  • I just spotted your Swift Boat PCF-15 Danang Vietnam 1966 video on youtube.

I was there. PCF-16 - Ltjg Louk, BM2 Hogue, GMG3 Stewart, EN3 Larkin (me), RMSN Schrader, SN Carter.

I have a lot of 35mm slides, but no video...

    Jerry Larkin, Snipe, "16 boat"

  • My dad Eddie Vertrees served on the USS SKAGIT And USS RENVILLE during the war he drove Mike boats to supply the Marines...he had some Great and pretty scary stories of the trips up the rivers.

  • Good to hear from you Mark. This was just a test post. In the next few months hope to post much of the good parts of about 2 hours of video I had on Super 8 camera. Too bad I didn't have sound but I guess I'm lucky to have the video. Have been in regular touch with Engineman Monty in Washington. Also in touch with John Loucks who was first OIC PCF-16. We trained together.

  • My dad was enlisted Navy on PCF's and prior to that was a member of Junk Force in MACV NAV DET-SOG then Task Force 115 Market Time. He was in country 1965-1966 if I remember right and trained at Coronado with the Marines before they even had Swifts to train with.

The only name he remembers is his best friend Herb Walsh. He thought he was blown up in an ambush on the river but I looked on The Wall and his name wasn't there.

I'd like to talk with any Brown Water Navy.

The first Swift boat crews (1-20) trained at Coronado starting August 1965. First 10 went south to AnThoi in Dec and second 10 went north to Danang in Jan 1966. All went to Subic Bay for a couple months being transferred to Vietnam.

  • Enjoyed the video. I was on PCF-16 and 69 in Da Nang from August 68 to August 69.

I rode the 15 boat toward the end of my tour because they lost some folks (wia) to a B40 rocket in the Cua Dai river.
