Let's not forget that it not only made the Playstation successful, it put Sony on the gaming map and started an entirely new genre. Most of the games released for the PS 2 and the original Xbox in subsequent years had Tomb Raider to thank for even existing. Tomb Raider was the reason that many people, like myself, started playing video games. Sadly, the gaming market has abandoned the action/adventure genre and focused on first-person shooters, puzzle games and downloadable casual-gamer crap.
