She turned from the Queen of Ska to the Queen of Slut Pop by releasing what I would call as one of the worst songs in my life for its stupidity and extreme radio airplay and it's none other than Hollaback Girl. Yep, you read it right. Hollaback Girl made her the Queen of Slut Pop and further popularized the genre itself despite the fact it was already popular.
I like certain radio stations, but hit radio is just an outlet for corporate creeps to churn out songs that they know people will listen to, b/c 'it's on hit radio, so it must be good!', then it gets promoted even more, and no one really cares about artistic merit, just catchy lyrics and sound, not to mention gimmicks and looks. They can make people listen to anything, and they're definitely proving it, I'll give them that much!
I never understood the appeal of her songs, they're not that impressive at all. Her song "I kissed a girl" or whatever, was the first time I remember hearing a lesbian/bi-curious song on the radio. I didn't like it that much, but I think b/c it was sort of unique to hit radio, I guess it was popular. Other than that, the rest of her 'music' is boring. Less than a year after that, I stopped tuning in to hit radio stations--not that I tuned in that often in the first place.

I never understood the appeal of her songs, they're not that impressive at all. Her song "I kissed a girl" or whatever, was the first time I remember hearing a lesbian/bi-curious song on the radio. I didn't like it that much, but I think b/c it was sort of unique to hit radio, I guess it was popular. Other than that, the rest of her 'music' is boring. Less than a year after that, I stopped tuning in to hit radio stations--not that I tuned in that often in the first place.

The first slutwave song I remembered hearing was Christina Aguilera's Dirrty (although Wannabe by the Spice Girls are released earlier, I didn't remember the song until my school overplayed it in 2005. I thought the song was made by Disney when I listened to it at first). And no, I Kissed A Girl didn't made slutwave enter the hit charts. It was Gwen Stefani's song Hollaback Girl that made slutwave enter the charts.

@hidalgo699 Yep. They made slutwave even worse by starting a third wave of it. If you think either "This s**t is bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S!" or "Under my umbrella ella ella eh eh eh" was THAT bad during the second wave of slutwave, you will regret it if you listen to some songs under the third wave of slutwave. WTF is "Just Dance" and "I Kissed A Girl" anyway? I think two songs are the first catalysts to the third wave of slutwave (or should I say the fourth wave of crappy music thanks to boybands?)
