there is no way this guy is a black belt in judo, he misses a drop seoi nage with the the other guy leaning over begging for it. But both styles are great and as far as wich one is better it really does not matter as long as your learning respect for your teacher, your fellow students, your school, and the people around you, keep rolling, keep throwing, keep learning. There is only one style your own.
Brazil vs Japan jiu-jitsu 2004 - Leo Viera vs Shinsuke Fukuzumi answers all the questions TOP LEVEL BRAZILIAN JIU_ JITSU VS TOP LEVEL JUDO PRACTIONERS. but that doesnt mean bjj is better than judo it just means that depending on practioner and skill and time put int o the art either side could defeat the other in this case BJJ came out on top and in a VERY BIG WAY....... So many people have a confusion of brazilian jiu jitsu and sport jiu jitsu. Many people comment on this video saying bjj doesn´t work for self defense, that judo or wrestling is needed to compliment it, that´s because they are talking about a bunch of bad american jitz schools that include no self defense in their programs because winning tournaments gets them more clients. I train bjj in south america and we learn tons of self defense, knife fighting, club fighting etc to advance in rank.
@gringoroll I train BJJ in America under a Brazilian national champ and our guys can fuck people up if nessecary. People saying it doesnt work are wroooooong. I watched my buddy get blind sided and tackled at a party and within about 20 seconds the guy who blind sided him who was also much bigger was in an armbar with his arm just popping and cracking.
that's not a bjj blue belt, it's a white belt wearing a blue belt. By that level, he should have at least known how to apply pressure with his hips etc.
I'm not sure why there is so much arguing over Judo vs BJJ vs Sambo. . .as I understand it, sambo and BJJ are BOTH descended from Judo (The Gracies were students of one of Jigeru Kano's instructors, and Sambo was started by a student of Kano) and all 3 are descended from traditional Jiu Jitsu.
Thats the worts Judo fighter I have ever seen,m even I would have better tecnique. He should stay more straigth and none does the turtle, it is much better and more normal to lay down on your stamach!!!
I'm a 3rd dan taekwondo black belt, a professor formado in capoeira (blue green and yellow rope), blue and white belt in Yoseikan budo, karate black belt from five different schools, and a konoha ninja.
I'm 20 years old, and i became all that in 2 weeks, only clicking with my finger for half an hour, and waiting for the belts to arrive from shipment
Judo is one of the best self-defense systems which ever were created. One Judo throw ends every fight on the streets as in reality the floor is hard. Judo ippons are reality-based and every Judoka can be happy to have such great rules in tournaments wich also help to improve self-defense skills (e.g. never to loose balance). Judo should learn from BJJ the importance of good marketing strategies.
@01Proust Judo should also learn to innovate with rules instead of just prohibiting stuff as the years pass. Judo once allowed spinal locks, shoulder locks, and ankle locks (they don't allow them anymore). They recently disallowed any technique innitiated with the hands below the waist (two hand takedown, crude fireman carry's ect) in order to focus on the throws that make Judo.
It's my understanding that BJJ never implemented such restrictions.
@JohnnyV83 Actually to my knowledge there hasn't been any techniques taken out of judo since the 80's. All those leg grab techniques are still allowed, they just altered the rules to prevent people from stalling with them. Which was becoming a really annoying problem in competition. And in fact many BJJ schools don't allow certain more dangerous leg locks (ie. heel hook) at all or possible until brown belt level. BJJ is more school to school though from what I've gathered.
Judo is very useful, but you need to know how to do the throws without Gi, the ground game is almost the same as bjj. Learning all 3 of them will make a very complete grappler. Sambo is also very good for grappling.
man, judo black belt vs bjj BLUE belt, its like, an expert in judo's techniques agains an newbie in bjj, if the black belt loses to a begginer, he has to burn his belt, but anyways, its always amazing when you can see both sides showing their techniques. I'm a bjj blue belt, and i really appreciate both styles of ground fight, the most usefull and popular, Congrats
@alanwillians93 Not exactly, belt systems are different. Judoka's become black belts at about the same time a BJJ or JJ practitioner gets his blue belt.
If you look at history the greatest bjj and judo test fight was in japan cuz they were trying to decide what to teach the police and judo won 90.percent of the fights
Allways these judo vs bjj things. Stupid to compare these sports. In judo you train usually much more throwing, than in bjj, and average judoka can throw an average bjj player Very easily. However average bjj player is usually slightly better in ground, because he trains it much more. In Brazil judokas and jujutsukas train often together, afterall judo is jujutsu, and jujutsu is judo. But I am judoka and I like more judo because it is much more fun to throw, than be on the ground all the time:)
so whats ur point if there the same wheres ur fucking argument. ur just saying that there the same disciplines and that makes no sense and also unless youve been actually training for at least three years u should keep youre idiotic opinions to yourself.......dumbass
@jmiles49, do research. Judo and BJJ both came from different disciplines of traditional Jiu Jitsu with different focuses. Judo focused more on sumi waza while bjj or as it was originally called, Fusen Ryu focused on ne-waza. Ne-waza or ground attack vs sumi waza or stand attack.
@19thaman79 "Judo focused more on sumi waza while bjj or as it was originally called, Fusen Ryu focused on ne-waza"
No. Maeda was a Kosen Judo player. He taught that Judo to the Gracies. The term "Judo" had basically not been invented yet so they called it Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The confusion about Fusen Ryu seems to come from the match between those Jujutsukas and Kodokan Judokas which was just one piece of the puzzle that lead to Judo as it existed in the early 1900s.
@tuwkulyou that's not right, yoshida against diaz brother or jake shields would lose, and for more information try to watch yan cabral vs sakuraba, pro wrestling vs bjj...
I'm a fan of both Judo and BJJ...I like to watch Judo matches for the throws and I enjoy watching BJJ matches obviously for the groundwork. But I absolutely hate it when people disrespect Judo by claiming a judo black belt losing to a very novice blue belt. I see this all the time. BJJ IS NOT BETTER THAN JUDO. They are the SAME art with a different focus. BJJ would not exist if it wasn't for judo. Helio Gracie didn't invent a new art he just sucked at judo throws. Don't forget he lost to Kimura
@jmiles49 "They are the SAME art with a different focus"
Or in other words, they're different arts. You can ramble on all day about how Judo "contains" and invented all the same moves used in BJJ, but can Judokas use them? In general, they suck big balls at ground fighting in comparison. But do you ever BJJ guys talking about how they have all the same throws as a Judoka? No. Same exact case. In fact, BJJ guys probably spend more time drilling throws then Judokas do on their backs.
@jmiles49 Nage waza of Judo is much better than BJJ´s nage waza. Even newaza of Judo is better for self-defense than BJJ as in Judo groundwork more power and more speed are used. In reality on the hard pavement, a Judo throw ends a fight within seconds. The only problem is that Judo is about fighting and not about marketing. BJJ is great as far as marketing is concerned.
@Fuseddd232 If you like BJJ Kosen Judo is great for you. Kosen Judo is a great sport for men who lack the power for nage waza based Judo. He who knows Judo doesn´t need to train wrestling for self-defense as Judo is a very powerful system. He who trains BJJ and wants to survive in reality has to add either Wrestling or Judo or Sambo as all these three styles promote a great balance and power. A BJJ fighter who ony trains BJJ should avoid being attacked on the street and only do MMA!!!!
@Fuseddd232 Do these men only train BJJ or do they add Wrestling, Sambo or Judo so that they can keep their balance?? Do you know that Helio Gracie had learned Judo before he had created his own funny sport?? Just check out the Gracie home page which explains WHY Helio Gracie modified Judo. According to the home page he just was "too frail" for Judo. Kano Jigoro focused on nage waza because this makes a man powerful and balanced. Perfect balance is indespensable for self-defense.
@01Proust hmm, from my understanding bjj depending on the style, you know different gyms have different styles. balance themselves. They create a form of bjj that is balanced and a stand alone ground game.
@KovarD Look up Koji Komuro. He used to enter BJJ contests as the official kodokan represenative and win against black belts. People like him usually earn "honorary" bjj black belts because it is difficult for the bjj community to accept defeat by outsiders. I am a brown belt in judo and have tapped bjj purples on occasion but that doesn't mean I have purple belt skill or knowledge by the way so maybe this helps answer your question.
@KovarD Because black belt Judoka don't know the same submissions move as a Blue belt Bjj. Bjj blue belt don't know any takedown besides trip, hip throw and double / singhle leg takedown while blue belt judoka know more than those.
Yeah not that impressive for a black belt not good but on the other hand I am supprised the blue belt tried 2 stick his hooks in with the lack of control he had over the judo guy, Bjj still my favourite done both now and there is no comparison
I dont know why everybody argument about wich is better Judo or BJJ, theres no style better than the other and belts dont really tells practicioners hability or heart, instead of argument about wich is better combine both. The Ground game of Brazilian JiuJitsu and the deadly throws from Judo mixed together will make anybody a very skilled grappler. Even More if both are combined with Grego Roman Wrestling.
@JiiV3e thats right, i agree with you. Thats why I train, kung fu sil lum, muay thai, taekwondo, savate and boxing ( my original background). For grappling, Judo, BJJ and wrestling. after I dominate Wushu Sil Lum I wanna learn Shotokan Karate and Hapkido. Then I'll look for other challenging styles. I voted up 2 ur comment
@fitnessboyPR Hmm, just a piece of advice : If you want to try Karate, DON'T CHOOSE shotokan style ! It's the worst in real fighting ! Shorin ryu or Kyokushin in far better!
@fitnessboyPR No problem, a friend of mine is a black belt in shorin ryu, and he always win when we fight. (I do muay thai and sambo, and he's smaller and lighter than me). So he told me a bit about karate ;)
@shibuyagto I once fought a Shinto Ryu Karate guy we agree with no ground fighting, and it was hard to beat him. I dont have a style I would say my style is a combination of boxing, muay thai, taekwondo (WTF), kung fu sil lum, Savate, judo, BJJ and krav maga. I wanna learn Karate Kyokushin, Hapkido, Tai Chi and Sambo later to have a bigger arsenal.
@fitnessboyPR Try to fully master one of all these fighting styles. It's really good to know a lot of different styles (i want to learn krav maga too) but too much styles will be a bit hard to master and combinate. Whatever, i really hope to see you someday in a MMA of muay thai tournament :).
@shibuyagto I mastered boxing wich is my original background, taekwondo ( 2 degrre black belt) and Muay Thai and then got my self defense instructor certification. Im working on master Judo and Kung Fu and the other styles I train them but only use the best part of them.
Good news for you are that Krav Maga is easy to learn because it involves simple effective movements to end the confrontation as fast as possible. Its more effective if u have a previous background
@fitnessboyPR ground game of bjj is derived from the fundamentals of judo. U can't compare arts like thai boxing and bjj or boxing and judo because they teach completely different things. but when it comes to judo and BJJ you may as well do the more complete art (judo or traditional ju jitsu) and mix it with muay thai.. BJJ is good but if u have the choice, do judo and ask to focus on the newaza if you want to, that way you have a much better stand up game as well as ground.
not really. ur sorta right. i can agree but when it comes down to it in a gi grappling tournament unless u get a flying submission all these matches will go to the ground. people misunderstand that judo is meant to take your opponent to the ground. at judo tournaments as long as u sweep ur opponent and make him land on his back u will win even if u land in a position to get choked or submitted.bjj focuses on finishing dominating your opponent at ground level so in the sport of grappling Bjj #1
@Best69Giver yea judo is awesome but they really watered it down with sport rules and the lack of finishes thats like playing basketball and only dribbling while never learning how to shoot the ball
@danjack17 no. Do bjj for ground game, and judo for standing with the GI. Wrestling for standing for No-GI. Trust me, a bjj guy who is decent and is taught at a decent gym will smash a decent judoka taught at a decent gym because the ground game is pretty much all of bjj. Look at the top BJJ competitors. Their bjj will shit on a judokas. You can't send a judoka to the worlds. Pfft. Unless he takes the guy down and stalls, which is highly unlikely as pulling guard isWAYeasierthantakingsomeone own
Completely depends on the gym and the fighter. I train in Judo and Jujitsu and we get to focus on whatever we want to focus on unless we need certain kata done for our gradings. I enjoy the ground aspect of Judo and do as much of it as possible.. BJJ guys are obviously good on the ground but thats what they do, however, guarantee if you're at a good school and u show interest in it, your sensei will teach you.
@fitnessboyPR I disagree, I do believe some arts are better than others. However I agree that a combination is the best, as far as ground fighting goes, I do BJJ and did freestyle wrestling for a couple months at my school, my father also taught me a little bit of Japanese Jujitsu, I plan to hopefully start Judo soon. After just a month or so of wrestling, my BJJ game became way better, I do recomend mixing styles.
blue belt in bjj vs black belt in judo... hmmm... it seems every judo vs bjj video i see has something to do with noobs vs black belts in the non-bjj sport... ugh... get over yourselves
A judo black belt???with that posture? His posture was terrible as far as judo is concerned you sould be standing straight up when gripping he looked more like a pure bjj guy .if you gonna bend at least use a wrestler stagger stance for more base his stance was god awful
@jaffar1808 my guess would be that he dosent want the BJJ guy to pull guard. Im a white belt in BJJ, and i recently started doing judo at my college. My first day they told me to stop using guard because we were practicing side control and i kept escaping to guard.
@jaffar1808 the move he did at 1:41 is judo... and his back patch seemed like he rep'd his country... thought the seoinage at the start seemed faily odd
Disapointing video. All I saw was a dude giving him back over and over and the other not being able to break the turtle guard. Can't even see the end.
there is no way this guy is a black belt in judo, he misses a drop seoi nage with the the other guy leaning over begging for it.

@fitnessboyPR When you have a kid, put your kid to Jduo and BJJ and make him compete in both sport medals are qurantied!
But BJJ and Judo only at MMA will not work, need also striking unless you are Shinya Aoki
JiiV3e 5 months ago
@JiiV3e thats right, i agree with you. Thats why I train, kung fu sil lum, muay thai, taekwondo, savate and boxing ( my original background). For grappling, Judo, BJJ and wrestling. after I dominate Wushu Sil Lum I wanna learn Shotokan Karate and Hapkido. Then I'll look for other challenging styles. I voted up 2 ur comment

@fitnessboyPR So when is your first mma fight?
Klootjee 5 months ago
@Klootjee I already have fought mma, my record is 7-0 5 by KO and 2 by submission
fitnessboyPR 5 months ago
@fitnessboyPR Hmm, just a piece of advice : If you want to try Karate, DON'T CHOOSE shotokan style ! It's the worst in real fighting ! Shorin ryu or Kyokushin in far better!
shibuyagto 5 months ago
@shibuyagto Thanx for the advise, I did my research and Im going to do Kyokushin. Thanx Alot
fitnessboyPR 5 months ago
@fitnessboyPR No problem, a friend of mine is a black belt in shorin ryu, and he always win when we fight. (I do muay thai and sambo, and he's smaller and lighter than me). So he told me a bit about karate ;)
shibuyagto 5 months ago
@shibuyagto I once fought a Shinto Ryu Karate guy we agree with no ground fighting, and it was hard to beat him. I dont have a style I would say my style is a combination of boxing, muay thai, taekwondo (WTF), kung fu sil lum, Savate, judo, BJJ and krav maga. I wanna learn Karate Kyokushin, Hapkido, Tai Chi and Sambo later to have a bigger arsenal.
fitnessboyPR 5 months ago
@fitnessboyPR Try to fully master one of all these fighting styles. It's really good to know a lot of different styles (i want to learn krav maga too) but too much styles will be a bit hard to master and combinate. Whatever, i really hope to see you someday in a MMA of muay thai tournament :).
shibuyagto 5 months ago
@shibuyagto I mastered boxing wich is my original background, taekwondo ( 2 degrre black belt) and Muay Thai and then got my self defense instructor certification. Im working on master Judo and Kung Fu and the other styles I train them but only use the best part of them.
Good news for you are that Krav Maga is easy to learn because it involves simple effective movements to end the confrontation as fast as possible. Its more effective if u have a previous background

@fitnessboyPR krav maga is really close to karate.

BJJ is good but if u have the choice, do judo and ask to focus on the newaza if you want to, that way you have a much better stand up game as well as ground.
danjack17 1 month ago 5
not really. ur sorta right. i can agree but when it comes down to it in a gi grappling tournament unless u get a flying submission all these matches will go to the ground. people misunderstand that judo is meant to take your opponent to the ground. at judo tournaments as long as u sweep ur opponent and make him land on his back u will win even if u land in a position to get choked or submitted.bjj focuses on finishing dominating your opponent at ground level so in the sport of grappling Bjj #1
Best69Giver 1 day ago
@Best69Giver yea judo is awesome but they really watered it down with sport rules and the lack of finishes thats like playing basketball and only dribbling while never learning how to shoot the ball
l3054 1 day ago
@danjack17 no. Do bjj for ground game, and judo for standing with the GI. Wrestling for standing for No-GI. Trust me, a bjj guy who is decent and is taught at a decent gym will smash a decent judoka taught at a decent gym because the ground game is pretty much all of bjj. Look at the top BJJ competitors. Their bjj will shit on a judokas. You can't send a judoka to the worlds. Pfft. Unless he takes the guy down and stalls, which is highly unlikely as pulling guard isWAYeasierthantakingsomeone own
xAristaicx 11 hours ago
Completely depends on the gym and the fighter. I train in Judo and Jujitsu and we get to focus on whatever we want to focus on unless we need certain kata done for our gradings. I enjoy the ground aspect of Judo and do as much of it as possible.. BJJ guys are obviously good on the ground but thats what they do, however, guarantee if you're at a good school and u show interest in it, your sensei will teach you.

@fitnessboyPR not really a wrestler and bjj make a better grappler, judo is useless sometime
kenjimma 3 weeks ago

His posture was terrible as far as judo is concerned you sould be standing straight up when gripping he looked more like a pure bjj guy .if you gonna bend at least use a wrestler stagger stance for more base his stance was god awful
jaffar1808 9 months ago 35
@jaffar1808 my guess would be that he dosent want the BJJ guy to pull guard. Im a white belt in BJJ, and i recently started doing judo at my college. My first day they told me to stop using guard because we were practicing side control and i kept escaping to guard.
TheBobbaduche 4 months ago
@jaffar1808 the move he did at 1:41 is judo... and his back patch seemed like he rep'd his country... thought the seoinage at the start seemed faily odd

Disapointing video. All I saw was a dude giving him back over and over and the other not being able to break the turtle guard. Can't even see the end.
