When we dressed like this in 1982 people pelted us with rocks and garbage just for stepping foot outside out homes, tried to run us over with their cars, and set off a pipe bomb in our front hall. The whole point of of the punk subculture was for society's outcasts to band together and make a stand. We showed solidarity with one another by dressing similarly; not the same but in the same ballpark, so society knew we were not afraid.
