I'm saying that one persons company would eventually expand and grow so much that it would own 80 percent of irelands business. worst case scenario, this person is a tyrant and has us all working in sweat shops for 10 cent and hour.
@homer091 That's just paranoia, an intellectually facile way of puttng obstacles in the way, competition would stop that from happening anyway, do you think one tyrant would even be capable of going against every employees wishes. It wouldn't be in his interests. It's hard enough getting people on the dole off of it to work.
@homer091 I know, didn't last did it? and eventually ended up being very bad for business and made unions stronger and less likely to be broken. Now they are just bought out withing capitalist democracy.
There's a reason that laws are put in place to stop employers and business owners doing whatever they want. Those laws are for the good of the people and have been around long before the boom. It is unbelievably naive for you to think that companies wouldn't exploit Ireland for cheap labor. The same ass holes who are fucking up the world now are still going to exist in a minarchist society.
Barely. It's anarchism for pacifists and when all the major gangs and mafias make it there headquaters because of the unregulated sex and drug trades you'll see the peace go right out the window. Just look at the drug war in Mexico.
So when you elect the next set of gombeens and you're unhappy with them, what then? The problem is we've been fooled into thinking that marking an X beside someone's name every 4 years is actual and genuine "choice" or "change" and acts as enough personal responsibility to run a society. Democracy is dead, time to look at other options to the establishment.
This is the true change that needs to happen. Stand up for yourself, stop looking for personalities to lead your country and yourselves.
@homer091 Minarchism, we're a small country, we don't need a gigantic leviathan government that employs half the workforce indirectly. If democracy -which doesn't actually exist or work in the majority of western countries, certainly not our own, because of a rich elite with the politicians in their back pocket- is all anyone has been educated to know, how can they criticise and say an alternative can't work?
Minarchism would never pass. Basically all the people who are unemployed now would be taken off the dole. Crime sky rockets. Police state. Revolution. Back to square one.
@homer091 You don't automatically change a political system overnight, it takes at least 2-3 generations for a new one to take hold, have you not studied history? You don't think that "democracy" was freshly delivered early on a Monday morning? Your attitude is typical of a calcified belief in no alternatives, you continually put obstacles in the way of any new ideas. I'm not saying Minarchism is the right way but we need to try something else cos democracy has gotten us nowhere, it doesn't suit
There's just no way it would be sustainable. My mind floods with reason why it wouldn't work whenever I think about it. By privatising everything a monopoly will eventually own the country. There'll be no system in place to help the desperate. The sex and drug trades will blow up. Hundreds of thousands if not millions will immigrate. Private schooling and healthcare. It's completely regressive and it's the perfect environment for the likes of Brian Cowen. Undiluted capitalism.
If you think we need a revolution, please start one. Failing that, this looks great. I know the opposition doesn't look too attractive but they cannot be worse. We NEED change, for our spirits, for our hope of any prospect of staying in this country without feeling disgusted with ourselves and resentful of everyone else.
@jack6224 Yes Jack, 12 noon on Saturday on Patrick's Street, near the Father Matthew statue. The taxi drivers seem to be on board so should be plenty of noise!
A general Election is the First Step in correctiong the corruption and injustice that has ruined this country. A fresh mandate for a new government will help the stability of the coutry and the economy, we are in Limbo now.
Everyone is wondering will the newest scandal bring forward the election, and these are getting more frequent/
Ireland needs a social & political REVOLUTION...! An election will change nothing, FG & Labour will only deliver the same Neo-Liberal Imposed austerity that FF have because they will also be subservient to the 'Markets' and the International Money Masters...
I understand people's anger and enthusiasm to do something, but an election which will deliver a right-wing pro market, pro capitalist, neo-liberal coalition of Labour/FG will sadly change nothing...
A good follow-on protest, on financial reform, to this one is taking place at 2.00pm outside Anglo-Irish Bank, Stephen's Green, organised by Labour Youth and PES Activists. Would be great if anyone attending this protest could make it along.

Thats called anarchism. Countries that practice anarchism; Chad, Somalia and a handful of other shitty, war torn, African countries.

@homer091 are you saying a monopoly "doesn't" own the country?, a monopoly that gives you less power to change it.
