@magas263 I dont remember the exact price but it had maxed out specs so around $5,000 but now you can get it for alot less on ebay maybe close to $1,000.

This was the last gaming laptop made by xps so its not around anymore you can only get used ones

@xXROYALxLIONXxTSMS The only overclocking I did on my m1730 was for the cpu through the bios....the graphics cards just broke on their own. One had a fan that stopped working then another one burned up and then another one had very bad picture quality that couldnt be fixed so I got upgraded to alienware since my dell tech guy didnt want to keep coming back to my house every week.

@breakablecookie i think that the broken fan built up the heat because heat syncs can give out heat if the one of the fans is broken plus the overclocking above 2.8 has to make all fans run constantly. i might get a m1730 fro a good deal but im not sure if it has warranty. the person says that it does. btw how did u get dual 5870' s in ur m17x? isnt there the dual 5850's? or something like that?

@xXROYALxLIONXxTSMS I didnt play games on the system when the fan stopped working so I wouldnt burn the card. I called dell and when you have a broken fan on the graphics card they cant just put a new fan on they have to replace the entire card.

As for the m17x it is twin 5870's you can check on the alienware website. I dont thing 5850's were a choice but when I got upgraded to the m17x they gave me maxed out specs because when I got my m1730 I had it with maxed out specs.

New Update!!! Had the motherboard, graphics cards and heat sinks replaced twice within 1 week on my m1730 and dell decided that i was to be upgraded to the new Alienware m17x with equal or better specs!!! I will post a video of the new m17x when it arrives at my house! :D

UPDATE!!! I just recently had dell put in a brand new 9800m gtx card in my laptop because the original card broke this thing is twice as powerfull now! 2GB of memory instead of 1 :D

I was just going to say that having 9800 GT's or even 260/280GTX cards instead of dual 8800 GTX's in SLi wnt make any difference unless you're running 4 cores or more. Yeah it's got more power theoretically but realistically your CPU would be bottlenecking them slightly. Either way this machine packs a punch, still a fantastic performer. I've heard of guys with theirs that burnt out and Dell couldn't replace the parts so they got new 'Alienware' M17X laptops for no charge... Damn lucky people D:

@BallinTillDeath69 hahaha yeah i have heard about that happening some people with the 8800m gtx cards that burned out got m17x's as a replacement because dell had no 8800m cards left to put back into the m1730. I'm hoping mine will break so i can get an m17x for free but so far this computer has been solid as a rock so i cant complain too much :P

Just wondering, does you GPU cooling fans make a hissing noise when running. And when you're play games, do you get a clicking noise coming from the GPU that's proportionate to frame rates when doing heavy gaming?

the only noise i have coming from the graphics card is the wooshing sound when the fans are on i dont have any clicking sounds you should call dell and get that checked out it shouldnt do that

im not a dell fan by any means but i recently got one of these for free and im pretty impressed so far. gets hot though. im currently tweeking the fan settings and what not. just waiting on my ram to come in. i dont have the light dancing thing you got though.

it does get hot but then again its a desktop replacement so its expected to be hot. As for the lights they are an option in Dell Quick Set

It is actually a dvi to hdmi cable. I ordered it with the laptop on the dell website. It came with more than just that wire it also came with an adaptor that turns dvi to vga and a bunch of s-video conections

Wow. Amazing. How much would you say it weighs? and I heard the battery drains after an hour and the laptop gets hot fast too, is that true? Dose it have dedicated mouse button to activate the finger mouse?

it weighs about 8lbs. You can easily carry it around but it is bulky. yeah the battery drains fast but what do you expect from a big laptop with 2 hard drives, 2 graphics cards, and a really powerfull processor?. What do you mean by dedicated mouse button?

oh no it doesnt have that but the trackpad on this laptop is exceptional!!! its very responsive and acurate and I havent had any problems with accidentally brushing it with my hands while typing and accidentally moving the mouse because of that

no you cannot overclock the 2.4ghz but I have not seen a really big improvement from 2.8 to 3.4 in terms of gaming so it shouldnt matter too much anyway. 2.4 is more than enough

so far I have had no overheating problems. If your playing a really graphics intensive game I would sugjest raising the computer up on all 4 sides for better air flow but the 3 big fans work great and have never needed to turn on full speed even for crysis

Sadly I have received mine, and it rocks, literally, the chassis is twisted from manufacture, and the GPU's have an overheating issue.

send it back to them immediately and have them give you a new one something must have happened during the shipping that twisted it because the frame is made of metal so its really hard to do. What GPU's did you get? I have twin 9800m gt cards and they have yet to overheat. Try raising the laptop up from the bottom by something on all four corners to give it better ventilation

yeah i think its one of the nicest looking laptops out there. I wish they just upgraded the processor and ram and gpu's to keep up with the new laptops instead of just getting rid of it. but the new alienware m17x is a real monster!
