  • I was a little squirt at the age of 9 when I first played Irenicus Dungeon. With no understanding of English or what was going on in general, I made it my life goal to get out of that trap infected place. It would take me two years before I got back to the challenge, but when I did beat it, this music truly sounded like Heaven.

  • FUCK I GOTTA SAVE AERIE FROM THE CIRCUS TENT

  • There you meet Aerie <3

  • 12 years back, when I came out of the prison of Athkatla and saw Waukeen's promenade for the first time = undescribable memories !

  • You point, I punch!

  • Stand away citizen!

  • For the glory of Amn!

  • @kecona "Cites are always teething with evil and decay, lets give it a good kick and see what falls out!!"

  • Ribald Barterman at your service!

  • "So I kicked him in the head till he was dead, haha" woops... wrong game...

  • Stay away, citizen!

  • @nicktrevizani1 Stand away, citizen!

  • makes you want to be in this world

although i propbly would dislike getting sucked my brains out or killed by a dragon

  • That's the song why I used to love the game so much.

  • Man, I just rememberd! Had just returned from killing a dragon, full of newly gained ex., looking to spend some hard earned gold on beer and that sword.

  • @sobus24 Yeah! I used to quicksave and kill everything that moved, blasting spells, then reload

  • "Step right up, STEP RIIIGHT UP!"

"The Adventurer's Mart is the finest shopping in all of Faerun. Widest selection, lowest prices, and nary a fancy illustration, just the goods, fair and plain"

  • " you must gather your party before venturing forth"

  • @cheebalover oh lord was that painful!

  • I loved it when I found out that sometime after the events of BG2, Waukeen was discovered to be still alive, just as her followers claimed. During the Time of Troubles, she was imprisoned by the demon prince Graz'zt, to remain trapped until someone rescued her (I forget who).

Anyway, it feels like you get back at those people in the game who call the priests stupid for continuing to have faith in her.

  • This just reminds me of selling all my shit to that dude in the promenade. Can't remember his name but he ran the adventurers mart...

  • @rlilewis

Ribald Barterman was at your service. He wanted just the goods, fair and plain.

  • This is one of my favorite song from BG2.

  • so much memories and stuff was going around Waukeen's Promenade...

  • The music throughout BG2 (and BG1) is memorable. The composer must have enjoyed himself making these tunes. Full of depth, feeling, mystery. These games are just so good.

  • And, as Shadows of Amn is settled in an imaginary region corrisponding to the Medieval Middle East, I must say they succeeded in portraiting the magic, the vitality that this region still has and certanly had in the medieval times.

I've recently been in Istanbul, and the palaces style, the music, the feeling in the streets and in the bazaars reminded me of Bg II.

I truly think it would be difficult to make a game better than this one...

  • You're funny.

  • Ah yes. Going to that Supermerchant in the Waukeen's promenade. You couldn't steal from him though, he had loads of guards in his store.

  • this was such a refreshing noise:) after being in the dungeon for over an hour.

  • @kecona

in the dungeon for only a hour? OMG, i was there much much longer :(

  • @alemomela an hour is excessive...

  • @alemomela

Me too. xD I can play through it fast, but I prefer to take my time :)

  • @SzamanHunter

Why music is a bad example? It clearly shows how something simply bad can be perceived as the greatest achievement ever.

Same goes for movies - 'Fight Club' is beloved by milions of people while it is really simple and unoriginal movie. 'Taxi Driver' is thousands time better in every way, yet it was not promoted so much therefore it is not as popular.

Still, there's no connection between the fact that YOU enjoyed the game and finished it 30 times and the fact it's popular.

  • @3v11 Agree. Fight Club is overrated.

  • @3v11 fight club and taxi driver are both excellent movies, usually loved by the exact same types of people. In fact, Fight Club was a flop, it did horribly at the theatres.

  • lrn2english

Only because something is most popular, it does not mean it's the best.

It can be easily seen with the example of musicians.

And I don't see how the fact that you have finished BG over 30 times can be connected to the fact that it's "popular".

  • and that comment was dirceted to SzamanHunter's last post.

  • I loved Planescape : Torment too but the two BGs are my favourites of all time. P : T is definitely in there in the mix, and the two IWDs aren't far behind at all. P : T is PROFOUND. There is no deeper storyline in any game I've played. But ALL the IE games had great depth. I wouldn't describe the BGs as "popular". They're still nowhere near as popular as FPS games, for example. The IE games were, collectively, the best of all time IMO. The BGs were my favourites but it's a close call.

  • Somebody obviously has never played Planescape: Torment.

  • Torment was good, but it is not as good as Baldur's Gate in either scope or concept.

  • I played all Bioware's cRPGs and I'm pretty sure P:T > Any other game.

But it's a matter of taste I guess, so it's pretty subjective thing.

Torment had much better story (in fact, the best story in computer games ever made IMO) and music.

BG had much longer gameplay, but it's story was quite simple and predictable. Fights were more interesting and played more important role in BG, but it's quite obvious as P:T did not foucs on this aspect of cRPGs.

NPCs in both games were simply awesome.

  • The Story of Torment has been done time and time again. This isn't to say it wasn't a good one, or that it was a fresh approach, but the story of a hero who has lost his memory and then searches to find his identity is something that we've seen many many times.

Baldur's Gate's sheer breadth was enough to make it more epic in terms of story. It starts with you as a young level one innocent of the world, and ends by taking you to the seat of divinity.

Either way, they're both great games.

  • You know, same thing can be said about BG. You start as no one and later on save the princes/kill the dragon/save the world/become the most powerful dude ever.

In P:T lost of memory is not so important factor. The concept of immortality, the story, mystery - that's what truly awesome.

But like I mentioned - it's subjective thing I guess, so there's no point in arguing.

  • Always walked through the promenade, talking to the random people just pretending to do the weekly shopping.

  • I really love this song, but it's so short !

  • sounds arabian, like Aladin.

  • Always loved this song, always will.
