This is who the band on the Muppets was modeled after. This and Dr Hook that is. And yes, a deuce was a popular hot rod back then. The Beach Boys even had "Little Deuce Coupe" as a hit song.

@mrbrockpeters Its a simple expression meaning that something essentially good will always survive and come to be seen for what it is, the opposite of something untrue being "found out". I think its Northern, though I am not.
@gwyntube The 'Boss' sucks. Manfred Mann is considered not even remotely as 'important' a so-called rock'n'roll artist as 'The Boss,' & yet Mann's version of "Blinded by the Light' is a hundred times better than Bruce's own version on his first album. That jackass 'the Boss' had no idea whatsoever what the poetic possiblities of his own song were & would've killed it in that pigeonholed working class soap operas he specializes in. It took a progressive rocker like Mann to give it wings.
@2000tc88 More like a hundred times better than Bruce's own version on his first album. That jackass 'the Boss' had no idea whatsoever what the poetic possiblities of his own song were & would've killed it in the pigeonholed gloomy working class soap operas he specializes in. It took a progressive rocker like Mann to give it wings.
Revved up like a douche you know the rumor in the night ! Bruce says 'deuce' but Mann says DOUCHE. Just that alone makes it a better version !
Did you actually know this sound is about a car. I would love for someone to tell me what car he is singing about. he says the type of motor if you pay attention.
@dean31384 You is on the crake isn't you! The only car that he (Springsteen) mentions is when he says he was "revved up like a deuce" (i.e., a deuce coupe, a 1932 (thirty-deuce) Ford coupe) heavily modded and used in street racing from the 30s through the 70s. That is, he's all fired up; he's going on all cylinders. But it is as if he's going so fast that the oncoming lights blind him. It's a metaphor for the rush he experienced early in his career. There is no reference to a motor.
@you2besux like a hundred times better ! That idiot 'The Boss' totally stifled the poetic possiblities of his own friggin song in that gloomy, working-class grease-ball soap-opera milieu he specializes in. It took a progressive-rock band to realize the full poetic potential of Bruce's song in the transcendent, universal technicolor setting where it belongs. God wrote that song through Bruce & Bruce was too stupid to give it its due so Mann owed it to God to do a proper version of it. .
@cmosco67 only if you like gloomy, working-class grease-monkey soap operas ! Listening to Springsteen is a truly depressing experience. Like watching "On the Waterfront' a hundred times. Listening to Mann's version of "Blinded by the Light," on the other hand, is one of the few transcendent listening experiences in all of popular music. That's why Mann's version is a classic rock legend while Bruce's version went nowhere like it deserved. .
@dean31384 only the choirs is about a deuce coupe. hence the lyrics "revved up like a deuce, another runner in the knight". the rest of the song is about growing up in the 70s. I know all of the lyrics and I don't know any line that refers to an engine. Can you quote the verse?
Revved up like a douche you know the rumor in the night ! Bruce says 'deuce' but Mann says DOUCHE. Just that alone makes it a better version ! Bruce was into cars & shit, a grease-monkey working class dude so he puts 'deuce coupe' hot rod references in his songs. It took a genius like Mann to change it to DOUCHE on purpose to make the tune really work.
@MrSpooky118 Awesome, yes, but nothing like it? Did you forget about Soul Train? What about American Bandstand? As for songs, what about their mighty Quinn from 1967, or Meatloaf Bat out of hell or thousands of others that are equally fantastic?
@Thorgiersson With all due respect to 2 iconic shows, AB and ST were dance shows not a concert setting like Midnight Special and they played records as well as live acts. MS was just live acts. As for the song, of course there are tons of great songs icluding those you mentioned. It was just one person's opinion
@fixitdude74 your joking, right? of course it is, but everyone butchered it like that, however, those of us with a modicum of class can remember that fact quietly and with our rubbing it in everyone's face. but class is something Orthodox seems to lack. I'm sure he is anything but Orthodox.
With her bolders over her shoulder and trip of acid in the ground. Blinded by light revved up like one dueching in the river tonight. My god its endless the lyrics we can make out of this.
wrapped up like a douche, ya know the mower in the night...........Manfred Mann made it way too easy to have fun with this song. Been doing it sinse it came out lol. Their best tune, and a superb version over Springstein's by far. Some sillicone sister with a managing mister..........lol

@fixitdude74 your joking, right? of course it is, but everyone butchered it like that, however, those of us with a modicum of class can remember that fact quietly and with our rubbing it in everyone's face. but class is something Orthodox seems to lack. I'm sure he is anything but Orthodox.

Always wondered what Bruce thinks about this version. My guess would be thanks for the millions.

You never see performances like this anymore. This has incredible counterpoints and tempo changes. Now it's all about fancy costumes and dancers.

Manfred Mann took a big lump of springsteen coal and turned it into an all time classic. If you can't see it you've been blinded by the light!
