I still reckon that on a track the GTR would win, even if you spent another $45k on the STi. Think about all the aerodynamics work the GTR has had put into it. You simply can't do that yourself for $45k. Doesn't matter how much power you put in the STi, it's got to be able to corner properly too. Not to mention, the STi/WRX are damn common and are butt ugly too...

I suggest you go and check some lap times. Tsukuba is fairly easy to find times for. There is a bunch of WRX faster then a standard GTR.

But once you start putting money into the GTR too the WRX probably doesnt have much chance.

I just did - on a website called fastestlaps. The fastest WRX - the STi, tested in '05 produced a time of 1:04:72. The GTR did it in 1:01.94. The Amuse GTR did it in 0:59.61 and from what I could see in the video (with Japanese commentary), the mods looked like they were limited to a retuned ECU (with stock turbos), exhaust, suspension and possibly tyres (not slick, probably semi-slicks). That is DAMN impressive for a fairly close to stock car!

Either way, both are pretty damn quick cars. Having said that, I just found a video of a WRX around Tsukuba and it did an 0:58.534, but I have no idea how much cash it had spent on it. Considering it's the WRX record (or so it claimed), I'd say just a little more than $45k :p I guess the question is: dollar for dollar, which is quicker? I'm still betting the GTR, but in Australia you're talking about a $100k difference... you can do a lot with $100k on a WRX :)

My friend has a 05 sti making 500whp on a base tune only pushing 20psi on pump gas...He spent no more then 20k on the modifications with that alone it would beat a gtr and with it on its non-break in tune it will be making upwards of 700whp. The gtr is a amazing performance car but let's be realistic here and give credit where credit is deserved.

A stock GT-R runs around 11.4 in the 1/4 mile (at least they are here in the CZ) ... a STI with a bolt-on GT35r (and a good driver) will give it a run for its money. GT-Rs are sexy, though.

Theres no synchros for 1st gear in an STI (idk about a GTR) so to get a good launch typically you have to slip out the clutch a bit. And if your putting power down your gonna burn it up. So a little 10mph roll helps alleviate some damage. Maybe they had an agreement?
