are renowned even today and talked about often. So are Rodnina and her partners, the Protopopovs, even Shen and Zhou. Sale and Pelletier will only be remembered, if they are at all, because of the so called North American media cooked up judging scandal. Their skating itself left no legacy or impact and they already almost forgotten.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@russianskatingfan-S&P will be remembered more for infamy: starting this process of " we wuz robbed" that has devolved into this awful, odious CoP's. That's their "legacy,"Oh and NBC could find better commentators.Put the blame squarely on Scottie & Miz Bezic as much as S&P for this awful CoP's system. They became spokespersons for S&P using the bullypit of TV.Just as many people loathe them w/their shrieking as much as this CoP's.Scott w/his wailing,"What HAPPENED?! They won that program!" NOT!!
Oh, I forgot, it's NBC's fault that the crap hit the fan and everyone found out what REALLY happened. Not because one of the judges decided to let it slip that the numbers were fudged.
If we want to talk about someone whining like a little bitch because they felt someone "robbed" them of the gold, go talk to Plushenko. At least S&P had the good sportsmanship to accept their silver like REAL athletes and not storm off the podium afterwards.
Oh, and talking crap to the media about a fellow skater who looked up to you for YEARS, just because he happened to skate better than you and win the gold fairly? Tres gauche. Lysacek didn't deserve having that happen to him, especially by one of his idols.
As much as I can't stand Plushenko, you can't deny that he's usually ALWAYS perfect. However, I was disappointed in his free skate, and I was DISGUSTED by his behaviour afterwards.
oh god... Zellina, you are really funny. Jealosy? After 40 years of a smashing dominance in figure skating?
Russians already showed everything to the world and the most important thing which they showed was how to skated.
BTW Virtue & Moir are among those who were taught by russians. It's a real fun to read your comments about them considering that their coaches are russians)))
And they actually didn't show the world anything on the recent world championship.
In the middle they don`t skate so much side by side, but form a unit on the ice with fluently dancing looking at each other! Light, fresh, and fluently, not only going with strong speed through the whole program, but with soul. I like the understatement and pureness of their costumes! It underlines their very natural style, they dress similar to reality! She has certainly the better presentation in comparison to Elena by showing more emotions. They are the best looking couple I`ve ever seen.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They didn't mantain the speed through the whole program (B&S did) .In the middle there is 40 sec pause where they are doing "the choreography" basicly without moving across the ice and resting .Not only they didn't had any "units" but there were no spirals as well. What you call units was done by B&S at huge speed, here was none. And finally not the costumes nor the emotions showing have anything to do with the presentation mark .
Main difference: Anton made a major fault like so often!)at the jump - Elena jumped right in front of Anton in order to hide this expected fault a little bit - Jamie and David skates clean through the whole program (!) - so what are you on about?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The lost of the balance on the exit isn't a major mistake - they lost 0.1 in the technical mark but won with the presentation. Jamie&David didn't skate clean - there was a mistake on the twist and illegal hip lift. In addition the program wasn't as difficult as this of Russian's -lacked transitions, close holds, dance steps, speed ,too much posing without moving, too simple spins and spirals, there are breaks of unison and very conservative choreography.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry, taking my words back. I have just watch again that program from GP final - transitions are better than in "Love Story" and slightly better choreography still not impressive but that's it. Orchid also had a pause in the middle, not many close positions, too simple spins, only one DS,one simple spiral and Russians have much superior skating skills. May be their program to Wagner would have better chances.
Please tell me which was the illegal hip lift? I have been following skating forever, but don't pretend to know all the technical stuff. (I miss things like that and usually can't tell from TV if the skater is taking off from an inside or outside edge!)
In the rulebook :'For all pair skating lifts the partners may give each other assistance only through hand-to-hand, hand-to-arm, and hand-to-body grips. The movements (other than small lifts) in which the lady is supported by leg holds entirely off the ice are also prohibited and marks must be deducted" . The deduction is -0.1 in both marks.
It looks as though S&P always did this lift this way. Whether it was through ignorance (hard to imagine at their level), or thinking the rule could be bent or hoping to just get away with it, who knows. The thing of it is, this lift is a trademark for them. I'd like to think it could be done legally and still have the same effect.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The lift itself is fine - the problem is with the grip. Why they do it that way? Most probably they can't do it in the right way and hope that judges will ignore, which they did. If I recall right Sarah Abitbol had the same problem and they were deducted for this.
Besides they had no choice - they already had two toe lasso lifts in the program, they needed another kind of lift for the variety of moves. Russians for an example, showed three different types of lifts.
Interestingly enough, I happened to watch Rodnina and Zaitsev's 1980 Olympic Gold performance today. Hadn't watched it in years. Dick Button jumped on them immediately for that same type of illegal grip on a lift. They did it again later and he told Jim McKay that there should be mandatory deductions. Can't recall if any were taken, but they had a commanding lead anyway.
I think the artistic impression is certainly too low (= too much 5.8!) The mood of Russian programme is the same during the whole program whereas the mood changes in the middle here. A 6.0 for artistic impression is justified when the performance makes you forget all the technical difficulties like here! It the judges (old) taste for boring classic ballet, they should update their view for contemporary interpretations (look at the great costumes here!)It is a very natural style! 6.0!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You don't know much about the presentation mark, do you? Probably you don't know nothing about choreography as well. Had you ,you would notice that Berezhnaya&Sikharulidze used the classical music but their choreography was innovative and conteporary, while Sale&Pelletier used the conteporary pop music but their choreography was conservative and old-fashioned.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's a nice performance. But the overall skating of B&S is so much better in every respect, they had to make huge mistakes not to win. Even the American commentator, "whatever the hell her name" (or is it Canadian Sandra Bezic?) admits that the Russians' program was more diffucult. B&S also made a brand new LP, the Canadians skated an old program, which is much easier. B&S should have won on all grounds, and it's only the American media scandal that gave S&P the gold.
Does anyone else agree that David Pelletier is the hottest male skater ever? i mean not just his good looks, but his gentleman like quialites and his goofiness. Did you see him act all crazy when they performed with Barenaked ladies? *sigh* David is dreamy

They were solid, fluid and executed their elements with ease.
courtneysara 2 years ago
it is a borderline criminal act that Canadian and US judges or officials conspired to hand a shameful gold to this Canadian pair of Sele and Pelletier. As you all know, the French judge later recanted the original statement of an alleged deal involving Russians.
rinkjanitor 2 years ago
My vote goes to Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze (B/S), and there wouldn't have been any discussion regarding the outcome of this had it not been for a slight step-out. Still B/S is much more profound in their program and deliverance. The artistry and projection of it on the ice is much more profound and rather haunting and lasting than what Sale and Pelletier has to offer in its rendition of love story. Also the ice coverage by B/S is another aspect to note, which I believe is much more spacious.

How is it possible that a second gold medal be printed? There was no re-marking exercise. The marks had been awarded, that's the end. In figure skating there're so many controversial decisions, this was no special one.

Yes. All because S&P never met a camera they didn't like-constantly repeating a variation of "we wuz robbed." Guess NM & Artur Dmitriev should've demanded a Gold medal in 1994 as well.
libralady1010 2 years ago
I know, I still can't get over the fact that ISU fell for this hysteria. There are examples of much more questionable judging all around, yet no other team whined into getting a second gold medal printed. How can you award a gold medal with no re-marking? The marks had been out, and no one changed them - on what basis was the second gold awarded? It all seems very fishy to me.

Iwantvoids 3 years ago 45
It was so pathetic and ruined the sport, but at least everyone got to see that the Judges had been scamming the competitions for YEARS way back when Oksana Baiul was able to win the world and Olympic title with 5.5 worth of technical merit.
Iwantvoids 3 years ago
You are retarded. Lobacheva and Averbuch sacrificed, LOL! L & A were a team who their whole careers only had one bronze at worlds, that which they barely won even, and the win Olympic silver and nearly gold and they were sacrificed!?! Their compulsories were crap and they were lucky to be in contention for any medal after those and they were 2nd even in those. Your whole arguments are full of shit.

In Fairness...this would score bugger all in COP. The new system is so demanding. Hell, the only do a 5 revolution sit spin for the side by side spin here.

If you are wondering which Canadian pairs are clearly superior to flash-in-the-pan one program wonder Sale/Pelletier they would be:
Underhill/Martin- clearly
Wagner/Paul- dominated for 4 years
Dafoe/Bowden- unlike Sale/Pelletier true originators in the sport who were really robbed of an Oly gold.
Brasseur/Eisler- Jamie could only dream of doing the huge tricks Isabelle could.
Dube/Davison will even be better eventually.

The lost of the balance on the exit isn't a major mistake - they lost 0.1 in the technical mark but won with the presentation. Jamie&David didn't skate clean - there was a mistake on the twist and illegal hip lift. In addition the program wasn't as difficult as this of Russian's -lacked transitions, close holds, dance steps, speed ,too much posing without moving, too simple spins and spirals, there are breaks of unison and very conservative choreography.

OK, then could thay have won with a clean version of their Orchid program?

Yes. However they left the new program not being able to skate it flawlessly.

This is the lift with changes of positions. The problem is that David supports her with his hand on the upper part of her thigh instead of her hip.
thesunny2007 3 years ago
In the rulebook :'For all pair skating lifts the partners may give each other assistance only through hand-to-hand, hand-to-arm, and hand-to-body grips. The movements (other than small lifts) in which the lady is supported by leg holds entirely off the ice are also prohibited and marks must be deducted" . The deduction is -0.1 in both marks.

Thanks for helping me, sunny.

Russians for an example, showed three different types of lifts.
thesunny2007 3 years ago
Interestingly enough, I happened to watch Rodnina and Zaitsev's 1980 Olympic Gold performance today. Hadn't watched it in years. Dick Button jumped on them immediately for that same type of illegal grip on a lift. They did it again later and he told Jim McKay that there should be mandatory deductions. Can't recall if any were taken, but they had a commanding lead anyway.

The first lift was a small non-overhead lift ,there are no limitations in such moves :)

I have to say that I prefer Sergej Grinkov to him:)Oh..and Alexej Yagudin...hot as hell..
