i just tied the diamond knot but with 8 strands it turned out great i then added some fender hitches and then a 8 strand japan knot beautiful. its for a walking stick i am carving. i have also added 2 7X5 turks heads on the staff it looks great thank for the help
Oh, thanks. Here I was, thinking it would be nice to have both a button knot and a diamond knot on a knife lanyard I was making, even trying to thread the whole knife through the knot 'til it reached the noose part (without much success) :P
The single running end method of creating the button knot was the original way of making Chinese buttons. The goal being to make flat buttons, one after another, along a single length of string or rope. So the answer to your question is yes, and when you do, history will be in your hands.

What's the difference between this and the diamond knot?
sevendays00 1 year ago
@sevendays00 - The difference: The way its tied and its name. This said: The knot, once completed, is effectively the same as a Diamond Knot.

F**k! This is hard!

This is hard? Try the monkefist or the turk's head knot.

very nice lanyard knot... just wish I could figure out how to tie it with the "noose" already attached...

It's called the Diamond Knot when tied that way. See the attached Video Respoce. In it I show how to tie the knot off a bight.

Can you tie a button lanyard knot with one end of the cord attached, just using the other end.

Once again, outstanding work. Thanks for sharing.
It's your fault that I've become a knothead.
