  • Oh, my, that is easy.

  • Omg I cant Believe how easy it is. I just recently found out I have to replace my hard drive. I'm so glad I found this video and can see how easy it is. Thanks!

  • How can I get a static-free surface? cover the table if a piece of fabric? or use a whole mat? Thank you

  • @DAYSINTHEBIGAPPLE See our blog article Discharging Static Electricity (link in video description)

  • @OWCmacsales I understand that keeping the machine plugged and turned off is how you discharge electricity from your body consistently through the grounding outlet. When using a strap, do you keep the power plugged in or not?

    Thank you very much!

  • Cheers

  • Thanks for this vid! Did just upgrade my macbook from 160 to 500GB! Feels great!

  • How do i discharge static electricity?

  • @peagle08 Check out our blog article on discharging static electricity for Safe Computer Upgrading. The link can now be found in the description section of the video.

  • nice video

  • Doesnt tell you how to transfer to the new drive. What happens if you install a blank drive. Can you just pop in your system disks then and have a fresh start?

  • @rinnin at 0:54 of the video we post the link to how to transfer the data from your old drive to your new from our website. Of course, to have a completely fresh start, you could always install the OS from disk as well.

  • yes, thats what you do. then if you care about your data get a 2.5" external harddrive enclosure, put your old harddrive in it, and copy all of your data over to your new harddrive once inside mac OS

  • Can you install 12.5mm profile SATA drives in the Unibody 13" or 15" MacBook Pros? Supposedly, the 17" model can support 12.5mm drives for sure.

also would be interested in if I can put a SSD drive in these models later with no issues when the prices come down on them.

  • The answer is yes to both questions. The "unibody" models can accommodate a 12.5mm thick drive (as well as the non-"unibody 17" MacBook Pro model). SSD drives are quite compatible with the MacBook line as well and offer more durability than traditional, platter-based hard drives.

  • interesting. So I can put on eof the 1TB or 2TB 2.5" SATA laptop in the unit when they come down in price.

I see that the new MacBook Pros (13" and 15") all have removable bottom with screws like the 17".

Previously there was the latch as described in the video here for the 13" and 15" rather than one piece cover with screws at the top and bottom.

Is this why the newer models can take 12mm drives rather than 9.5mm drives?

i'm looking at a new MacBook rather than previous models.

  • @OWCmacsales

what are your specs? mine is>

    >2.8Gz

    >4GB RAM

    >128 SSD

    >Glossy

    >with anti-glare film

    >17" macbook pro

  • @Applestuff100 OWC's in-house testing lab has several MBPs. Every screen size (glossy and non), release and processor speed is represented.

  • @OWCmacsales

where do you but SSD I would like to but a 128 SSD for Bros macbook where do you buy them and how do you get you stuff on them?? please get back to me

  • @Applestuff100 We do carry them. In the upper right corner, click 'more info' and you'll find a link to our selection of 2.5" SATA hard drives, including SSD offerings.

  • @OWCmacsales

he has the 2009 model where the battery does not come out. what SSD do I get for my bro.

  • The 2009 MacBook Pro can take any capacity of 2.5" SSD drive.

  • if i swap a hard drive in my unibody macbook (i need to place my hard drive in another unibody macbook for backup (my laptop broke when i gave it a beer shower :s )) will this void my warranty?

  • I took a quick look of the MacBook manual, if the replacement drive already has the mounting screws you don't need to unscrew them from the original drive.

  • Can I easily replace hard drive with SSD?

  • yeah there is no difference between a standard magnetic 2.5 inch laptop drive and a ssd of the same size so it will fir ands

  • yes

  • Hi,

    I have damaged phillips screw.

How can I remove that screw?

Where can I buy new screw and what is specification of this screw?

    Many thanks

  • Those screws are usually made for certain applications (i.e. Holding a MacBook's hard drive in place).

Giving Apple a call might be your best bet.

  • if you have only ruined the head there might be a tool that can help you, if not you might (at your own risk of course) drill the screw out and use the laptop with out the screw, this will void your warranty.

  • Great video :D

  • great video!! thanks guys. you have always been top quality with your information.
