I have two dogs a 3 month toy poodle and a 2yr old yorkie that I am trying to potty train but I am having trouble because they prefer to go around house instead of the pads HELP ME
Hi. OK you need some kind of boundaries in your home fast! If they go on like that for a while, it will be really hard to re-train them not to do it.
First, pick an area where you want them to potty. Then GATE the area. They are not allow to roam free without supervision until they go potty.
Then clean up all of the area that were peed on before.Try not to leave them in the bedroom at night without gating their area because they will just potty around your bed or surrounding area.
When I first bring a puppy home, you said to put him in the "potty room" right away until it poops/pees. But how will the puppy know to poo/pee on the potty pads instead of the bed? Thank you :)
Hi. Good question. We ask him to go potty while we are putting him on the pads/ paper (that way he can relate the 2 together)
And usually puppies have the instinct to go on papers/ pads. Although if you you get a lazy breeder that don't clean their puppy's area often, you can get a puppy that's used to sleep on soiled area (but that's why you screen the breeder well before purchasing).
If the puppy make mistake, just clean the bed well (make sure no pee smell), then do it again.
I'm doing this and my 11 week old havanese hates being in the playpen. I lock him in when I know he's gotto go. Afterwards he starts crying. At night he sleeps well in it inside his crate but after going potty he wakes me up wimpering. I have to take the crate out and lock him in it so I can get some sleep. How do I get him used to being in the playpen?
Ok, he thinks he is being locked in and he doesn't know why.
Does he go potty when you put him in the playpen or he just whimpers ?
Some dogs are able to do it without the playpen. If he is more comfortable inside his crate, then you can just do the crate training.
Lock him in his crate at night, then ask him to go potty when he wakes up. Ask him through out the day to go potty and only leave him in the playpen when you are not home (or if he prefers inside the crate is also fine)
1. No, the dogs get treats when they go (so if they go potty then poop .. kind of at the same time, they get 1 treat. If they go potty then come to you, you can give them treat & another one when they poop after. We don't want to discourage them by sending them away) Anyway the treats are only when they are in training, once they are pottytrained, they won't care if they are getting treats or not.
I just rescued a 1 year old miniature pomeranian 2-3 days ago and I noticed he has had a few accidents and was just wondering if you could offer me any advice on how to get him to stop having accidents in the house. We are his 3rd and final owners and so Im sure trust goes into play as well. I was told from the couple we got him from that he was abused by his first owners. We have done nothing but loved him and been more patient with him considering his background. Any suggestions?
Hi, it is usually very difficult for any puppy or a new dog to understand their potty area. It's best to make heir area smaller by using gates/ playpen so they don't get lost in the new house and make accidents.
If you are planning to potty train him outside, just make sure you don't let him roam around the whole house before he goes to potty. Know his potty schedule is always best, like how many times a day and how often. If he is going inside, make sure you have a gated area for it.
That way you can close he door while you wait for him to go. Pick a low to no traffic area and have treats near by to reward him. You must ask him to go potty at the first few months, so you must know his schedule, for example: he has to go when he wakes up from nap/ sleep, after meal, etc.
Hi! This is very nice and I will train with my dog with this method. Question tho, what if the dog doesn't pee and just ends up sleeping though the night? Do I just let him be? And if he potty during the night but we are already sleeping, so we can't let him out, so just leave him there until the next morning and until we catch him peeing again, reward him, then let him out?
First you must know his schedule, that way you know when he should go to pee (if he goes to pee before he sleeps than he should go when you ask him to potty).
Usually they go once in the middle of the night. (If you want to leave him inside for now until he's potty trained, you can). Just make sure you make a big enough "potty room" for him to roam around (that way he is not bored and won't chew the pee pee pads).
In the morning when he wakes up, he should want to go potty again, cont >>
Also I plan to leave him home when working. So if he sleeps thru the night, in the morning, even if he pee on the pad but I'll be leaving so that's kind of just leaving him inside for a very long time. Will that be a problem? Thanks a lot!
Let him out for 5 min and ask him to "go potty" inside again, close the gate . This time should be quick, then reward him once he potty, let him out, and make sure he can be out and play before you go to work (because he will be in there again).
Also make sure if you want to leave him in there, make the area really big so he can play, even a whole room is fine if you have tile floor.
He will sleep most of the time while you are not home. Maybe pee and poop once.
When you're home, let him out for a few min then ask him to go potty again (watch for a fresh puddle of pee, he might just went before you are back. Eventually this is what he will do so he can be out as soon as you are home) After potty then he can roam free for 1 -2 hrs then you ask him to go in to potty again.
You should follow his potty schedule. Some dogs go every half hour, some goes every 3 hrs.
Eventually you just leave the gate open & he goes in and out himself. Later you remove gate.
Thank you for posting this. I've got a problem. My aunt just acquired an 18-month old poodle mix from off the street. She had been on the street of our neighborhood for at least a month, I think. We have brought her in, and she sometimes go to the bathroom outside, but most of the time, she pees on the bathroom floor, NOT the puppy pad. How do I correct this? I want to associate with going to the bathroom OUTSIDE and/or on the puppy pad; not the floor. Please help me.
She is so used to being outside on the street where she can just go wherever she wants, so training her will be a bit tricky.
First you can not let her roam everywhere. You must close all doors to the rooms and bathrooms for now until she is potty trained.
Write down her potty schedule, Gate the area where you want her to go in the house, and ask her to go in the gated area to potty OR take her outside to potty according to schedule.
Don't miss her potty time, She will learn eventually.
yo everybody if youll have a chance can youll please check out my video and tell me what you think just search" smartest pitbull pup" or "956razorramon" on youtube.. my pitbull dro is only 14 weeks old..thanks
Great video thanks for the advice! I have a 6 month old dachshund and we also have a gated area where we put her toilet + bed inside. My husband insists to place the toilet near the gate opening because that's where she spend most of her time sitting/waiting to get out. Is there any reason why the toilet has to be put far away from the gate?
Also how long does it take to train a dog on average? we've spent 3 weeks now and still no progress, if we don't put her back to pee every 30 mins (and close the gate and let her out again ONLY after she's finished), she will not go back in by herself. Not to mention she sometimes does that on the floor not on the toilet.
Usually 3 days to 1 weeks for puppies & older dogs do take longer.
For a 6 months old, usually they go potty every 1 hr to 2 hrs. I think 30 min is too fast (she might be wondering why is she there way too often & refuse to go in there). Do you have her potty schedule? Does she always go every 30 min? If not then maybe you should try to wait longer before you ask her to go back in again. And make sure you don't carry her to the potty room, she has to walk there on her own so she knows the route.
Hi, Yes, the toilet has to be on the far side of the gate opening because you want to prevent them from stepping on their own urine/ fecal. They will wait for you by the opening, so you don't want them to lay on the pee pee pads (especially the soiled ones).
I answered the other question as well. Please let me know how it goes.
Try to wait a little longer before you ask her to go back in there (follow her potty schedule) and flip the potty side (put in away from the gate opening)
Hi there, great video! I'm going to attempt at this method when I get my Yorkshire Terrier puppy. I just have one question - when you have locked the pup up in the cage ect. and your waiting for it to go potty, what if it doesn't potty on the pad, but it does it on the floor? I don't have my dog yet, but just wondering on how to fix this problem just incase this does happen. Thanks!
Hi, usually if the layout of the potty room is correct, it will not happen. Either you move the pads further from the bed (if he/ she is a bigger pup) or closer if he/ she is a tiny size pup.
And somedogs can't aim too well, so you can add extra pads in the potty room.
But experience with the lay out. It should work fine.
If you are going to potty train your dog outside eventually, it is best to just "not" train them to go indoor / in house potty training (because those techniques contradict one another).
It can get confusing. It is best to let them know that they can't go inside at all.
To remove urine smell on floor (very easy, use any solution that is safe for pets). On carpet is a bit harder to do, but there are so many new product now that you can safely apply to your carpet.
Well, I'm getting a Pug this upcoming Saturday, it's 2 months old. I'm gonna try your technique since I believe it's looks fun to do it. I see you are using potty pads...what about using regular newspaper? Or even more, what about those Potty patch mats? They look nice so the dog can pee on it, but they don't say if it's good for the dogs to poo on it. Cheers!
I think this technique is easy to understand for pups, but you have to do most of the work at first and guiding them to go in/ out the potty room. Also write down their potty times and make sure you select the potty area carefully.
Newspaper will do (it's just not water proof on the bottom, so the pee will touch the floor through the paper).
I have never use potty patch mats (is that the grass looking one?).
When the pug is not in the potty room, where should she be at? If I'm correct I should introduce the pug a new room every week? Can the dog sleep in a box at the start?Because I think she should not sleep in the potty room). What about her sleeping in my room? Can I make the potty room in the garden too? And yeah, they are the grass looking ones.
Sorry for the questions! I appreciate your answers in advance.
He is free to roam until its time to go potty again (that's why knowing his potty schedule is important). Then every half hour or one hour (depend on how often he goes) ask him to go back in the potty room to go potty / poop. This will be everyday and manytimes throughout the day.
He can sleep wherever you like, but after he wakes up, straight to the potty room.
But when you are not home, I think it's best for him to stay in the potty room (make it a little larger with water and bed)
until he is "fully pottytrained" then he can roam in the house freely. Just leave the potty room open for him to go in and out on his own. (He can't do this yet for now. So make sure you close all the room doors)
If you want him to sleep in the room, you can, but he will get up in the middle of the night to go potty. Are you able to take him out & put him in the potty room at night? At this time he can't do it on his own yet.
Yes, you can also make the potty room in the garden.
@tinytailsnkisses Ok, I will have the potty schedule. I was thinking in making his potty room next to where I'm sitting (my room) but I believe the garden might be a better idea.
For the night, would it be ok to leave him in the potty room?
So much appreciated, I will update you with pics so you see how good of a trainer I will be!
If the garden is easy to access, that's great. Make sure it's not too hot for his paws, and that you can take him to the potty area everytime.
I had Skye since he was a baby and he did sleep is his potty room also when he was not potty trained. I just made sure that he has enough room to roam to play plus food and water before I got up (or if I am out), and his favorite bed was also in there. His potty room was indoor though.
i did this same thing but litter box trained them. 1 have a cairn terrier and a scottish terrier they are both litter trained. it is a blessing in disguise when you live in a appt or are gone for long periods.
my dog isnt potty trained so we do this but he starts whining all night cause we cant play with him i got college (college nearby so i walk home) my mom goes to work my dads never here my sister is at a college further away and he keeps whining at night do u know what to do?
I am not an expert on outdoor potty training, but I think same rules apply : know his potty schedule and you can ask him to go potty outside according to the schedule, then reward.
You have to be on time all the time to make sure he doesn't go on the carpet and you can not leave him inside to roam around without any supervision.
i just wanna ask. if i have a puppy and im going to put him into this playpen like yours. i understand that this is a potty room thus its for potty. the other side is for sleeping, resting, eating. so this is their area right? When i go out to work, i place him in this place and i shall not take him out right? Only until he is fully trained then would let him have free roam and he will go back to potty on his own? after i feed him and notice he wants to do it, i just place him on his pee pads???
And don't place him on the pee pee pads, but it's better if you tell him with specific word "go potty/ potty time" then lead him to the potty room. That way he knows the routine, the route, and memorize it on his own.
If you place him there or carry him there, he might not realize how he got there, then he can't learn to go on his own.
And when you are not home, make sure you make the room wider so he can roam around.
@tinytailsnkisses i have a pomeranian but whenever i put him in my room and let him potty on a liter box im just a kid and no dog bed for my dog so i would really appreciete help with that and theres the litter box but when he got to my room he peed at my bed how could i stop it
First of all, you have to stop him from going in to your room to potty.
You have to close the door at all time so he can't come in by himself or he needs to be inside a crate when he is in there.
He can't go inside your room to potty on your bed anymore (that's not good for you). He thinks your bed is a potty area and that needs to stop.
Then if you want him to sleep in your room, you have to get him a crate or a long gate, make that into an area like in the video, then he can stay in there.
@tinytailsnkisses okay ill try to do that but my rooms floor is renoleum it absorbs his potty and where is it okay to tell me how to make my puppy's own bad??
@tinytailsnkisses ok ill do that but the floor of my room is renolium and idont have a nice dog bed and he sleeps in my lower cabinet with no door can you please make a tutorial to make him a homemade dog bed??
hi, i was wondering if this method will work for dogs that are a bit older who have been living in the house for a while (as you mentioned that this is done upon moving to a new home?)
plus, i was reading the comments below abt the little yorkie and think the case is similar to my own maltese and minpin. but they do not like being caged up as they probably associate it with punishment. the maltese has never liked being on his own so its a big problem.
Hi, Yes this method works for any ages. Usually the process takes longer if the dogs are already allow to potty in different areas of the house before (since you have to do 2 training. Stop the old habit and Potty train them on the preferred area. It is possible but it takes time. You have to be very precise in timing & dont give up when they don't get it right away.
Now you must choose the area where you want them to go.
Clean the rest of the areas in your house that they used to peed on well.
If they potty on different areas in the house before, you must use some type of gate/ playpen (they can't do it without somekind of boundaries).
I know you said that they don't like to be caged up, so I suggest to make the potty room bigger. They just can't roam free when no one is home to supervise them. & since your maltese doesn't like to be alone, they can be in a potty room together when no one's home.
Make sure you know how often they go, so you can ask them to go >> continue
to go pee/ poo at the right time. I think separately is better so they won't distract each other, but once they are used to it, they can just go at the same time.
An area with a doggie door that lead to outside will also be good for them (if that's an option).
I am assuming that your dogs go to different areas in the house to potty before. The area that you don't want them to go potty on, must be blocked and cleaned thoroughly.
Once they are used to the new potty place, "slowly" you can >>
introduce them to the rest of the area. One room at the time, you must supervise and train them not to go there.
Maybe 1 room a week. Repeat with supervision daily until you can be sure that they dont and wont pee there even when you are not watching.
They will eventually understand that all the rooms in the house (except their potty room) is not bathroom. They are play and living room and they have to keep it clean.
hi i have a 14 week old shih tzu and what product should i use to clean and remove all the smells of her urine poop? and what crate/fence should i get? and how much /where to buy?
I tried Simple Solution Oxy Solution Pet Stain & Odor Remover and is pretty good.
It's safe to use around children and pets and Non-toxic.
Petsmart sells it from $10 and up (depending on size)
The gate in video is actually for small animal, but I like the many panels that it has. If you want a more sturdy fence, the small size dog's play pen is better.
It will be tall enough and long enough for a shih tzu.
i have a 1 year old yorkie, and a very small aparment, he sometimes misses the pad and would pee on the wall or door since we have the pad inside the bathroom. he also pees in other area's but mostly the kitchen, how can i stop this completly? any advice can be a great help ^^
Ok, you know this will take a lot of time to fix because he already has a habit of peing everywhere.
First you must completely sanitize all the areas that he ever peed on (make sure that he can't smell his urine on those areas, otherwise he will always comeback there to pee no matter what you do).
Then you must find an area where you want him to potty.
Gate the area and he should not be allowed to roam free when no one is home.
If you know that he already peed/ pooped, then you can let him out.
To know his schedule, you must watch him for a couple of days and write down his potty schedule.
That way you know how often he goes and what time. This will take longer to train because you have to change his habit and then train him to pee on the right area. But it is possible.
You have to be prompt and you can't miss his potty time.
The house must be gated from now on, so he can learn his boundaries.
Omg I have a BIG QUESTION!!! I hope you can help me, I have a pomeranian, he is almost 14 weeks old, but HE IS CRAZY. I know that because he is still a baby he wants to chew everything, and today I tried to use the training pads, and as soon as I lay one of those pads on the floor, he started ripping it apart. PLEASE HELP!!! If you have a tip that could help me potty train my puppy. Thanks :)
Hi, he sounds like he is a hyper type. It is a bit more challenging to train hyper pups indoor because they are easily distracted, but it's possible.
When he start to rip the paper "clap" you hands to distract him and say no! Stern voice & repeat each time he tries. Hyper pup takes longer to accept command, just be patient.
Repeat everytime he does it until he understand paper is not toy.
Do you have a gated/ secluded area that he can go to potty ? It's better for him so he can concentrate.
i'm having a hard time potty training my pom puppy. We got him in a little enclosed pen that's like 2.5x1.5 feet. He's only 2.2 pounds. We have his doggy bed in there and his water bowl (and food bowl when it's time to feed). But he seems to pee near the water bowl...and every time i let him out (after seeing he peed already), he pees again on my floor. I wish I was good at this or that I had some help. I feel like i'm doing everything wrong =(
I think the size of the pen is a bit small. I understand he is pretty small, but if the pen is too small, he will have a hard time learning the difference.
Part of this training is also to let the pup know that he should potty on the right side, not on the bed side, so when they go outside of the pen, they can apply that knowledge. if it's too small, it can get very confusing.
Dont let him out too early, he might be the type that will potty twice when too excite.
then after you let him out, praise.. then let him in again after a few min. But make sure that you do know for sure that he will potty again.
I still think that the size of the pen is the problem.
Make it 2x bigger, add one more pad. Then when he succed, make it even more bigger and add a few more pads. Once he can go potty in large pen succesfuly everyday, then I think he is ready to have an open cage/ pen policy.
By this time you may reduce the size of the pen again or remove & just pads.
@tinytailsnkisses thank u for getting bk to me. I really appreciate the feedback. Originally we had him in a bigger pen that was like 4x4. He would still pee by the water bowl and within a few mins of coming out of the pen. He tells us when he has to go poop by yelping and jumping. We take him outside, he takes about 15 mins to poop. Just now, he peed 4x inside withing like 1hr in 4 diff spots. It mite be excitement. But it's scary cuz I've never had a dog and I'm hoping that I'm not ruining him
That helps to know that he is only 8 wks old. Yes he is young, but he is ready to learn.
If he pees so much, I suspect that he might have urine tract infection. I can't tell you for sure, but does he have yellowish puss on his private?. A Vet will be able to tell if he has UTI.
Did you take him to the Vet yet ? What did the Vet say ?
Dont worry, you wont ruin him. You both are learning from each other and you are helping him. He couldn't ask for better person to take care of him :)
@tinytailsnkisses it's hard to pick him up and put him in the same spot in the house to pee cuz he has a huge nipping/biting problem. He gets excited, tries to eat my pants (or hands). I wait for him to be done and put him on the pad after he wakes up and he tries to run. If I don't let go, he tries to bite my hand. I put him bk on the pad, and the same thing happens until i get tired and let him go and he pees where he wants (which may or may not be the same place as before). Any Suggestions?
Ok, I am a little confuse. I thought you said that he has a gated area where he can go in to.
If he doesn't, you should get a gate like in my video.
Gate the area so he can't escape.
Very easy, just tell him to go potty and close the door.
Once he goes, give a tiny treat and put him in again (since he goes twice. but you really have to find out why he goes too often. As I said earlier, he might have UTI).
Then put him in the gated area every 20 min to potty.
You have to train him to understand the whole training.
Inside gate to potty, outside gate to play.
If you miss his potty times, maybe its best to write down how often he goes and what time of the day. That way you won't forget to put him in the gated area.
He will get it eventually. But any new skill takes time, dont get frustrated. He is still very young, but this is the best time to train him.
@tinytailsnkisses I've tried saying "no" in a stern voice, substituting a chew toy for my hand when he's biting, moving him away when he bites, yelping and walking away but none of it has helped stop his biting. I even tried making a really loud noise every time he started nipping at me, he stops then continues after a few seconds. I repeat w/no results. He's 8wks old so I don't expect him to be perfect. But dude, it hurts when he bites skin. He doesn't always do tht, but 80% of the time he does
Biting is very normal at this age. It will go on until up to 2 yrs old for some dogs.
They don't know that bitting is not good. That's how their mother and sibling play with them. That's how they interact to each other, show affection, and also to dicipline/ set boundaries to each other.
But just keep doing what you're doing. Repeat them all the time.
He is just a baby and needs constant reminder.
You are doing great.
He will finally get it that he is not suppose to do that.
Quick question, do I keep him in the confined area when I am at work? I would like to let him wonder around to his like. But would i know to go back in to pee and poop?
You can not let him roam free until he is fully potty trained. You can make the area larger when you're not home, that way he can roam around when he's bored.
Most of the time, he will just go to sleep when you are not home.
But, yes. He must somewhat has limited access when you are not home.
@tinytailsnkisses I wish my 2 years old male dog felt the same too LOL. I bought a litter pan, hes pad train accident here and there but lately hes been lifting his leg as marking then pee 2 in. away from the pad -__- my female dog has no problem where there's pad she'll go and in the pan she goes. I thought her scent would make my male want to use it too, nope. this morning he goes IN the pan raise leg and I still praise him for it, he walks behind me only to pee OFF the pad! gah!
@tinytailsnkisses mines is a long leg pomeranian so i figured it should be easy. and i think i put pad all around the pan in and out, either he pees off the pad or over the pad. -__- hes getting the hang of it now but has a problem FINISHING ALL his pee in the pan LOL.
Hi, I am sorry I missed your question 3 weeks a go. I just replied to it.
it is a bit complicated if the puppy loves to chew paper. I know some pup likes paper, some likes shoes more than others. Kissy is the type that chews on everything (she is the dog in the video). So with her I kept her in the potty training crate for a short time.
She will go in, then I tell her to go potty, then she will be out.
Once in a while she chew the corner and I use stern voice " NO! Kissy" and she understands.
But basically, you just have to re-trained your dog to Not chew on paper (obviously we know that she/ he likes to shred/ play with paper just like Kissy does).
It's a habit and habit is a bit hard to break, but if you are consistent it can be done.
She/ he must not allow to shred any type of paper in the jouse. Everytime your dog found paper, you must say "No or Leave it " then remove. Whatever word you use, must be the same everytime, so your dog will know what are you trying to say. Good Luck.
when i get my puppy i plan on doing this. but question, will i always have to use those puppy mats? i would like for my dog to be an inside dog but i dont want those mats to be in my house after its been trained. is there a way to teach them to want to go outside as well?
If eventually you want your dog to go outside to potty, it is best to teach them to do that from the beginning.
If he/ she learned to go potty indoor then later on they are not allow to, that will be confusing.
You can kind of use this method outside, just switch the potty area.
Doggie door works wonder for outdoor potty training.
So, in short: I would not recommend you to train your dog to go potty indoor if you have want to reverse the training later on (it is harder to re-teach them)
Yes, this technique is almost fool proof. I trained so many puppies with this & this is the easiest way for a puppy to learn without making so many mistakes in the house.
I like to keep my house urine-free and the gate helps potty training a lot. Imagine if we were left in huge space and don't know where's the bathroom. Of course we'll pee anywhere.
Do not forget, the owner plays a very very important role because puppy can't open & close gate on it's own.
I am so sorry that I missed this question. Sometimes Youtube failed to email me.
You need to train you dog to go on a pee pee pad. They don't naturally go there.
To them it's just a newspaper and could be for anything.
Most puppies (when they were born) are trained to go on some type of form ( paper, pads, concrete, or towel/ cloth) from the original owner. Then by the time we got them, some can naturally go on paper and some won't. You have to train them. Some can have a hard time learning.
Well, it is not normal for dogs to eat their own feces, but there are some dogs that do that.
The cause of this habit is unknown, but it's a lot to do with when they're young.
Some puppies copy their mom (the mother dog usually clean the pup's feces by eating them) or sometimes their cage are small and not clean often enough, that can cause them to play with the feces & eat them when they're bored. It's hard to say.
@tinytailsnkisses : thanks so much! i've researched on dog breeds and found it as well ( even though my puppy is mixed, so i'm still not sure about that). so then if i put baking soda then he won't eat his own feces?
Baking Soda is one of the cheapest method. There's also Forbid (from the petstore). You put them on th feces so it will taste bad. But everytime he gets close it's best for you to teach him the "leave it' command. Eventhough the purpose is to stop the dog from liking the taste, but if you can stop it from eating it is even better.
It's very important for the owner to be persistent. This habit is very hard to break. Most owners give up after a while. Don't give up, he needs your help to change.
where do you get those kind of fences? i'd like to have a bigger area for my puppies since my cousin told me that if the pad is too close to their bed, they won't want to go on the pad.
so put the dog in an out of the pad so say like after they r finished eating put them in it but will they learn to pee with out being trapped an forced to pee
You must teach the dog to go on the potty pads. Using gate/ gated area is easiest for them and knowing their potty schedule is easier for us (that way we know when to ask them).
Dogs remember routine, so constant repetitions and reminders are key.
You can't let the puppy roam free when no ones home.
He must have some type of potty schedule and crate of somekind.
First day home is very important.
My method is using gate (and make a crate with it), but this is indoor potty training. If you want him to go outside, please look up outdoor potty training methods.
Congratulation on your new puppy !! I am so happy for you.
@JR381994 There are 2 choices, either you let him/ her stay inside this crate at night (make sure you make it larger if you will leave your puppy inside, so he can walk around. Food, water, bed, toy on the opposite side of pee pee pads. Or leave the door open and crate open at night so your puppy can go in and out by him/ herself to potty.
If you are going outside to walk, just sit him/ her down and ask them to stay (before you take them out), then you lead the walk. This way they will focus on your command from the very beginning.
If you are asking them to potty. Know their daily schedule, then ask them to go outside to potty on those time. To have them wait, just say wait, then let them go out.
If you want them to ring the bell then hang the bell by the door and ring them everytimebefore they go, they will copy you after.
-____- i have those pee pads and ive tried training my puppy to use them but all she does is rip them up (she thinks its a toy)and i think shes even been eating pieces O_o?!?!
HI! This is a great video! Thanks. I am getting a puppy (coming home on Dec 20th... she will be 12 weeks by then). She is a tiny puppy (Morkie) and will always use a pee pad. Do I train her the exact same way? Is there anything that is different in training these very small breeds? What do you think about "small confinement" training.. when you have them in a little crate and let them out every hour to pee? Thanks for your help!!
I myself don't prefer small crate. I like them to be able to walk around.
Sometimes small crate is harder for some breeds, because they feel trap in it.
This method is like a crate with bathroom in it (that way if you have to be out of the house for 8 hrs, you won't have to worry).
But gate is very important to have (or if you have some type of area that can be blocked. No door is best, otherwise they will bark/ whine when they can't see whats going on)
Make the room a little larger with some toys, put her toys and bed on the opposite side of the pee pee pads (please include water as well.if this will be a crate for 8 hrs, includes food)
Otherwise make sure you know what time does she go to potty. Only ask her to go in when is potty time.
Once she is in, ignore.
Once she peed/ pooped, give her treat.
She will soon understand why she is in there and that is her bathroom.
I have two dogs a 3 month toy poodle and a 2yr old yorkie that I am trying to potty train but I am having trouble because they prefer to go around house instead of the pads HELP ME
carly2078 1 month ago

Thank you :)
sugasweetcookie 1 month ago

How do I get him used to being in the playpen?
karmaluv 1 month ago
Ok, he thinks he is being locked in and he doesn't know why.
Does he go potty when you put him in the playpen or he just whimpers ?
Some dogs are able to do it without the playpen. If he is more comfortable inside his crate, then you can just do the crate training.
Lock him in his crate at night, then ask him to go potty when he wakes up. Ask him through out the day to go potty and only leave him in the playpen when you are not home (or if he prefers inside the crate is also fine)

Thank you so much for the help, potty training as been the hardest part lol. I just have a couple of questions
1. Do you treat the dog for pee separately from pooping lol, or is it only when they do both that i should give her the treat?
2. Can I leave her there when I'm going out?
schwarzkopf123 2 months ago
Hi, Potty training is hard work. I understand :)
2. Yes, but make the space bigger.

Any suggestions?
mommiof03 2 months ago
Hi, it is usually very difficult for any puppy or a new dog to understand their potty area. It's best to make heir area smaller by using gates/ playpen so they don't get lost in the new house and make accidents.
If you are planning to potty train him outside, just make sure you don't let him roam around the whole house before he goes to potty. Know his potty schedule is always best, like how many times a day and how often. If he is going inside, make sure you have a gated area for it.
tinytailsnkisses 1 month ago
That way you can close he door while you wait for him to go. Pick a low to no traffic area and have treats near by to reward him. You must ask him to go potty at the first few months, so you must know his schedule, for example: he has to go when he wakes up from nap/ sleep, after meal, etc.
Good luck and Congratulation !
Always on time on asking him to go potty.

Hi! This is very nice and I will train with my dog with this method. Question tho, what if the dog doesn't pee and just ends up sleeping though the night? Do I just let him be? And if he potty during the night but we are already sleeping, so we can't let him out, so just leave him there until the next morning and until we catch him peeing again, reward him, then let him out?
ditch13 3 months ago
Hi,
First you must know his schedule, that way you know when he should go to pee (if he goes to pee before he sleeps than he should go when you ask him to potty).

I put more comment on your other question as well. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
Hugs to your pup.
tinytailsnkisses 3 months ago
Also I plan to leave him home when working. So if he sleeps thru the night, in the morning, even if he pee on the pad but I'll be leaving so that's kind of just leaving him inside for a very long time. Will that be a problem? Thanks a lot!
ditch13 3 months ago
Let him out for 5 min and ask him to "go potty" inside again, close the gate . This time should be quick, then reward him once he potty, let him out, and make sure he can be out and play before you go to work (because he will be in there again).
Also make sure if you want to leave him in there, make the area really big so he can play, even a whole room is fine if you have tile floor.
He will sleep most of the time while you are not home. Maybe pee and poop once.
When you come back, cont >>
tinytailsnkisses 3 months ago

BarrelsPolesandJack 5 months ago
Hi
She is so used to being outside on the street where she can just go wherever she wants, so training her will be a bit tricky.
First you can not let her roam everywhere. You must close all doors to the rooms and bathrooms for now until she is potty trained.
Write down her potty schedule, Gate the area where you want her to go in the house, and ask her to go in the gated area to potty OR take her outside to potty according to schedule.
Don't miss her potty time, She will learn eventually.

hello, how can I train my chow chow to pee on the potty??? he pees many times... and he's just 1 month...
asiane321 5 months ago
Hi.
Chow will be huge, it's best to teach him to potty outside.
Indoor potty training is not the best for big dogs. It will be too much to clean for you when he is older.

Hi,
The gate I use is a small animal playpen (brand : All Living Things, Larger size) from Petsmart, it cost $41 - $42
There are also puppy playpen that cost a bit more but more sturdy. Cost about $60 - $65 (also at Petsmart).
I think Petco has it but they charge more.
Good luck to you.

kalee1015 7 months ago
Hi,
It's best for bigger dogs to go potty outside. Easier to clean and you don't want them to eliminate inside the house anyway.
I am not an expert on outdoor potty training, but there many good outdoor potty training videos that's really helpful here.
Doggie door will help make potty training easier.
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
Great video thanks for the advice! I have a 6 month old dachshund and we also have a gated area where we put her toilet + bed inside. My husband insists to place the toilet near the gate opening because that's where she spend most of her time sitting/waiting to get out. Is there any reason why the toilet has to be put far away from the gate?
buramiko 7 months ago
@buramiko
Also how long does it take to train a dog on average? we've spent 3 weeks now and still no progress, if we don't put her back to pee every 30 mins (and close the gate and let her out again ONLY after she's finished), she will not go back in by herself. Not to mention she sometimes does that on the floor not on the toilet.
buramiko 7 months ago
Usually 3 days to 1 weeks for puppies & older dogs do take longer.
For a 6 months old, usually they go potty every 1 hr to 2 hrs. I think 30 min is too fast (she might be wondering why is she there way too often & refuse to go in there). Do you have her potty schedule? Does she always go every 30 min? If not then maybe you should try to wait longer before you ask her to go back in again. And make sure you don't carry her to the potty room, she has to walk there on her own so she knows the route.
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
Hi, Yes, the toilet has to be on the far side of the gate opening because you want to prevent them from stepping on their own urine/ fecal. They will wait for you by the opening, so you don't want them to lay on the pee pee pads (especially the soiled ones).
I answered the other question as well. Please let me know how it goes.
Try to wait a little longer before you ask her to go back in there (follow her potty schedule) and flip the potty side (put in away from the gate opening)
Good Luck.
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
Hi there, great video! I'm going to attempt at this method when I get my Yorkshire Terrier puppy. I just have one question - when you have locked the pup up in the cage ect. and your waiting for it to go potty, what if it doesn't potty on the pad, but it does it on the floor? I don't have my dog yet, but just wondering on how to fix this problem just incase this does happen. Thanks!
magnalitymovies 7 months ago
Hi, usually if the layout of the potty room is correct, it will not happen. Either you move the pads further from the bed (if he/ she is a bigger pup) or closer if he/ she is a tiny size pup.
And somedogs can't aim too well, so you can add extra pads in the potty room.
But experience with the lay out. It should work fine.
Let me know if you have other questions.
^..^

Amelia102938 7 months ago
If your dog is a small size, the same playpen that I use in the video is usually ok .
But it is best to use a playpen for dog. It cost a bit more, but it's more sturdy and harder to push around.
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
@tinytailsnkisses oh ok, thanks!
Amelia102938 7 months ago
Will you transition to outside training from indoor paper training?
Or will cute corgi always use the bathroom in the house?
Also, what do you do about smell?
wildjohn999 7 months ago
Hi,
If you are going to potty train your dog outside eventually, it is best to just "not" train them to go indoor / in house potty training (because those techniques contradict one another).
It can get confusing. It is best to let them know that they can't go inside at all.
To remove urine smell on floor (very easy, use any solution that is safe for pets). On carpet is a bit harder to do, but there are so many new product now that you can safely apply to your carpet.
Best Wishes :)

is it ok to use this method for adult dogs or just puppies?
rayrhinohair 7 months ago
I actually have trained both.
But you need to be more precise with adult dogs and make sure you know their potty habit/ times.
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
Well, I'm getting a Pug this upcoming Saturday, it's 2 months old. I'm gonna try your technique since I believe it's looks fun to do it. I see you are using potty pads...what about using regular newspaper? Or even more, what about those Potty patch mats? They look nice so the dog can pee on it, but they don't say if it's good for the dogs to poo on it. Cheers!
sinelior 7 months ago
Hi and Congratulation on your puppy !!!!
Good Luck to you :)
Let me know if you have ?s
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
@tinytailsnkisses Hey thanks for the answer!
Ok, I will do the schedule part.
I appreciate your answers in advance.
sinelior 7 months ago
He is free to roam until its time to go potty again (that's why knowing his potty schedule is important). Then every half hour or one hour (depend on how often he goes) ask him to go back in the potty room to go potty / poop. This will be everyday and manytimes throughout the day.
He can sleep wherever you like, but after he wakes up, straight to the potty room.
But when you are not home, I think it's best for him to stay in the potty room (make it a little larger with water and bed)
continue >
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
until he is "fully pottytrained" then he can roam in the house freely.
You are welcome.
tinytailsnkisses 7 months ago
@tinytailsnkisses Ok, I will have the potty schedule. I was thinking in making his potty room next to where I'm sitting (my room) but I believe the garden might be a better idea.
For the night, would it be ok to leave him in the potty room?
So much appreciated, I will update you with pics so you see how good of a trainer I will be!
sinelior 7 months ago
Hi,
If the garden is easy to access, that's great.
I am sure you will do fine :)
Congratulation again :)

Mooccii 8 months ago
Hi,
I am not an expert on outdoor potty training, but I think same rules apply : know his potty schedule and you can ask him to go potty outside according to the schedule, then reward.
You have to be on time all the time to make sure he doesn't go on the carpet and you can not leave him inside to roam around without any supervision.
:)
tinytailsnkisses 8 months ago
i just wanna ask. if i have a puppy and im going to put him into this playpen like yours. i understand that this is a potty room thus its for potty. the other side is for sleeping, resting, eating. so this is their area right? When i go out to work, i place him in this place and i shall not take him out right? Only until he is fully trained then would let him have free roam and he will go back to potty on his own? after i feed him and notice he wants to do it, i just place him on his pee pads???
slaycrest 8 months ago
Yes.
Best Wishes to you :)

@tinytailsnkisses i have a pomeranian but whenever i put him in my room and let him potty on a liter box im just a kid and no dog bed for my dog so i would really appreciete help with that and theres the litter box but when he got to my room he peed at my bed how could i stop it
John831K 8 months ago
Hi,
First of all, you have to stop him from going in to your room to potty.
You have to close the door at all time so he can't come in by himself or he needs to be inside a crate when he is in there.
He can't go inside your room to potty on your bed anymore (that's not good for you). He thinks your bed is a potty area and that needs to stop.
Then if you want him to sleep in your room, you have to get him a crate or a long gate, make that into an area like in the video, then he can stay in there.

hi, i was wondering if this method will work for dogs that are a bit older who have been living in the house for a while (as you mentioned that this is done upon moving to a new home?)
plus, i was reading the comments below abt the little yorkie and think the case is similar to my own maltese and minpin. but they do not like being caged up as they probably associate it with punishment. the maltese has never liked being on his own so its a big problem.
thanks for the video, very informative. :)
xianated 8 months ago
Hi, Yes this method works for any ages. Usually the process takes longer if the dogs are already allow to potty in different areas of the house before (since you have to do 2 training. Stop the old habit and Potty train them on the preferred area. It is possible but it takes time. You have to be very precise in timing & dont give up when they don't get it right away.
Now you must choose the area where you want them to go.
Clean the rest of the areas in your house that they used to peed on well.
tinytailsnkisses 8 months ago
If they potty on different areas in the house before, you must use some type of gate/ playpen (they can't do it without somekind of boundaries).
I know you said that they don't like to be caged up, so I suggest to make the potty room bigger. They just can't roam free when no one is home to supervise them. & since your maltese doesn't like to be alone, they can be in a potty room together when no one's home.
Make sure you know how often they go, so you can ask them to go >> continue
tinytailsnkisses 8 months ago
to go pee/ poo at the right time.
Once they are used to the new potty place, "slowly" you can >>
tinytailsnkisses 8 months ago
introduce them to the rest of the area.
When you unsure, block that room.
It takes time, but can be done.
Good luck.

Hi,
I tried Simple Solution Oxy Solution Pet Stain & Odor Remover and is pretty good.
Petsmart sells it for $60.
Petco also sell them but more expensive.

TheSillyPockyStick 9 months ago
Ok, you know this will take a lot of time to fix because he already has a habit of peing everywhere.
First you must completely sanitize all the areas that he ever peed on (make sure that he can't smell his urine on those areas, otherwise he will always comeback there to pee no matter what you do).
Then you must find an area where you want him to potty.
Gate the area and he should not be allowed to roam free when no one is home.
He has to stay in the gated area.
When you are home, if you know >>
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
If you know that he already peed/ pooped, then you can let him out.
To know his schedule, you must watch him for a couple of days and write down his potty schedule.
That way you know how often he goes and what time. This will take longer to train because you have to change his habit and then train him to pee on the right area. But it is possible.
You have to be prompt and you can't miss his potty time.
The house must be gated from now on, so he can learn his boundaries.
Best Wishes to you.

This product is actually pretty good.
It has a corgi picture in the front, blue bottle.

what do you do after your dog learns to potty in the training pad??
vampireBella112 9 months ago
Then he is potty trained.
Once he can go in and out by himself, you can remove the gate.
But you must be sure that he is 100% potty trained before you do that.
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
Omg I have a BIG QUESTION!!! I hope you can help me, I have a pomeranian, he is almost 14 weeks old, but HE IS CRAZY. I know that because he is still a baby he wants to chew everything, and today I tried to use the training pads, and as soon as I lay one of those pads on the floor, he started ripping it apart. PLEASE HELP!!! If you have a tip that could help me potty train my puppy. Thanks :)
ialfi909 9 months ago
Hi, he sounds like he is a hyper type. It is a bit more challenging to train hyper pups indoor because they are easily distracted, but it's possible.
When he start to rip the paper "clap" you hands to distract him and say no! Stern voice & repeat each time he tries. Hyper pup takes longer to accept command, just be patient.
Repeat everytime he does it until he understand paper is not toy.
Do you have a gated/ secluded area that he can go to potty ? It's better for him so he can concentrate.
>>
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
Pick his toy wisely. Do not let him shred paper/ junk mail at play time (so he won't do it on potty pads).
And when you put him in the potty area, you have to have a calm energy as well. Use low and non hyper voice.
Don't rush, cause that will cause him to be more anxious.
As calm as possible and close the gate.
If he can go outdoor is best. Doggie door is wonderful.
Let me know how it goes :)

how to teach him if i want to potty trained it in bathroom??
bakanishi1 9 months ago
Hi,
I would not recommend to train him to go in the bathroom area.
Because when you or other family member/s want to use the bathroom, it will be a problem.
It will be difficult to move the potty area to somewhere else then after he is potty trained.
It's best to find a corner area that you don't use at all, low traffic unused room, or outside.
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
i'm having a hard time potty training my pom puppy. I feel like i'm doing everything wrong =(
chinychock 9 months ago
I think the size of the pen is a bit small. I understand he is pretty small, but if the pen is too small, he will have a hard time learning the difference.
Part of this training is also to let the pup know that he should potty on the right side, not on the bed side, so when they go outside of the pen, they can apply that knowledge. if it's too small, it can get very confusing.
Dont let him out too early, he might be the type that will potty twice when too excite.
If he always potty again > cont
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
then after you let him out, praise.. then let him in again after a few min.
By this time you may reduce the size of the pen again or remove & just pads.
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
Don't worry, potty training is hard for almost everyone.
As confusing it is for us, it's more confusing for the dog.
Just don't give up. Try to modify different things.
Also try to not look too excited when he peed, that can cause him to hold his urine.
When you are home, make sure you remember to ask him to go potty. Dont let him potty all over the place, because that will make him confused.
Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

But it's scary cuz I've never had a dog and I'm hoping that I'm not ruining him
chinychock 9 months ago
Hi,
That helps to know that he is only 8 wks old.
He couldn't ask for better person to take care of him :)
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
@tinytailsnkisses it's hard to pick him up and put him in the same spot in the house to pee cuz he has a huge nipping/biting problem. He gets excited, tries to eat my pants (or hands). I wait for him to be done and put him on the pad after he wakes up and he tries to run. If I don't let go, he tries to bite my hand. I put him bk on the pad, and the same thing happens until i get tired and let him go and he pees where he wants (which may or may not be the same place as before). Any Suggestions?
chinychock 9 months ago
Ok, I am a little confuse. I thought you said that he has a gated area where he can go in to.
If he doesn't, you should get a gate like in my video.
Gate the area so he can't escape.
Very easy, just tell him to go potty and close the door.
Once he goes, give a tiny treat and put him in again (since he goes twice. but you really have to find out why he goes too often. As I said earlier, he might have UTI).
Then put him in the gated area every 20 min to potty.
This process is not an overnight one.
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
You have to train him to understand the whole training.
Inside gate to potty, outside gate to play.
If you miss his potty times, maybe its best to write down how often he goes and what time of the day. That way you won't forget to put him in the gated area.
He will get it eventually. But any new skill takes time, dont get frustrated. He is still very young, but this is the best time to train him.
tinytailsnkisses 9 months ago
@tinytailsnkisses I've tried saying "no" in a stern voice, substituting a chew toy for my hand when he's biting, moving him away when he bites, yelping and walking away but none of it has helped stop his biting. I even tried making a really loud noise every time he started nipping at me, he stops then continues after a few seconds. I repeat w/no results. He's 8wks old so I don't expect him to be perfect. But dude, it hurts when he bites skin. He doesn't always do tht, but 80% of the time he does
chinychock 9 months ago
Biting is very normal at this age. It will go on until up to 2 yrs old for some dogs.
They don't know that bitting is not good. That's how their mother and sibling play with them. That's how they interact to each other, show affection, and also to dicipline/ set boundaries to each other.
But just keep doing what you're doing. Repeat them all the time.
He is just a baby and needs constant reminder.
You are doing great.
He will finally get it that he is not suppose to do that.
He must be a cutie.

Hi,
Quick question, do I keep him in the confined area when I am at work? I would like to let him wonder around to his like. But would i know to go back in to pee and poop?
spiritawaywithme 10 months ago
You can not let him roam free until he is fully potty trained. You can make the area larger when you're not home, that way he can roam around when he's bored.
Most of the time, he will just go to sleep when you are not home.
But, yes. He must somewhat has limited access when you are not home.

@tinytailsnkisses I wish my 2 years old male dog felt the same too LOL. I bought a litter pan, hes pad train accident here and there but lately hes been lifting his leg as marking then pee 2 in. away from the pad -__- my female dog has no problem where there's pad she'll go and in the pan she goes. I thought her scent would make my male want to use it too, nope. this morning he goes IN the pan raise leg and I still praise him for it, he walks behind me only to pee OFF the pad! gah!
asenboyz 10 months ago
You know... it's pretty funny, but some dogs just don't aim well, especially if they lift their legs.
They just can't aim on the right spot no matter how hard they try. So as along as it's close enough....unfortunately they think it's alright.
Corgis are one of them because they have long body so they can't aim accurately.
These type of dog needs a bigger potty area/ just add more pads so he won't miss.
LOL.. your dogs sounds very cute though.
Best Wishes.

@tinytailsnkisses mines is a long leg pomeranian so i figured it should be easy. and i think i put pad all around the pan in and out, either he pees off the pad or over the pad. -__- hes getting the hang of it now but has a problem FINISHING ALL his pee in the pan LOL.
Thank you though :)

how do u make your dog stop chewing on it
xbox360ishcool 10 months ago
Hi, I am sorry I missed your question 3 weeks a go. I just replied to it.
it is a bit complicated if the puppy loves to chew paper. I know some pup likes paper, some likes shoes more than others. Kissy is the type that chews on everything (she is the dog in the video). So with her I kept her in the potty training crate for a short time.
She will go in, then I tell her to go potty, then she will be out.
Once in a while she chew the corner and I use stern voice " NO! Kissy" and she understands.
tinytailsnkisses 10 months ago
But basically, you just have to re-trained your dog to Not chew on paper (obviously we know that she/ he likes to shred/ play with paper just like Kissy does).
It's a habit and habit is a bit hard to break, but if you are consistent it can be done.
She/ he must not allow to shred any type of paper in the jouse. Everytime your dog found paper, you must say "No or Leave it " then remove. Whatever word you use, must be the same everytime, so your dog will know what are you trying to say. Good Luck.
tinytailsnkisses 10 months ago
when i get my puppy i plan on doing this. but question, will i always have to use those puppy mats? i would like for my dog to be an inside dog but i dont want those mats to be in my house after its been trained. is there a way to teach them to want to go outside as well?
tAlYaH84 10 months ago
Hello,
If eventually you want your dog to go outside to potty, it is best to teach them to do that from the beginning.
If he/ she learned to go potty indoor then later on they are not allow to, that will be confusing.
You can kind of use this method outside, just switch the potty area.
Doggie door works wonder for outdoor potty training.
So, in short: I would not recommend you to train your dog to go potty indoor if you have want to reverse the training later on (it is harder to re-teach them)

iLoveBLTandCupcakes 11 months ago
That's wonderful.
I'm so happy for you.

Hi,
I am so sorry that I missed this question.
Some can have a hard time learning.
tinytailsnkisses 10 months ago
what kind of dog is this?my puppy looks really similar with yours. maybe that what he would look like when he grows up.
btw, about the yucky habit like eating his own feces..i heard that a dog needs it to clean its stomach so it's completely normal
rspanjaitan 1 year ago
Kissy is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
You can put baking soda the feces to stop it.
tinytailsnkisses 11 months ago
@tinytailsnkisses : thanks so much! i've researched on dog breeds and found it as well ( even though my puppy is mixed, so i'm still not sure about that). so then if i put baking soda then he won't eat his own feces?
rspanjaitan 11 months ago
Baking Soda is one of the cheapest method. There's also Forbid (from the petstore). You put them on th feces so it will taste bad. But everytime he gets close it's best for you to teach him the "leave it' command. Eventhough the purpose is to stop the dog from liking the taste, but if you can stop it from eating it is even better.
It's very important for the owner to be persistent. This habit is very hard to break. Most owners give up after a while. Don't give up, he needs your help to change.
tinytailsnkisses 11 months ago
I would pick up most of the feces and leave one for training purposes. That way you keep the area clean.
Do not get another dog until you solve this problem (even then it may come back)
Do this exercize : when he poops, tell him to "leave it" or "stay away" (use 1 same command everytime).
Have him sit down and give him a treat (have treats ready)
You must do it everytime he poops. When he doesn't eat it, reward him with treat.
That way he will call you whenever he poops to get a treat instead.
tinytailsnkisses 11 months ago
where do you get those kind of fences? i'd like to have a bigger area for my puppies since my cousin told me that if the pad is too close to their bed, they won't want to go on the pad.
andreayiu 1 year ago
In this video I use :
Brand : All Living Things (small animal playpen, size : Large) $41 - $42 in Petsmart
This has the same height and length as Puppy Playpen size: Small $60, but this one is lighter and has more panels.
If you have a strong puppy, I would recommend to get the puppy playpen instead, because they are more sturdy.
tinytailsnkisses 1 year ago
so put the dog in an out of the pad so say like after they r finished eating put them in it but will they learn to pee with out being trapped an forced to pee
chaoexperemneter 1 year ago
Yes, kind of... they key is to be consistent and knowing the schedule.
You are just making a ritual for your dog to go potty/ poop at the right spot until they can do it on their own.
They eventually will go on their own without needing your assistance.
I made this method to avoid new puppies/ dogs from peeing all over the house when they first arrive.
Its harder to train pups/ dogs when the house has pee pee accidents all over the place.
tinytailsnkisses 1 year ago
how do you make your dog use the pee pee pads
xbox360ishcool 1 year ago
You must teach the dog to go on the potty pads. Using gate/ gated area is easiest for them and knowing their potty schedule is easier for us (that way we know when to ask them).
Dogs remember routine, so constant repetitions and reminders are key.
:0)

peacejulie 1 year ago
@peacejulie Hi.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

its kinda hard because my pup goes at 1-3 in the mornin
JR381994 1 year ago
@JR381994 There are 2 choices, either you let him/ her stay inside this crate at night (make sure you make it larger if you will leave your puppy inside, so he can walk around. Food, water, bed, toy on the opposite side of pee pee pads. Or leave the door open and crate open at night so your puppy can go in and out by him/ herself to potty.

It is pretty comfortable to sit on :)
tinytailsnkisses 1 year ago
How would you teach your puppy to wait at the door to go outside?
Ps: Thanks for the vid!
vanityblue1934 1 year ago
Hi,
If you are going outside to walk, just sit him/ her down and ask them to stay (before you take them out), then you lead the walk.

Yup,
Skye does that once in a while when he is upset about me going out.

Also, some kind of brand of potty pads (that are sold on line and are super thick) caused puppy to rip em apart.
I like these semi-thin ones from Walgreens/ Target. They don't seem to ruin those ones.

JillK90 1 year ago
Hello.
No door is best, otherwise they will bark/ whine when they can't see whats going on)
Congrats on the new puppy :)
tinytailsnkisses 1 year ago
when i put her in her room she starts crying and barking so loud and shes only 3 weeks old what can i do!
mieroku 1 year ago
Hi, Yes, she is very young.
Make sure you put the opening on the bed side.
tinytailsnkisses 1 year ago
Best video on the subject i've seen here! Nice work.
Buti have a question If he poops outside the potty area, how can I show him he made a mistake and how to correct it?
aedeling 1 year ago
Thanks.
Since dogs have short term memory, once they pooped .. sometimes they don't remember that they did that, so scolding them might not help.
To help them potty trained faster..
