I believe it is also available on DVD. As for the negative comments on this film, well they are probably the same people who shit on The Thin Red Line. This is a great movie. Just watched this movie and being a historian I was appalled. To say Spike Lee took liberties with the historical setting , value and way the U.S. military worked in World War 2 would be a huge understatment. This man set fire to history. Final grade = F. I know many will say that its hollywood and they dont care about accuracy, while I agree with that, they should atleast try to be remotely accurate.

Started watching it, gave up shortly after the four black soldiers with the little boy crossed the bridge and settled in the windmill I think it was. The beginning of the movie was good, but as soon as it went back in time to the war it turned into a typical hollywood piece of crap. best part of movie was the nude scene. Rated the movie a 2/5 . Considering it apparently isn't true. There is one thing that really made me laugh, on the back of the dvd case in quotes it says "The Best War movie since Saving Private Ryan!" ...... Yeah... Right.
This movie has already proven to be a lie. The Italian survivors of this battle have stated numerous times that the actual happenings DID NOT occur the way Spike Lee wants us to believe.
I'm about fifty minutes into this movie, and I'm laughing about how stupid it is. It seems Spike Lee set himself up well for some interesting points, but missed the mark every time in this film. I see people commenting that we should read the book, so maybe I will.
I just had to come on here and say how disappointed I was with this film. I didn't even get passed the first 30 minutes. The book was great! But the film...no. The casting was terrible! Michael Ealy as Bishop?! What! Valentina as Renata?! No no no. I love the story but the screenplay for such a captivating book did not fare well to me. I hope someone tries again. I value the story so dearly in my heart but I don't feel the movie captured the book at all.

To say Spike Lee took liberties with the historical setting , value and way the U.S. military worked in World War 2 would be a huge understatment. This man set fire to history. Final grade = F. I know many will say that its hollywood and they dont care about accuracy, while I agree with that, they should atleast try to be remotely accurate.

Actually their were many black soldiers who were instrumental in the winning of WW2.
Search the Tuskegee Airmen.They were some of the best pilots in the war.The reason you dont hear about is because of people who are racist that dont want these facts known.
Its the way you keep down a race of people. "Social engineering" which has always been a tool of government.
Anyway they took down 111 planes in aerial combat, 140 in Aerodomes and others i cant remember now.

I'm sorry but I couldn't sit through the whole movie. Started watching it, gave up shortly after the four black soldiers with the little boy crossed the bridge and settled in the windmill I think it was. The beginning of the movie was good, but as soon as it went back in time to the war it turned into a typical hollywood piece of crap. What's with all the stars with small parts and a bunch of unknowns playing stereotypes with Narnia and comic relief dialog that makes Jar Jar Binks look good?

I just had to come on here and say how disappointed I was with this film. I didn't even get passed the first 30 minutes. The book was great! But the film...no. The casting was terrible! Michael Ealy as Bishop?! What! Valentina as Renata?! No no no. I love the story but the screenplay for such a captivating book did not fare well to me. I hope someone tries again. I value the story so dearly in my heart but I don't feel the movie captured the book at all.
